[Prejudice against some games]Cyberpunk 2077 is not the biggest game of the year, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is.

There are a lot of people saying this about Cyberpunk, but meanwhile, New Horizons sold more, got talked more and turned in a cultural phenomenon. And being exclusive to just one console.

I mean, we got kids playing with their grandparents, US of A politicians using the game, famous people posting about the game in their social media.

So, help me understand why there is this prejudice against the biggest game of the year by all metrics.

Let's discuss.

The biggest game of the year is probably some shitty mobile game.

I also disagree that New Horizons got talked about more. The hype train for cyberpunk was massive.
The truth. I wouldn't be surprised if Genshin Impact is up there somewhere.

Same. I've heard and seen more people talk about Cyberpunk than Animal Crossing. Hell, I bought Animal Crossing and still haven't touched it. :|

Cyberpunk has transcended games, it has been talked about by everyone, Animal Crossing was huge sure but nowhere near Cyberpunk.

Animal Crossing had Corona to thank for why it garnered more eyes on it.

Cyberpunk was the biggest event outside of real world events this year.

Animal Crossing is a really hardware pushing game and launch in many plataforms.

And besides your lack of understanding, you pretty much gave all reasons about why. I guess you never wanted a help to understand.

I don't even know what the new animal crossing is about or if it's good, and I visit gaf daily. I couldn't ignore ciberpunk if I tried.

What about Among Us?
Sucks that this is likely true, shit games are easy for people to follow I guess.

EDIT: Actually no, outside of its circles it ain't talked about as much and that is only because of content creators, Cyberpunk is however universal with it's discussions and everyone is picking up on it, hell my Uncle knows fuck all about games and he text me saying "you get this Cyberpunk game I'm hearing about?"

People on multiple platforms were waiting for Cyberpunk for a long time. So, there was lots of hype around it. What are you expecting here? Some people like one, some the other, and some both. Animal Crossing will continue to be a smash success even without validation by everyone.

Data is incomplete currently, the damn thing only launched the other day, but it's looking like Cyberpunk is the hottest.

The world is much bigger than GAF, or the gaming press. But let them have their hype cycle. Meanwhile my kids are still refining their island and I've enjoyed dropping back in to see the holiday activities.

nobody I know owns animal crossing

nobody I know talks/talked about animal crossing

nobody I know cares about animal crossing

almost all gamers I know bought cyberpunk 2077, talk and care about it

nintendo games dont count, they are almost like mobile games, simple and repetitive. if they count, then shitty mobile games count too and some have super big audience

games sold != game is good/worth it/quality

Huh? I don't get your aim here.
I'm asking if the other game sold more than Genshin as people brought it up here. It was the werewolf game right?

A giant market doesn't count because I don't fuck with it.

Amazing.

I stand corrected. Daniel J's circle of fewer than twenty friends are the real experts here.

Define 'biggest'.

Most sales?
Most profit?
Most social media?
Most streams?
Most concurrent players?

...point being, there's no such thing as one 'biggest' game. There are several.

Really? I think it has been talked about by most of GAF, unlike Animal Crossing. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing is talked about by millions of people who have never heard of Cyberpunk. :pie_thinking:

Because Cyberpunk appeals more to the average gaming forum going person.
The 8 years old kid and 65 years old grandma playing this aren't posting on GAF.

Pokemon GO had its biggest year yet and made over $1 billion in 2020.You don't see people posting about like crazy either.
Roblox is a $1billion + franchise and it's not like we have an active OT for it.

I mean, I gave examples of different people talking about Animal Crossing. A lot of people who usually do not play games were playing Animal Crossing.

I did not see this variety on people talking about Cyberpunk.

Animal Crossing is a really hardware pushing game and launch in many plataforms.

And besides your lack of understanding, you pretty much gave all reasons about why. I guess you never wanted a help to understand.
?

Dude, don't be mad only because a colorful game made more success than your favorite game of the year. I asked an honest question. Games are not my main hobby and I do not think about games 24 hours per day.

Yeah, my GF who can't be further away from video games made some joke about Cyberpunk being released in a buggy state.

The game has hit critical mass for sure

lol.

Where this pasta comes from?

Real talk though my non gamer family/coworkers asked me this year about the ps5 and AC.

It was weird.

You've skewed the results here by adding "New Horizons" to Animal Crossing, which the vast majority of searchers did not do. Most searchers don't add the "2077" to cyberpunk either.

Do that and the results are very different (same trends, just much larger for AC), and show just how big AC was. I'm at my work machine so I can't post a screenshot.

More people are definitely talking about CP. It had massive hype and even more massive disappointment with the state of the game especially on consoles

Coft... Coft... TLOU2... Coft.
lol

You gotta be kidding.

As I said in your thread, Animal Crossing reached more people than Last of Us 2 will ever reach.
Animal Crossing is the inslusive game, being played by people of all genders, colours and beliefs. The Last of Us tried to be this, but failed. People only talked about this game again after some controversy last week. The talks about Last of Us died just one mont after the release.

Incoming trainwreck of a thread, from all participants.

Just enjoy fun stuff and don't worry about who's playing what. Like someone said, the biggest game of the year is probably some mobile or F2P thing you would absolutely despise, anyway.

Nah, you don't see many people talking about it nowadays, politicians using it and etc.

It sold bonkers, and will keep on selling well, but its not like Cyberpunk in terms of discussion or hype

I have been unable to be in the internet for more than 5 minutes before seeing something related to Cyberpunk.
There's a guy here in Brazil named Marcos Jeeves thats Keanu's double. Identical. He became a meme, so the game kinda exploded in popularity here.

Your argument is that Animal Crossing is bigger because more people talk about it. So, you're upset that everyone is talking about Cyberpunk when it isn't as big?

Your logic is difficult to follow.

AC I am sure is a great game but games like this just do not appeal to me. It's like comparing Frozen to a Tarantino movie. Completely different worlds.

Nunca sequer ouvi falar nesse cara.

No.
Toys and things can't make me upset or angry.

I mean, for me, both are crap.
When I think about quality moves, I don't think about north-american ones.
