I am not sure why Jim's getting any hate here. He didn't throw any shade at Xbox. Jim just said he doesn't believe in the philosophy of launching a console generation with two different powered skus, and he says he respects the competitors philosophy. But punks like Destructoid and journalists would twist his very own neutral words into console warring BS.

Same here at Finland, still available for launch. But PS5 orders go to january-march/2021

I guess doing things better than last time didnt really matter on EU, if this is the case on other countries too.

Not trying to start a war, just think it is interesting how much slower xbox sells even after all the game pass hype.

So basically same thing as another European countries. Thanks for sharing. It will be wild if Xbox sell under 1 million consoles at 1 year outside US. For Sony this number is pretty much guaranteed already.

Good call. Hadn't really thought about that but yeah they're really turning into a Nintendo style quality publishing house where you can be assured of a minimum level of greatness.

It's important to note that only games from the top 100 games played by PS4 users will be backwards compatible by launch and, even then, the whole list might not be available. The list of backwards compatible games for the PS5 will steadily grow after the console's release, similar to, we imagine, how the list of 360 games playable on the Xbox One has grown since it's debut.

I have the same feeling, like PS5 is still ridding on the success of PS4, but to me Jim Ryan seems very much alike with Phil Spencer, albeit more quiet but still kinda the same sanke oil salesman strategy...

Hmmm. I think it's probably just best to not mention the competition. You're only setting yourself up for a fall. Sorry, but I get bad vibes off the guy whenever he speaks. Reminds me of the way a lot of the Microsoft executives behave, which is no good thing.

How many times should this be clarified to people like you? Every single PS4 game will run on your PS5 just as they performed on the PS4. Some of them can take additional advantage of PS5 horsepower to deliver higher and more stable resolution and frame rates. The definition of some of them is 100 games based on playtime stats. So I am saying it again here, all PS4 games are playable on PS5 day one. But only 100 will take additional advantage of the PS5 power to run and look better than how they did on PS4. Stop with the misinformation and spreading fud!!

Dude he mentioned the competition because they literally asked him to weigh in his thoughts and he did so in a respectful way. And Jimbo sounds more genuine and sincere!

What can I say? I plain just don't like the guy - partially because of the power grab last year, and partially because he comes across as a man who's more concerned with stroking his own ego than anything else. He certainly doesn't sound like much of a gamer. He's a guy who suits Microsoft's brash swaggering more than Sony's quiet work ethic.

yes, we will have to see how it plays out this time. I know that the PS4 slim and the XBox One S sold several times better than the PS4 Pro and the XBox One X because of the lower price point.
currently the Series S seem to sell not that good, but that might change over the generation. I can see a lot of playstation guys buy a cheap XBox as second box, once the games arrive in a few years.

Just... don't go there, mate, with such people, it's useless. This info has been available for many months now and Eurogamer decided to put (again) all the available data in one place. And of course, it's Eurogamer, if you look at a history of their articles about PS5, it's not even funny.

The bolded part was the OP's intention to look smart and at the same time to fuel his/her own fight in the glorious trenches of the console war. Ignore/report, or both, and move on with your day.

It wasn't about launching a system that is weaker. It was launching 2 systems that don't have spec parity (1 significantly stronger than the other) at the same time.

How many times has that happened though? Is it just MS doing it with One S and the 360 Acarde consoles? I think what's different this gen is the fact that there are still a good amount of people that still don't have 4K TVs. I know that 4K TVs are cheap now, but the quality of a cheap 4K tv isn't good. I've personally held off buying a 4K tv, and will until next year's models come out and include premium game features. I think this combined with the possibility of using a Series S as a secondary or even budget console for casuals and lower income families is attractive when considering the value of Game Pass.

Just to clarify - Cerny said they tested the top 100 games by playtime in the PS5 boost mode and most worked correctly. Not that only 100 can take advantage of it

And it's much more inferior, it's using 4-channel and only 2x lanes! Probably the first to only use 2x lanes instead of 4x. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: Thought that was a cost reduction way, but seems it's not.

Speaking with Japanese site AV Watch (and translated by Video Games Chronicle), Ryan said "One thing that can be said is that if you look at the history of the game business, creating a special low priced, reduced spec console is something that has not had great results in the past. We've considered that option and seen other executives who have attempted this discover how problematic it is."

Ryan continued "Based on our research, it's clear that people who buy a game console want to continue using it for four, five, six or even seven years. They want to believe they have bought something that is future-proofed and not going to be outdated in two-to-three years."

He knows his shit.

First rule of someone making an offer to buy you is that you then try and drum up additional interest to push up the asking price.

While this is a huge move by MS, we're still not really seeing anything game-wise? Just business dealings.

Apart from a flash of next gen battlefield animation, next gen hasn't been wow wow wow yet , tbth , tech wise in game....

Souls is wonderful of course (as agame most importantly!) , and some nice graphics , but , i hope people get what I'm saying.

I think Sony making a easier to develop for gaming platform , will show quicker divid ends in true next gen animation and glitz, the production time equals cost , and time to gamers is everything.... Should be interesting.
