Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS4 to PS5 Upgrade MAY be Only for Digital Purchases (Update: includes physical)

save data transfer issue makes sense. possible new security in place for save files on the ps5. did I understand correctly the pS5 is 70usd ?

59.99 iirc
Unless they build in some kind of save data import tool (and I hope CDPR is doing so), yeah, games with post-launch upgrades are going to require a fresh new game to enjoy the new features.

Good on SEGA for fairly quickly clarifying matters.

The lack of transferable saves does mean I won't be making a decision on the game, until I have clearer picture on my own next-gen purchases.

I'm buying a PS5 to play PS5 games at their best possible performance. Why would I bother with a PS4 anymore? I'll be too busy with Demon's Souls and Spider-Man and Assassin's Creed to even worry about titles like this until they actually release.

This is a non-issue.

It's similar for Maneater's upgrade, Xbox One saves transfer but PS4 saves do not.

Well, I'm sure you an play the PS4 versions of the games on PS5 and still have access to your PS4 save files. I guess Trophies/Achievements would be another hurdle if last generation/current generation were separate applications.

the fact save data wont work is the story here...it sucks but I also dont care.

Yes and no. I generally agree, but it can be an issue on RPGs where you can clock dozens of hours. Imagine if it happened on monster hunter where I have 1000 hours. It's concerning.

dont get me wrong, I only dont care because im not buying this game on ps...Im playing it on xbox....It really does suck and seems to be an issue outside of just the game developer not doing it because there's also spider man not doing it.

I think this thread really makes the rampant clowning on "Smart Delivery" even more stupid. Everyone acted like that was a given across the board and it clearly isn't.

May potentially have something to do with publishing agreements.

Probably something to do with file structures and where PS5 games look for save data. Still seems like something that should be easily overcome.

I believe they should be able to overcome it...if they want to put in the effort. See below.

This isn't a Sony thing, you could transfer saves between plenty of PS3, PS4, and Vita games, and they aren't even remotely the same consoles. This is just a developer not giving a shit I guess.

That's true. There are lots of games (big and small) that supported cross-save between PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. Sony promoted this feature pretty heavily at a time when their two chief competitors turned a blind eye to it.

Cross-save is accomplished by saving data to the cloud. I'm not talking about PS Plus cloud saves (like you would use to back up saved data for personal use), but cloud saves within the games themselves, maintained by the game's publisher. Some games required the user to manually sync the saves, while others accomplish this automatically without any user intervention--it was all up to the developer's implementation.

If little games like Sound Shapes, CounterSpy, Shovel Knight, Another World, Velocity 2X, and several NeoGeo emulations could pull off cross-save cleanly without a hitch, then there's no excuse for a major commercial release to restrict it.

Heck, I remember that Grand Theft Auto IV for PS4 went as far as allowing you to import save data from the Xbox 360 version of the game.

If Sega needs help implementing this, then perhaps they should seek assistance from Sony and/or any of the developers of the games mentioned above.

I'm curious how those PS3/Vita/PS4 cross saved games handled Trophies?

I guess the other question is if this a limitation of PS5 or the development team not wanting to implement the feature. Crummy news either way.

Pretty sure all the cross save games had shared trophy lists, so it's one list across all the SKU's that can load that save, meaning it doesn't matter which of the 3 systems load thst save. Could be wrong though.

Saves don't carry over? It's not like someone is going from a PS4 version to a PS5 remaster or remake.

it's the same game.

it would be like saves not working from xbox/PS4 OG to One X/Pro

The cross-save games generally handled trophies in one of two ways:

  1. They shared a single common trophy list between the supported systems.
  2. They maintained separate trophy lists for each system, and syncing the saves would also instantly grant whatever trophies you earned from the other system(s). For example, I was able to earn a double platinum for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3 & Vita), and a triple platinum for Sound Shapes (PS3, PS4, & Vita).

Almost certain that this falls on the developer's shoulders, since numerous games pulled it off on PS3, PS4, and Vita despite the disparate hardware. Some games also support cross-save with PC, and in a few cases (such as the GTA4 example I mentioned earlier) even with competing consoles.
