Having read some more of this thread, is there a particular reason it seems to accepted that future titles are going to come out for PlayStation? That doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

Because it may still make MS more money in the long run putting them on PS5, while still offering them day one on Game Pass for Xbox owners.

None of us know and anything could change. These games are still years away.

That reason is called Minecraft.
Microsoft could make Minecraft exclusive to Xbox at any time. And they still can. But they won't, because doing so loses them money.

Bethesda purchase cost a lot of money. Money they expect to earn back. It could go either way, so my guess is that the odds are 50/50.

Given Sony have been pretty aggressive with exclusives including third party content I feel letting them continue to have Fallout/Elder Scrolls would be handing them a free pass.

I want gamers to have the choice of where to play, don't get me wrong but it just seems ludicrous to me that they'd make a purchase like this for the purpose of profiting off PS purchases of Elder Scrolls.

They should merge InXile and Obsidian and give us the glory that was Interplay again. Then make them work on a isometric Fallout.
One can dream, best thing is - everything is possible now. What a time to be alive, we're getting Baldur's Gate 3 and now there's possibility for Obsidians Fallout, crazy.

I don't understand much about acquisitions but I think all those IPs belong to Microsoft now and will be playable on Xbox and PC only. Am I right?
That's the assumption.

The IP's and studios belong to MS but we don't know 100% about Sony platforms.

I assume they will not go to PS.

Lmfao I literally shouted out loud when I saw the news! That was SO out of the blue! I saw The Evil Within in the images of games, and now am hopeful for The Evil Within 3 in the future! Microsoft and Tango Gameworks make it happen!

Sony needs to surprise us by buying Rockstar Games. Ha, yeah right.

Looking at Take Two's lineup, I could see Microsoft actually buying them too.

Besides GTA/RDR there is: NBA 2K, Borderlands, Civilization, Bioshock, XCom, WWE, etc.

That lineup is already very, very PC heavy and most of those games have had strong association with the Xbox brand before including being bundled with consoles.

It wouldn't be the worst purchase in the world for Microsoft.

Microsoft money backed Rare. We all know how that turned out. From a developer on par with Nintendo to gamepass filler.

Lets not forget the 500 million poured into Halo infinite.

Reminder! The Microsoft plan has been to get Nintendo and PlayStation to add Gamepass to their consoles as a device. Thus, they would be able to play these games on all consoles, just through a Gamepass subscription. Nintendo and Sony have disallowed this so far.

I suppose it would depend what the deal with the IPs is. If Microsoft have free reign over Fallout which you'd assume they would, I see no reason they wouldn't farm out IPs like that to their other in house teams like Inxile/Obsidian.

lol absolutely not. Stop spreading FUD.

You guys really need to go see the Outer Worlds posts and tell me thats who you want working on Fallout.
OW was rushed, a new IP on a short-cycle and was designed to be on GP.

It works mechanically. It may not be the best looking game and idgaf about the 'butch women' 'woke' bollox that was being spewed around. For a new IP it did what it was meant to do; make a mark.

Major major props to Microsoft for pulling this off. This was as incredble of an acquisition they could have made. They now own some of the most iconic PC franchises ever created. As a huge Sony fan this should terrify me, but this was a huge shot across the bow.

Well played Microsoft.

Worst case scenario Sony takes 30%. That is still better than no money at all. Your logic isn't wrong; but if you are right then Minecraft wouldn't still be on Playstation and getting a PSVR patch. I understand your thought processes but Microsoft's current actions contradict this.

I get what they’re doing. Buying up some big names but keeping them multiplat just to stop Sony money hatting them for exclusivity or ownership. Valid strategy actually.

I’d still go for the jugular though and go full exclusive. Business is business 😎

Mate 8 billion dollars operating profit is no small deal. But, Microsoft operating profit this year was 55 bn$.
I think for years sony Corp was losing money.
According to my friend who is a Nintendo fanboy who hates Sony, they are selling buildings to keep afloat to stem the bleeding. They have been in the red for a long time.

I also heard the head honchos at Sony are only having left over egg sushi and miso soup for dinner instead of their usual ootoro, unagi and sake.

I'm not sure if Microsoft really wants Gamepass on Playstation but I will agree that if your box doesn't have or allow Gamepass then you won't see these games.

This is amazing, mind blown. Doom, Elder scrolls, Wolfenstein, Fallout, Deathloop, Prey, Evil within and Ghostwire:Tokyo. This is a devastating blow for Sony. They simply don’t have the cash to fight this war whereas Microsoft is swimming in it. This will continue to get worse as Microsoft is so focused on services.

It's not perfect, and it's obvious that the game was done on a lower budget, but I enjoyed the hell outta the game and it was so wonderful playing a game that gave me major New Vegas vibes. My only complaint was that the perks were pretty weak and the game became drastically less interesting once you hit the level cap.
