Proud of you guys , Witcher is the better game

When people say The Witcher 3 combat is awful I just laugh because they clearly didn't play the game in Death March difficulty.

My 2nd playthrough was in Death March and boy was it good. You actually have to put skill points into the Alchemy tree. You have to study the bestiary to prepare for most fights, you have to drink the correct potions, coat your blade with the correct oils, use different bombs for each different foe. The combat is super deep.

Anyways I voted for The Witcher 3. Easily the best game of the generation for me.

Should have played Death March on your first playthrough, nub. Git Gud.

Difficulty still doesn't elevate the combat above serviceable.

why love the inferior souls experiences ? because they are exclusives ?

This makes me sad. Is it hard living life being so wrong?

(This statement was sarcasm)

I never thought anything could ever top Demon's Souls then Dark Souls came out and I was floored and thought I finally had a game beat Metroid 2 for me. Then I played what has been the single greatest atmospheric game of forever for me. To be able to merge From's Souls series into an HP Lovecraft fanfic fest with the fusion of iconic Gothic architecture and monstrous creatures is just unbelievable to me.

Bloodborne coming out March of 2015 followed by Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the first SIn in April and Witcher 3 May of 2015

So much shit came out in 2015 but the first half of the year was the happiest I have been in a long time as a gamer

Shit, Pillars of Eternity even came out first half of 2015.

They didn't play a game like The Witcher 1 either, which had an ungodly combat system spawned from the jankier parts of Hell that devolved into rhythmic clicking. Didn't stop that game from being great either.

BB for me.
I like the world of Witcher 3 and the characters are likeable but almost every resolution to the story was disappointing (except for the Baron) with probably one of the worst group of villains ever imo. I don't know if I have to read the books or something but goddamn The Wild Hunt is boring as fuck, no personality at all aside from "I'm a bad guy I want Ciri to conquer the world!". The main story overall is meh with some horrible parts (White Frost menace out of nowhere) and only stands afloat because of its charming cast of characters and worldbuilding.

Also, this must be a PS4 issue (dunno if it happens in Xbox too) but the sound effects are subpar and really kill some moments. For example, I don't remember hearing the slash that kills Crach.

Yenn all day baby.

I actually didn't mind Witcher's combat though I do remember how divided the reception to it was. I think GFW talked about it back in the day.

I personally don't mind it that much either. We're used to that type of shit on PC :messenger_grinning_sweat: but it's just never going to fill the "action" niche.

Witcher combat was so strange and yet so satisfying*. PC gamers put up with a lot of strange shit to play games and I wouldn't have it any other way.

*it was great when it was over.

It was actually such a good game. CDPR started off on solid footing straight away.

Yeah, and now it might be a bit late to revisit it. It was definitely good for its time.

People keep saying witcher 3 has had a huge impact on open world games. But it came out over 5 years ago and I'm scratching my head at what it is. I'm not criticising W3 in this regard, I just want to know what other people think that impact is and where we can see it? I played through all three witcher games and can't think of any innovation they brought to the rpg genre outside of just having high production values.

The sheer beauty of the open world and the constant movement from wind and shit makes it feel way more alive and interesting than other open worlds. There might not always be interesting things to do in it but I often went places without Roach just to absorb the world.

Cyberpunk 2020 came out in 1988. Either way, if you agree with Fallout you get the point
Keep in mind that what me or you say is just basics.
Gamers don't usally are smart thinking about mechanics, at least from today standarts.
Open worlds are AC clones, plataforms are stupid metrovania term and any difficult game is a souls game.

I don't really get what you're trying to say here, but all i'm doing is try and stick with the origins of western RPG in tabletop role playing games as the proper definition, with some amount of leeway of course.

I'll remind you guys when a new game get called metrovania souls clone.

For now, lets agree to disagree.

If what you're trying to say here is that calling games like Fallout a RPG is just gamers expanding the definition stupidly, like calling everything souls-like or metroidvania, be aware that you're very wrong. Tabletop RPGs, which western electronic rpgs based themselves on, were never tied to a swords and magic setting:

Also wrong. It was great at the time, very satisfying visually and you could do some pretty amazing combos with signs.

Of course, if people are so dumb to just spend all the game just rythm-clicking, they would rate it poorly. But that's on those special type of people.

I did get into the whole game, including the combat system at the time and enjoyed it thoroughly. It just hasn't aged that well for modern sensibilities, especially with CDPR moving onto bigger and, arguably, better things.

are you saying that rythm only is to witcher 1 what wirhlwind and quen is for witcher 3 ?

Noob here so can't vote, but if I could it'll definitely be for Bloodborne. IMO the witcher 3 is kind of overrated; people claim the story telling is so good, outside of the boron sidequest, the main story is a fuck'n slog. Tried 3 times to beat it, but the story was just uninteresting for me I couldn't keep going; the combat didn't do it any favors either.

I assume Zelda will beat MGS5?

Which is lame, I voted RDR2 over MGS5 but I would vote MGS5 million times over Zelda. Last great Zelda was Link's Awakening on 1989 gameboy.

Is it so unimaginable? TW3 jumped in my top 10 all time and BB does not make my top 100.
I consider the game in your avatar utter garbage for example. To each its own, as they say XD
Prey is also one of my favorite games ever, so, yes, it looks like we are worlds apart.
You sure you know what game are you talking about here?

I'm just having fun here.

Bloodborne is objectively the best game on that list, followed by MGS V. Games journalists are a joke and the awards they present are nothing more than popularity contests.

Both are top 5 of all time and this match should've been the final, instead we will have crap like BotW that might even win because Switch players have no games to play.

Bloodborne really fucked up my enjoyment of The Witcher 3 because of its superior combat.

And partially because I played Bloodborne before The Witcher 3.

I like BB, but Witcher is so vastly superior as a gaming, technological and narrative achievement, it doesn't even bear comparison. One of the best games of all time, a true genre-defining title.

Even the Japanese press, always rooting for the home team, recognizes this. BB got a 36/40 from Famitsu and Witcher 3, a Western RPG, made it out with a 37/40.
