I love Housemarque games. Have 100% trophies in Resogun including DLC. Funny enough, I haven't played their new games after that.

Will try this out, but the $70 tag is scaryville.
 
If this gets good (85+ MC) reviews I will buy it for €80, gameplay and aesthetics is definitely up my alley. If it gets mediocre reviews I will probably wait for a sale a couple of years down the line.

I would have picked it up day 1 but I refuse to purchase any game for $70 .. I'll pick it up this fall if reviews are good.

Problem for me is that dev has never made a game worth more than 30 dollars. I'm not just going to give them 70 bucks sight unseen.
 
Does it have gold in the disc? $70 for some game from an indie developer that only made $20-$30 games in the past, even though this is published by Sony seemingly negating the indieness of it, seems nuts!

I won't be getting it day one, but not because of the price. Too many other games I'm still playing or that will be releasing around that time.

Will definitely pick it up later in the year though.
 
Really looking forward to this - have got an immense amount of playtime out of Housemarque games in the past. Their tight gameplay is something for others to really aspire for.
 
Nice. Even though I am not going to hype this game before it launches and is being reviewed it is great that we are finally get some more next gen exclusive games!

I'm not sure enthusiast forums are the best barometer for cost because according to them every game should be included free in a $1 subscription plan, sold for 75% off the MSRP by a questionable key reseller, or purchased in Turkish Lira for the equivalent of $.79 USD.

Pretty interested in this, but I think I'm gonna wait for a price drop before biting. Curious to see more of it in action as well!

Glad you agree. Just because a game is made by an independent developers doesn't mean it isn't worth 70$. Alot goes into justifying the price point other than whether or not the developer is independent or not.

Returnal doesn't really look like a bottom of the barrel budget game. But that's just my opinion.
 
I already pre-ordered Resident Evil 8 for $10 less than this game.

I'll get it on sale. I am curious how it reviews. There are very few 3D shmups with fully movable camera. It's not clear if it'll be a mess or not since you can get shot from all directions. Also not clear if the story is any good considering its the studio's first story in a game basically. Also not clear how long it takes to feel repetitive. I'm very interested in how this turns out.

It's becoming harder to justify spending 70-80 bucks on a game when you played Gears of War 5 + all the dlc + Hivebusters for free at launch. Or The Medium. And when you know that Stalker 2 is coming day one for free. Or when you have more free Xbox games to play than you external drive can hold. Sony will have to address this new reality or the only games that will sell for them considerably in the future will be God of War and whatever Naughty dog releases.

I think it says more about peoples lack of confidence in a fairly small indie developer going to AAA-production values

Some ppl really have no idea what indie actually means. The word just gets lumped together with a certain game size, budget or look.

I thought Outland was a brilliant game, and is my reason for seriously thinking about a day one purchase of Returnal. Nevertheless, I'll probably wait for reviews first.

If you say so. I'm no more likely to spend $70+ on a game now than I would have prior to GP, which is to say I wouldn't except in very rare circumstances.
