Contactless Delivery

So I'm ordering Dominos for us tonight because we're being lazy as fuck, and this pop-up appeared to inform me that it will be a Contactless Delivery.

Seems excessive but ok, I get it. Only thing is: this never happens - we still exchange the money and food by hand. The only thing that has changed pre-COVID and now is that we wear masks when making the exchange.

So my question is: do your local restaurants/fast food/etc. require contactless delivery as well? Do they actually adhere to it or is it just lip service, as it always seems to be in my case?

It depends on the driver. There's one guy who delivers Dominos that has the pizzas sitting by the door, and is at the end of the driveway waving by the time I get there. There's another one who just stands there until I open the door and he wrestles the pizzas out of his bag.

Funny you mention Domino's. My home is outside of their delivery area, so I ordered through their app, last summer when COVID was at its worst here, and went into town to pick it up. The app said that contactless was required and I was to stay in my car and call them when I got there. I pull up and call them, the guy on the phone tells me it's stupid and to come in. I walk up and the manager literally screams at me to go back to my car or she's calling the cops for trespassing. I sit there and wait for 10 minutes after which I call and ask to speak with the manager. She told me that she threw it out and that they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone they feel are being unsafe and told me to leave.
On a related note: I don't ever think I'm going back to Domino's again.

This is my experience 100%

I kind of really judge a delivery place (chains) on whether they ignore this shit anymore. Like, come on man. Just toss the food on the porch and text me, I'm good. I don't need face to face time with or without a pandemic.

Also gives my kid a responsibility to go out and get the food.

I pretty much exclusively do DoorDash and Uber Eats so they're generally much better at leaving shit and going same with Amazon prime. I usually just put my ID on the doorstep too for alcohol deliveries and they just scan and go.

I ordered doordash and paid for it online. Doorbell rings and the guy is standing there with no mask and hands me the food.

This was at the beginning of the pandemic so I'm like so much for contact less delivery.

I call door dash and tell them what happened. They apologized and gave me $30 credit to order free food. Made my week.

My local domino's doesn't accept cash and the delivery drivers use these little cardboard plinths to put the pizza on, whereas my local Chinese only accept cash and hand you your food.

Every single place I've ordered from the last year puts it on the doorstep and leaves. It is actually something that I hope continues after all this is over as Trying to small talk with idiot burn out 20 year olds for 20 seconds was one of the most awkward things ever. They never understand my jokes 🥺

Over the past year I have ordered food probably 50-100 times. Only ONCE has the delivery person actually handed me the food. They just drop it off and take a picture. Actually kind of prefer that to the akward social interactions that occasionally pop up.

Yeah, it's 100% the latter in my case. No one adheres to their "contactless delivery" mandate, but then again I'm paying cash so I guess it's inevitable lol

Wow, talk about an overreaction on her part. And yeah you're not missing much from Dominos. We were just too lazy to make anything last night lol

Wow, so they actually do the pizza pedestal thing in some places. Interesting!

Anyway, it seems I made a grave error in making this thread because I forgot to mention that I pay with cash 95% of the time, so that explains why most drivers haven't adhered to the Contactless mandate. But those few times that I didn't pay cash, they still didn't adhere to it so... I don't know.

the only deliverys i get that are contactless are from Amazon. they always drop the parcel at my door and run away. once i come to the door they stand and give me a (y)

takeaway places always stand at the door, no mask or gloves, and hand over the grub.

I deliver pizza, at my store people can choose contactless if they want. And trust me, if it says contactless I'm putting it down and walking away. Most the time I'll stop where I can see the food being grabbed by the customer, but I'm trying to leave asap. If no one grabs it in a minute or so I'll go back and ring/knock and I'm leaving after that. Contactless mostly speeds up my process

They drop it off and ring the doorbell. A few will sit in the car until I answer.

UPS, Fedex, amazon, etc always just leaves it on the porch

Contactless delivery is probably going to be an option going forward once covid is past us all.
It's pretty nice to have the driver just ring ring the doorbell, leave the food, and then give a quick text delivery confirmation.

Maybe in those apartment situations where you have to buzz people into the building I would want to go and get from the driver direct.

I think contactless delivery is better why is it you can get a contactless Amazon order but not a contactless food order?

Yeah that doesn't happen here. (Texas) I do contactless delivery whenever I am able and they almost always adhere to it. The once or twice it hasn't happened I reminded them and they were cool about it. Though I never pay in cash because I never have cash so that may affect my experience a bit.

So 99% of the time they just ring the bell and leave it at the door or I get a text letting me know its waiting for me.

I put out a table by the door thinking they would place the food on it, but most of the time they still just hand it to me. Which I am fine with. I put the table out for them so they wouldn't have to bend over so much to drop off food and items.

Because most amazon shit you order can sit outside for days with no problems , food can't.
What your going to eat a frozen pizza, and who says you cant get a contactless food order , damn bots.

As for the OP I have yet to get a food order delivered to my home since the pandemic started, shit I probably haven't had a food delivery in over 5 years. I actually know how to cook good , fast and efficiently without making a huge mess.

I live in a flat so leaving stuff in front of the building wouldn't work. It depends on the company, but with most delivery services not much has changed since the pandemic tbh. The package or the order is still delivered by hand, delivery guys just don't expect you to sign or wait to check if everything's right with the order. One thing I should note is that I always pay online upfront so there's no actual human contact needed to exchange cash.

Why is this some kind of revelation a whole year after the pandemic started?
Who said it was a revelation? You know what they say about people who assume...

I made the thread to kill time before the delivery but it arrived quickly, hence the reason why I didn't reply to my own thread for over 12 hours. :)

delivery expert.
Yeah that one gets me too lol

Anyway, based on the replies, it seems that the majority of folks ARE actually adhering to Contactless protocols. But I should have asked to state whether you lived in a home/building/etc. Oh well - like I said, the thread was made on a whim so who cares really lol

What I never got is pre-tipping when doing orders.

How the fuck should I know how much to tip? Could be an awesome delivery driver, could be a piece of shit that ate a slice, I don't know! And also w/ pre-tips, it gives them no incentive because they already got their tip.

I hand are delivery guys the money, or tip whenever they show up. I don't even wear a mask because I'm a rebel.
