Know any weird facts?

Fingerlickin' Good!
Here's one I learned today:

Since 1989, Kenny G's recording "Going Home" from the Kenny G Live album has become an unconventional mega-hit throughout China: It has become the unofficial national closing song for businesses such as food courts, outdoor markets, health clubs, shopping malls and train stations throughout the country.[37] Many businesses begin piping the music over their loudspeakers shortly before closing at night. Television stations also play the song before ending their evening broadcasts. Many Chinese, when asked, say they associate the song with the need to finish their activity or business and go home (although they may not even know the name of the song or its artist)

The amount of poo produced by a single person starts to add up when you calculate poop production over years and decades.

Starting with an average daily amount of about 14 ounces (400 grams), the total poop production in a week's time would be about 6 lbs. (2.8 kilograms). In a year, a single person would yield about 320 lbs. (145 kg) of poop — just a little more than an adult panda weighs.

In the U.S., the average life expectancy for men is about 76 years old, and for women, it is around 81 years old. Therefore, a man living to age 76 would produce about 24,320 lbs. (11,030 kg) of poop over his lifetime, and a woman living to age 81 would produce about 25,920 lbs. (11,757 kg) — so a lifetime of a woman's poop weighs about as much as three adult male hippos.

To be honest, i probably do, but I'm drawing a blank. Apparently it's physically impossible for us to eat a spoonful of cinnamon without gagging.

Here's one I learned today:

Can confirm, except it's not just played at closing time but always included in the looped music is almost every coffee shop or restaurant.

Here's another China Kenny G fact. The Kenny G Roasters restaurants are still alive and well despite being all closed down in the USA.

The translation of baywatch from English to Latvian has resulted in much of the country pronouncing the name Mitch Buchannon as Mitch Book-a-non, resulting in several foreigners being confused when the topic of baywatch comes up.

Apparently I learned today that Kenny G and Kenny Rogers are the same person.

The T. Rex is closer to humans in Earth's timeline than the Stegosaurus was to the T. Rex.

Hippos and Dolphins are cousins.

Orcas and Belugas are actually dolphins, not whales.

Pakicetus and Ambulocetus were walking whales until they decided to go fuck it, and they dropped their legs. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The name for the shape of Pringles is called a "Hyperbolic Paraboloid".

Sonic the Hedgehog's full name is actually Ogilvie Maurice Hedgehog.

The first roller coaster was used to transport coal down a hill. After people found that it could reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour, tourists asked to ride on it for a few cents.

Two PlayStation 1 games, Fifa 2001 and Gran Turismo 2, has scratch & sniff discs. The Fifa 2001 smelled like a soccer field, while Gran Turismo 2 smelled like car tires.

Baked beans are actually not baked, but stewed.

Eggs boiled in virgin boys' urine are a delicacy in China
You thought eating bugs or dogs was weird? Try a "sophisticated" version of boiled eggs: urine eggs, which are boiled for an entire day in the urine of boys under the age of 10. Locals believe they have myriad benefits, such as increasing circulation of the blood. And it's such a stalwart, the tradition was recognized as local intangible cultural heritage in 2008.

Kale, cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, collard greens, and others were are all cultivated form the same plant. Something to keep in mind when people freak out about GMO food. Most things we eat already is, it just took longer before.

There is a particular butterfly who will only lay its eggs in the fur of sloths.

Speaking of sloths. They spend almost all their life upside down. Now that most people know, but what most people don't know is that the only time they do go down on the ground is to take a dump. Which they do approximately once a week. And they have one tree were they crap all their lives. Always returning to the same tree to squeeze it out.

This is by the way the time when the butterflies manage to lay their eggs there, since they know the sloth will return to that pile of sloth-dung sooner or later.

I have a lot more facts and might share them if people feel the need to know.

Yes, please, I would love to know more.

All metals dug from the earth since the 60s are slightly radioactive from the nuclear tests so for making sensitive machines they have to reuse old metals from world war scraps.

Your memories aren't real. ignore the fact that its the Guardian, it was just the first video that I found that explains the Phenomena: -

Newton's Law of Cooling is a total head fuck. Sometimes.

Newton's law of cooling states that the rate of heat loss of a body is proportional to the difference in temperatures between the body and its surroundings. As such, it is equivalent to a statement that the heat transfer coefficient, which mediates between heat losses and temperature differences, is a constant.

This condition is generally true in thermal conduction (where it is guaranteed by Fourier's law), but it is often only approximately true in conditions of convective heat transfer, where a number of physical processes make effective heat transfer coefficients somewhat dependent on temperature differences.

Finally, in the case of heat transfer by thermal radiation, Newton's law of cooling is not true.

So we have true, generally true and not true. Fuck you Newton and your silly physics tri-law.

Ok,

did you know that koalas are prone to exploding during forest fires?
The reason for that is that they are typically drenched in eucalyptus oil due to their diet.
Female koalas can also commit suicide by jumping from trees if a male in heat is on his way up and they don't want to get raped.

There is a family of mushrooms promptly named "Phallacae". Since they remind of... well dicks.
Not only do they look like actual dicks. They are more commonly called stinkhorn, since the smell is so repugnant that you will notice them if they are somewhere near you in the forest. They are also covered in green mucus to attract flies that will eat it. The spores then stick to the flies and they travel on. Think about that next time a fly walk on your food, you might just get some penis mushroom spores in you.

Other species in this fungi-family look like, and smell like, rotten flesh. For the same reason as the above. How they managed to replicate this look and smell, is a mystery that I almost don't want the answer to.
