No way this would ever happen.. 499 is already a 100 increase regarding PS4 and PS4 Pro... trust me they will not mess this launch.. I'm however secretly expecting to be surprised with a 449 for the disc version.. I think this would have a tremendous mindshare effect.. Not sure if is worthy in the long therm though..

I'm betting Sony will show games coming out in the next 2 years while hyping exclusives. Like some of the exclusives they purchased. We already know the launch line up is sparse but the intention is to justify the launch price. This is the event where they show vr games and more on peripherals, I would expect

Even $499 might be questionable when you just know Microsoft would market the hell out of the fact their same price console is far more powerful.....Sony ain't that naive IMO.
I also wonder about Microsoft's 'ERP' and whether this is Phil being agile on price waiting to see which way Sony go.

See forever we've expected, and all leaks have said MS were doing, the $299/$499 SKUs and their/our assumption was Sony most likely doing what worked best for them with a single $399 model. When Sony then surprisingly announced the DE most seem to assume there has to be a $100 delta. This really complicates pricing when the DE is identical spec otherwise.
I don't know why they can't do what I suggested with the same price for both SKUs ($399 or $449) with the DE being bundled with 12 months of PS+. All depends how much Sony will be pushing the DE I guess.

I don't know but this will be their first digital only console so it seems to me to be a logical thing to bundle as an incentive. I wounder how many of those rumoured 5 million launch consoles will be the DE? 30%? 50%? more?

Gran turismo, demon souls, ratchet and clank, spiderman mm is sparse? and thats from first party only. Im assuming these games will be available at or within the 1st couple months of ps5 release, but thats what we are waiting to here next week the official lineup.

That's not a great launch lineup. At this point it's better than xbox but a race car game which will be the same as last gen but prettier, a remake with prettier graphics, the only next gen game shown by either consoles, and basically extended Dlc for a pretty but boring game (my opinion ,I hated spiderman). Most likely only MM is gonna be in 2020.

Why is Demons Souls not a next gen game just because it's a remake? It's not a remaster, it's made from the ground up using modern rendering techniques, much higher poly counts, ray tracing and leverages the super fast I/O available too. Soulsborne has a cult fanbase, this is a game that can move systems.

It's a tad annoying that Sony has always been on the backfoot this year. What I mean is, they've always waited for MS to show their cards first. It's like they knew that the Xbox had more Tflops, HD space, etc. than they had (not that that is the end all be all) and they know those are buzzwords and if MS announced console specs after them MS would control more of the narrative with the better "buzzwords". I think the same is here with the price. I don't think there's a chance that the PS5 is cheaper than the XSX maybe it will be on par but there's no way they can match the XSS. I expect $399 (or $449) for the digital version and if we're lucky $499 for the full version and they will be losing significant money on each console. Again, that's why I think they've held back. They didn't want Xbox coming out with their price after them, undercutting them and controlling the narrative. They know that can't compete with the XSS price. Now they come out with their showcase, show some games, and justify their price point.
Just my 2 cents. I could be completely wrong. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised.

It could be that but I think Dusk Golem somehow turned into this faceless ghoul who was easy to be hated.
In a way he comes across as some run of the mill guy who gets leaks, doesn't understand half of it and is in way over his head at times. I honestly cannot see any malicious intent. Not really sure what was going on with the whole PS5 struggling with 4K stuff but hey we all make mistakes.

Having watched that Bedrooms to Billions documentary it's interesting to imagine all the behind-the-scenes stuff going on at Sony right now.
I get the feeling they won't make the PS3 mistake. It won't be more than the XSX.

$499/$349. DE buyers are locked into the PS Store. Package it with a 3 month Plus trial and a 1 month Now trial and go hard on services.

I was actually thinking about the DE - what's going to happen when Mom'n'Pop go into their local store to get their kid a PS5 for Christmas, they know he/she wants a PS5 but there's a chance they weren't told about the difference between the DE and the regular edition - they just get the DE because it was the (in your scenario - much) cheaper option.
They buy a bunch of games at the store to go with it and get home, come Christmas they find out those (physical) games are useless on the DE.
Of course this isn't going to happen (hopefully) at somewhere like Gamestop where the staff should be pretty clear with customers (if anything, they would want people to buy the disc-version), but what about Best Buy, or your regular shops that sell everything under the sun (including games consoles)?
It's not a strictly PS5 problem because the XSS exists, but with the XSS the box is totally different. With PS5 DE, unless the packaging is totally different and unless staff are given some script about it being a digital-only device, you might end up with a lot of people feeling burned. To the untrained eye you'd be forgiven for not seeing the difference between a PS5 and PS5 DE just from the packaging alone.
Obviously none of this might happen but it could!

Makes you wonder how MS would've priced Xbox One if they didn't initially (and arrogantly) force everyone to buy a Kinect. If you think they probably wanted about $100/$150 for the Kinect, they could've undercut the PS4 if they hadn't totally fucked it up.
This time around you'd think they could undercut the PS5 if they wanted to. XSX and PS5 is about as apples to apples as it gets since the two companies first started competing.

They can. Xbox is just a sub-label and can be easily dropped when not profitable enough. Nokia can tell you a nice story about it.
The Xbox brand must compete with it's rivals on equal terms, otherwise shareholders may step in. It's not as easy as you might think.

Surely the fact it looks identical is the issue unless the boxes are different. With Xbox it'll be "Hey mom make sure to get the big black Xbox" so she knows what to look out for. With PS5 DE, it's like "Look on the box for a black slit, if it doesn't have one get the other one". Don't underestimate the amount of brainless parents who will buy the wrong one.

That's true to a point but in the end GT is just a racing game with a vroom vroom. It's the same things with better textures. There's no story or character to bring depth to it. It's a car rolling around a track
