PlayStation 5 Showcase on Wednesday 16 Sept

Just a reminder

Hip-Hop gamer is still saying PlayStation 5 will be BC with Playstation 1-4, so I guess we should find out Wednesday.

Sony has to show their Backwards compatibility features soon and I hope they show off enhancements for their PS4 biggest titles.

I don't think they're gonna be doing anything outside of gameplay and price & release date. It's only a 40 minute show

Anyone can clearly see that it's a really big upgrade. It certainly doesn't look like a PS3 game to me.

The shield that you collect form the boss is the one on his crotch

Of course there's an upgrade. You're comparing a PS3 game with a PS5 game.

The last PS Meeting for PS4 slim and Pro was also ~40 minutes long and that had release date and price.
That's not really a valid argument. Why would they show UI again at the ps slim and pro meeting if it was the same as ps-4's ui. I am telling you right now that 40 minutes isn't enough time to show UI

I was actually thinking about the DE - what's going to happen when Mom'n'Pop go into their local store to get their kid a PS5 for Christmas, they know he/she wants a PS5 but there's a chance they weren't told about the difference between the DE and the regular edition - they just get the DE because it was the (in your scenario - much) cheaper option.

They buy a bunch of games at the store to go with it and get home, come Christmas they find out those (physical) games are useless on the DE.

Of course this isn't going to happen (hopefully) at somewhere like Gamestop where the staff should be pretty clear with customers (if anything, they would want people to buy the disc-version), but what about Best Buy, or your regular shops that sell everything under the sun (including games consoles)?

It's not a strictly PS5 problem because the XSS exists, but with the XSS the box is totally different. With PS5 DE, unless the packaging is totally different and unless staff are given some script about it being a digital-only device, you might end up with a lot of people feeling burned. To the untrained eye you'd be forgiven for not seeing the difference between a PS5 and PS5 DE just from the packaging alone.

Obviously none of this might happen but it could!

Any thoughts?

Good question. It appears you already came up with a good answer on your own, in the sentence that I bolded above.

It will be up to Sony to provide distinctive packaging that clarifies that the machine does not play physical discs, and to ensure that store employees are able to educate prospective buyers on the differences. The packaging will likely use different color schemes, so that they are easily distinguishable on the shelves.

One reason why I believe the price difference between the two PS5 variants will be around $100 is because then it will encourage customers to become inquisitive about the functional differences. If the price difference is $50 or less, then some shoppers might think that the PS5DE is merely a "better bargain", instead of examining the finer details.

There was a whole 15 minute section where Mark Cerny was talking tech details about Pro's 4K, HDR, the games and VR. That time could be used for UI/BC etc for PS5's showcase. Or I'm sure Sony will also do YouTube videos that go into detail for things like UI, BC and other features hopefully right after the show.

One last 40 minute showcase before launch doesn't seem enough to cover the ground we're still in the dark about.

Gameplay for anything not Rachet: Spiderman, Demon Souls, Destruction All Stars, Kena, Goodbye Volcano High :goog_sneaky:.

The UI and OS features haven't been shown or even talked about outside twitter rumors.

They haven't showcased any backwards compatible games or mentioned how or if PS4 games will be enhanced that I'm aware of.

TLOU2, Ghost s of Tsushima, God of War.... Will they have patches, will they get automatic upgrades, what's the deal? Will we get footage there too or left to our imaginations like everything else with this nextgen transition?

Cyberpunk is the biggest game releasing for launch and there's been no nextgen footage or details of nextgen features other than a patch will be available. This is stupid on part of both consoles.

So are Sony going to cover all this, plus have new announcements plus talk price, launch and accessories? How much time will they waste on Bugsnax and the future game of all time, GVH?

Id bet $100 they, at the very least, boot the console, and load a game from the dash.

That'll take all of 10 seconds.

I wouldn't expect a super deep dive on UI though. They can show that in a blog post.

Their last show was majority AAA/AA games

But sure we'll go with your revisionism
Spider-Man Miles Morale: AA release at ($40)
Gran Turismo 7: AAA
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart: AAA I think?
Project Athia: ???
Stray: AA/indie
Returnal: AA
SAckboy: AA/indie
Kena: AA/indie
Oddworld Soulstorm: Indie
GhostWire Tokyo: AA
Godfall: AA
Solar Ash: AA/indie
Hitman III: AAA
Astro Bot: AA
Little Devil Inside: AA/indie
NBA 2K21: AAA
Bugsnax: AA/indie
Deathloop: Bottom tier AAA
Resident Evil Village: AAA
Pragmata: AAA?
Horizon Forbidden West: AAA
GTA 5 Enhanced: Update
Demon Souls: AAA
Destruction All-Stars: AA

The only showed about 8 full AAA.. Only 4 of which were actual first party. I specifically remember watching the event with my friends and during the event, we were like "ok where are the big guns" cus they showed so many smaller aa/inides in a row.

This time around they really need to get all out. Leave the indie/AA stuff to the side.. AAA is what sells us a console

that would be really cool actually if they switched gameplay games by just showing us them navigating through the UI

So, HipHop Gamer is a real thing? Like Like, a source? For informations?

I though that whole idea of super fast cold boot or insta resume etc is to never see the dashboard.

I Sony has to mention it briefly if they're going to sell people on the new console. A short 3 minute segment showing off some BC and UI features would help and then have an extended look at it after the show in a separate video.

I think they'll drop the ball a bit if BC features aren't mentioned on their show. What makes me believe that it's possible is that Spider-Man MM is going to feature a remastered version of the original game.

If Horizon Forbidden West, Demon Souls, God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man: MM are featured on this show, then I would be great if they talk about playing Bloodborne, HZD, God of War and Spider-Man PS4 at 4K60fps on PlayStation 5.

Edit: TLOU MP has been rumored, too.

It's where the "remastering engine" rumor started months ago. I don't think he's legit, but it's something I'll keep an eye on before the PS5 releases.

Soooo.... What's gonna go wrong between now and Wednesday?

Solar flare, covid mutation, aliens, media reports something inaccurately and it escalates unrest to an all out war?

But that wouldn't be BC though. For those games to run at 4K60, they would require PS5 patches.

How many AAA are you expecting? You do understand how long each of them take to make?

MS is a $1.5TN company, I just can't see how Sony can afford to compete on price.

There was a time many years ago Sony's name was somehow a premium product in the West, but in Japan was on the same level as a Aiwa or Matsui. They seem to have crawled out of the crab bucket.

Should we expect a ps4 price drop shortly after the ps5 announcement, or only after the ps5 release?

is the ps5 also going to sound like a jet engine readying for take off?

It's one of the reasons for variable clock speeds. They know the absolute maximum power that the system will draw and can thus design their cooling around it. If the PS5 sounds like a jet engine, they've failed.

But that wouldn't be BC though. For those games to run at 4K60, they would require PS5 patches.
It is BC since it's running their PS4 games on PS5.

Enhanced games are features that BC would provide. It should be highlighted if they want to help sell people on the PS5 console.

There is no enhanced game thing on PS5. That's something that Xbox does only.

To be fair, he said the majority were AAA/AA, and 21 of the 24 on your own list are designated by you as AA or AAA. That's an overwhelming majority.

Although I suspect you two are defining "AA" differently, since you often say "AA/indie," which in my mind are different sorts of games.

They can enhanced the game with a patch. That's part of the BC features.
The game doesn't get a next gen upgrade though
You just get to play the game at 4k/60 w/ little to no load times via boost mode on select PS4 titles (the top 100 most played). We get to experience fast load times patch or not due to the SSD. Sony said after they address the top games they will try to expand boost mode to other PS4 games.

I have this idea for a PS5 showcase that I'm now overly committed to and will be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

Since it's digital, imagine if the whole thing happens within the PS5 UI, quick jumping between video speakers and quick resuming different games on showcase.

"And now to show the quick switching feature"
jumps into badass GoW2 Thor scene out of nowhere
"Whoops, that's not quite ready yet"

Imagine the hype. It's probably too early but even just the smallest bit of it, or something else.

:( I know

how much over, though. Series X is 599 CAD which is ~450 USD at present exchange rate :)

hope Sony matches that here

Yeah, it's nice that Microsoft is eating some of the exchange rate for a change. 99% of companies would rather round up. I hope Sony matches, because the exchange rate and tax bringing these consoles near mental barriers for me.
