I like em both - like the minimalism of the Xbox. Like the sleekness of the ps5 - plus the liquid metal. I know nothing about hardware but liquid metal is awesome.
Well aren't you Mr fun socks?!There's a major difference you're missing. The tear downs were done at MS, but they sent consoles to people for previews. Sony did previews in a tightly controlled office at their headquarters. They didn't send consoles to anyone. They also did their tear down with a Sony employee. MS let other people do their own tear downs.
Both completely different situations, don't try and "Microsoft too" it.
I hope not. External power bricks are better in every way. Less heat in the console, and easier repair/replacement. It's like internal batteries, having them just makes it less user friendly.
But what I'm saying is that sony tightly controlled both things - no one outside of sony has even got to hold a PS5 yet. Dozens of reviewers have literally held and played XSX's in their own offices/homes. Multiple people got to go to MS and do the tear down themselves. The Sony teardown was a Sony employee. The playtests were all at sony and no-one was allowed to touch the console or even take photos of the back of it.Well aren't you Mr fun socks?!
...Had to...
I said they're both done in facilities provided by the producers of the consoles. The sony play test YouTube videos from Japan also had a third party in the facility conducting the test.
It's not the same, no. But I'm comfortable pointing out these differences
Yeah as Sony use all that replaceable plastic in the colour most people don't want. I wouldn't be surprised to see a David Attenborough video of the ocean full of White Ps5 covers.
You miat have missed all the videos about how hot the xbox is. Borderline burn inducing.
His source instantly destroyed him
that's actually more complicated than the PS5 lol the PS5 a traditional design lol
I'm really not trying to start a rabbit hole of replies but were those two YouTube personalities Sony employees? But what I'm saying is that sony tightly controlled both things - no one outside of sony has even got to hold a PS5 yet. The Xbox internal design is so bad compared to what Sony did with the PS5. The Xbox parts are just mashed together with a fan on top with so many of the holes blocked. If you put the Xbox sideways the big round stand just sits there looking ridiculous, not to mention blocking nearly all air intake. The PS5 has a freakin' compartment for the attachment screw and they even give you a small bit to fill the screw hole when you lay it sideways. So much attention to detail. It's just a completely different approach to system design, and sadly the Xbox XSX continues Microsoft's "legendary" design chops. I don't get how Microsoft can still churn out the kinds of products it does in every area when they have decades of seeing superior competition. They don't even seem to get why they turn out inferior products. It's maddening.
No no, nobody is complaining that hot air is coming OUT of the system, the concern seems to be that the system itself is getting too hot. ie, not pushing enough hot air out of the system.Maybe to people who don't know any better or just console army boys fighting their little war. But having warm air coming out of the exhaust without the fan ramping up or the system shutting down means it's operating within it's designed thermal limits.
Until proven otherwise YouTubers can clickbait you as much as they want
Others know better and don't take comments out of context.
If either of these consoles were getting too hot, they would shut down due to excessive thermals. This hasn't happened for the 100's of XSX's, and there haven't been any hands on testing of the ps5 outside of the limited amounts Sony has shown. No no, nobody is complaining that hot air is coming OUT of the system, the concern seems to be that the system itself is getting too hot. ie, not pushing enough hot air out of the system.
You had the same misunderstanding in another thread.
Xbox proves that the PlayStation didn't need to be as large as it is. What a chonker of a console.
Because it's much more impressive to stop something in a big tower than into a small rectangular box?The PS5 internals are the most impressive I've seen in a console. Everything looks engineered to the highest level to solve certain design problems.
Liquid metal, rail-gun heatsink, vibration dampeners, double sided fan, dust catchers....the teardown made the old fella downstairs twitch...
Series X in comparison kinda looks like a small form factor PC, very standard looking. MS have saved money on the unit itself, even the plastic box looks kinda cheap.

How can anyone seriously say the Xbox is better engineering? The PS5 has a crazy heatsink and liquid metal cooling. Lol Please.
P.S. We also don't know how long the liquid metal will be able to stay efficient.
who? The tear down was a Sony employee.I'm really not trying to start a rabbit hole of replies but were those two YouTube personalities Sony employees?
What's crazy about the PlayStation heat sink? The Xbox has a vapour chamber lol. The Xbox is better engineering because it's more powerful and it's in a significantly smaller console, and the airflow and design seem smarter. Air goes in one end, through the entire console, and out the other. How can anyone seriously say the Xbox is better engineering? The PS5 has a crazy heatsink and liquid metal cooling. Lol Please.
Because the internals dictate what you can make the console look like on the outside. After the tear down you can see Sony could have made the plates smaller but integrated that into the cooling solution. They gave it an "open" design. There's also a large heat sink in there. They listened to their fans and focused on cooling and fan noise. The Xbox didn't. If it stays just as cool and quiet as Sony's then they pulled off a better design and engineering job. If not, it will be criticized for cramming parts in to a small space. Either way, we won't know until they are both in real world conditions( actual gamers living rooms)
Making compact devices isn't a new thing. It all comes down to how much noice these consoles make. Theres already murmurs of the series X giving out a lot of heat whilst playing BC games. Add in next gen games and that could mean the fan noise will be more audible. What's crazy about the PlayStation heat sink? The Xbox has a vapour chamber lol. Oh absolutely, I'm in no mad rush to go out and buy either console. I'll be waiting at least 6 months to see how things pan out, reliability wise.If either of these consoles were getting too hot, they would shut down due to excessive thermals. This hasn't happened for the 100's of XSX's, and there haven't been any hands on testing of the ps5 outside of the limited amounts Sony has shown.
Furthermore, those rumors are debunked. Why not just wait for real life testing from ps5, to see what differences they may have?

Giving off heat is GOOD. It means Less heat inside, it means it's doing its job lol. Also BC games on Series x get the full power of the console, all 12TF, so of course it'll run hot. It won't be any hotter running next gen games. It might actually run cooler because it actually will take advantage of the new architecture instead of brute forcing it.Making compact devices isn't a new thing. It's not just a stand on the Series X, it's part of the cooling design. Is not like the PlayStation where it literally has a stand to help it stand. The more I think about this, the more you appreciate the simplicity of the Xbox design.
The hoops you have to jump through to place the PS5 horizontally, or expand SSD storage. Mental, over-complex, and just poor overall design despite what you may think.
Xbox not getting off completely either. The stand remaining when put horizontal is quite ugly.
Yeh I'm sure Microsoft made the console to have bad airflow lol. Jesus Christ.Yeah, can definitely see why the Series X gets so hot, that's a bit too packed for good airflow.

Define too hot? You're contradicting yourself in your own post. The same clickbait videos say the system is "near silent" yet the system is hot to the touch. Which on itself is something that has been taken out of context by one of the youtubers with a xsx talking about the ssd expansion card.
But fine, let's rhetorically say that it IS running that hot. If performance and normal operation of the system can be maintained, then clearly it's running within it's designed thermal limits. Have you ever held a Macbook on your lap?
Your inability to do this thought exercise is why such rumors spread like wildfire.
And at the end of the day, 99.999% of users of both systems will turn them on and play games on quiet machines.
And what do you mean by 'Xbox didnt'? Xbox didn't need to listen to fans complaints on cooling and fan noise, because they've had whisper quiet consoles for 7 years!
I'm having a good laugh at folk claiming the inside of their machine is superior to the other.
Who gives a shit? Who ever opens up their console?
The only important factor here is how the outside looks, and nothing can currently hide the ugly of the PS5. Maybe somebody can create some custom clip on panels to make it look like the XSX?

Oh i was referring to the playtesting when i started this, like i said it's not the same thing, I'm just saying they were both done by third parties on company ground~ in that regard they were similar, but treated differently~who? The tear down was a Sony employee.
Well of course, Xbox is mostly just USA and the UK. They lost a lot of market share even in those countries at the start of last gen. Plus the one channel is from Playstation and the other is Digital Foundry.370k views and 16k likes in 6 months X 4.4M and 307k likes in 20h....damn
Damn, I just can't get over how massive the PS5 is. It's basically a PC.
that's not true though. People have Xbox consoles at their homes to preview. They aren't being play tested at MS.Oh i was referring to the playtesting when i started this, like i said it's not the same thing, I'm just saying they were both done by third parties on company ground~ in that regard they were similar, but treated differently~
