And calling people peasants because they are not interested in getting a $1200+ dollar rig and calling a console useless is useless trolling. I am free to call the Xbox useless, it's my opinion and I have stated very clearly why. You "refuted" by using gamepass shovelware as an argument and the complete subjectivity of the superiority controller which can't be backed up in any kind of way.

Yup! I have a PC that I occasionally game on, but as someone that likes to play competitively and never got used to m&kb, Xbox is my go to. Just like this generation.

- PlayStation 5 for exclusives and the occasional 3rd party with some PS only friends.
- Xbox Series X for everything else. (1st/3rd party)
 
If i was still console gaming, its def what i would do. PS5 for first party, and the odd time a multiplatform game is better there (it will happen), and XSX for 3rd party, and Gamepass which would also cover Xbox first party.
A very nice combo imo, with all bases covered.
 
Maybe we´ll see many ties or marginal difference for SeriesX in many 3rd party games.

Marginal difference means nothing to me. Just for digital foundry and their 800% zoom.

OneX are much more powerfull than ps4 pro and in some games we see marginal difference.

Tflops difference between PS5 and XSX is a quite a bit smaller than between PS4 Pro and XOX or between original Xbox One and PS4..

PS4 1.8 - XBO 1.3 Tflops (PS 38% faster)
PS4 Pro 4.2 - XBX 6. Tflops (Xbox 43% faster)
PS5 10.2 - XSX 12 Tflops (Xbox 18% faster)

That 18% power difference could translate into games running on the XSX in 4K and the PS5 having games running in 4K CB from an 1800p image. The visual differences between third party games running on these consoles will be minimal.

I wouldn't be surprised if the biggest difference is in loading times. Same frame rates, virtually indistinguishable difference in graphics in third-party games.

For real significant differentiators you need a PC.
 
Day One for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Disc Edition. Reasons why for me below.

Xbox Series X (primary gaming console)
- Overall better console
- Multiplatform titles will look, run and play best on Xbox Series X
- First Party Exclusives
- Controller
- Game Pass
- Third Party Exclusives
- Any digital game purchases including expansions, DLC, etc. will be on Xbox Series X
- Digital Only games like The Ascent for example will be purchased only on Xbox Series X
- Multiplatform games that im not buying digitally will be purchased on disc, played, completed and traded in
- PlayStation 5 timed exclusives will be played on Xbox Series X when they eventually release for it. I don't care if it's a month, six months or a year. Prefer to let others buy and play Godfall (one of only two timed exclusive games I have interest in) and let them test out the game for me a year in advance. Waiting a year or whatever the time limit ends up being will give me all the content released between the PlayStation 5 version and the Xbox Series X version. Basically, like Rise of the Tomb Raider on PlayStation 4 where it had all the DLC content with the base game for the same $60 price tag that the base game only released at a year earlier for Xbox One. Also, good chance the timed exclusives go on Game Pass day one. A game like Kena: Bridge of Spirits (the second timed exclusive I have interest in) is most likely going to be $40 and digital only. I can easily see it being day one on Game Pass especially if sales are underwhelming on PlayStation 5. Why spend $40 when I can wait and spend $10 instead for a monthly rental?

PlayStation 5 (secondary exclusives only gaming console)
- First Party Exclusives
- No digital purchases of any kind
- All exclusives will be purchased on disc, played, completed and traded in
- Only exception to the two reasons above is if there's a full console exclusive that's digital only like Alienation was for PlayStation 4
- No timed exclusives whatsoever which I see as multiplatform games anyway

I'm definitely ready for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Let's go baby!!! Whooooo!!!

Let's be honest, hardly anybody on neogaf wants a 4 teraflop machine. Imagine how dated it's going to look 5 years from now.

The biggest issue though is that out of those 15 studios you mention, how many of them have a history of making AAA games? A lot of the ones Microsoft have bought are budget studios - Undead Labs for example, anybody expecting anything out of them? Ninja Theory? Meh. Even 343i are clearly in a mess and it seems like certain people there are getting appointed / promoted above their station. The Initiative is a new studio so no track record as an entity. Playground Games do have a track record...for racing games. Huge risk giving them Fable.

I look forward to seeing what Microsoft brings to PC, but hardly any of the potentially good games will be out for ages, and Halo will launch next year, and almost certainly in a state and requiring many further patches. For me there's just no reason to get an Xbox for even if you don't have a PC as you can play third-party games on PS5, which also looks to have strong first-party support in 2021 and beyond.

Currently have One X and Pro with Gamepass and PS+

I want my life to be simpler, considering I don't really care much for MS Exclusives besides Forza and Flight Sim 2020 is pretty darn awesome.. And Gamepass is like $16 per month here in Australia so its not worth it. I'm going PS5 only next gen.

Note: This is my opinion!
If you actually do the math PS Plus is a better service. In Australia $60 per year PS+ vs $191 per year Gamepass. The game offerings are far better on PS+ looking at the last few years and they are yours to keep forever as long as you have PS+. Even if you unsubscribe and then subscribe later, they are still on your account.

All the good games on Gamepass they take off after a few months or so. Most of gamepass is full of crap or indies that a lot of people will never play or get around to playing. It's not a sustainable service in the long term and we will never end up with a Netflix of gaming because AAA games cost too much to make and there is no profit in it for game developers.

Yes Gamepass includes MS Exclusives but I'm still yet to see the outcome of all these promises of stellar AAA games they have been promising to deliver for the last decade.

I will stick with PS5 and my PS+.. I also have a gaming PC so if I want to play Forza or a new MS IP, then I'll sign up to Gamepass for a month, no need to buy Series S or X.

Is AAA only games that cost a lot are fun or both? Cause https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-studios This list of studios has made some great games. You only play TLOU2 calibre games or something? So maybe 1-2 games a year? Nice. Inxile just released a game that has a better meta than Ghost of Tshushima so weird timing there, man.

It's fine if you personally don't care about Game Pass of XGS at this time. I prefer to own everything and I think it will be worth it at launch. I plan to finally start Forza Horizon 4 and the load times+4k 60 makes it very exciting for me. The Medium looks neat as does The Ascent, Crossfire X, etc.

If Demons Souls is launch, I am also getting PS5 at launch. I'm excited to have all my bases covered as a game fan. You do you.
 
Id say sadly ps5 for almost everything because we dont know how far they went with their playstation advantage marketing with third party games for extra content or deals

I meant The Initiative not InXile, my mistake. I haven't heard anything about InXile's new game Wastelands.

No I play about 10 games a year, but most of what's on GamePass just doesn't interest me. The fact that games can be moved off it (and the wait for big third-party games) is another downside and I don't want another subscription.

Crossfire X looks very promising at this stage, was the best looking game at the Xbox event. But I know this is a timed exclusive, so I can get it on PS5 if all my friends get it there.

My issue is there are question-marks on many of Microsoft's studios, and we won't get the answers we need for a few years yet.
 
Will buy PS5 for 1st party and its Japanese exclusives, and multi-platform games for XSX. Xbox currently doesn't have any exclusives that I want - but I do have several games that I'd like to play from Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One library.

Unfortunately I don't have powerful enough PC - so if I had very powerful PC - I would have went PS5 + PC route, perhaps.
 
I personally wouldn't get both consoles to for this reason. See if there are games you are interested in both and base your decision off of that.

PS4 Pro did everything as well, just not as good as Xbox One X. Let's wait until DF analysis before jumping to conclusions. 10.3 vs 12.15 may not be representative of the true difference, there are some architectural differences, XSX is said to have better Ray Tracing abilities
 
OP, do you see your investments as long term? Because Sony can't even commit to subpar BC for all PS4 titles. What happens when the PS6 comes out?
 
The difference between console is not much and I do not think it will matter. Having said that if you build gaming rig then you get many options in terms of fps, resolution, RT level and so on ... So if someone is really particular I think that is the way to go
 
Series x for the triad of rpg studios,forza gamepass and 3rd party games. PS5 slim for Sony exclusives.

You are comparing the wrong services there. You should be comparing Gold to PS+.

They are the same price and offer roughly the same value.

The big difference being that MS offer 4 games per month 2 XB1 and 2 Xbox 360 or OG Xbox. Also you get to keep the 360/OG games even if the subscription expires.

If you subscribe to PS+ or XBL Gold today, you don't get to access all the games that came out before it, only the ones available now and in the future. If you subscribe to Gamepass you get 200+ games no matter when your subscription starts.

You are comparing apples to pantyhose by pitting PS+ against Game Pass. It makes no sense.
 
This gen I will go PS5 and PC and I keep my One X a bit longer , I will get Series only if they really upgrade all games to 4k and HDR like they said , I want to replay Mass Effect in 4k with HDR and Asura's Wrath also !!!

No.. PS+ is more comparable to Gamepass for the reasons I mentioned. The fact that PS+ is better value makes it even worse.

I'm well aware of the differences.. I have Gamepass Ultimate because you still need GOLD to play online and for my money, it does not beat PS+ for $60 a year... I get more AAA games from PS+ then I do from Gamepass over a span of time.

As for GOLD games, 80% of them are the biggest heaps of shit compared to PS+ offerings, not even in the same league.

And by the way it's actually 100+ games not 200+ and a large portion of them are either very old previous gen games, indies or AA games that no one has even got time to consider.

Now and Game Pass are the same. (Free games through subscription)

You can frame it how you want but that's the only way to compare them.
If a person never owned a PS4 or an XB1 and they went and bought one this month they would have exactly 2 PS Games and 4 Xbox games to play. No more, no less.

If they subscribe to Gamepass or Now they have many more. Hence why they can't be compared side by side.

Im not going to argue with you about the quality of the games, but it is subjective.

Gamepass is actually 200+, since you have Ultimate I'll let you go count, but the last time I did there were 275 games available on the console version of it.

No, I don't need to waste my money to buy another console just for 3rd party games, PS5 will handle both. I only buy another console if it has games I want that I cant get on my Playstation, basically same reason I got Switch.

I have got a gaming laptop which I won't replace with a new one anytime soon.
Gotta build a PC and sell/buy PS5. Life would be so simpler if I could play shooters with a controller.

Some people prefer the elite controller and xbox to. The series x has more over head for smoother frame rates if developers do it right.

Overhead for developers you say, lets see. I don't think there's going to be a major disparity between either next gen consoles.
 
For me PS5 for 3rd party/ first party since I have friends who game mainly on PlayStation now I will probably go Gamepass on pc only for Xbox exclusives.

I find the notion of buying another console just to play the same third party games you can play on the PS5 just because it may or may not be slightly better. Absolute madness.

Well it kind of makes sense, both consoles will cover entire portfolio of games, but if you don't intend playing MS/GP titles but just 3rd party on XBX then it's pointless, PS5 will play 3rd party games just fine.

I get where you are coming from.

But I'm coming from money perspective. You end up better off with the value of PS+ games once you have had the subscription for a while because a lot of the games on Gamepass you will never play and the overall quality of those games on PS+ far exceed the overall offerings of Gamepass. This is subjective but that's why I said in my original post it is just my opinion.

I've paid $191.40 for Gamepass Ultimate in the last year, in 2 years that's $382.80. PS+ cost me $120 for the last 2 years and I'm left with a better quality list of games to play then Gamepass. I can guarantee most people have probably only played 25% of the total amount of games on Gamepass in that time, probably less.

And yes you are completely right, it's 254 Games that I counted.. I was wrong, maybe it started with 100 originally, Sorry my bad on that one.
 
I am getting xbsex day one for ms exclusives, bc, and 3rd parties, will get ps5 mid gen when there are more sony exclusives worth playing. Seems to be most sensible approach. I have got a gaming pc as well but prefer to play most games on Xbox.
