RIP Kentaro Miura (Berserk creator)

What took s long for the news to come out? This feels not real.
It's real. It's being reported at other news organizations here in Japan now. This happens more often then not in Japan on the reporting of deaths of some celebrities. It's not uncommon for deaths to not be reported in the news for weeks.

RIP way too young to go.

I have to admit I certainly prefer that sort of thing and allowing the family time to grieve and move on, than what happens mostly here in the west where you've got all sorts of paparazzis and trash rags eager to report on dead celebrities. And sometimes doing so before they died, or before their families know.

This sucks. This guy is a legend and nobody quite does what he did as well as him. One day Berserk is gonna get a big budget TV adaptation or movie and blow up. Sucks that he won't be here to see it. RIP.

RIP. This man created one of the best works in the fantasy genre.

Now we gotta find the Japanese equivalent of a Brandon Sanderson to finish his work.

Wow. This is terrible news. The loss of a legend. I don't know what to say really, it's so shocking and unexpected.

I can only hope that Berserk is able to get the Wheel of Time treatment is so rightfully deserves. It is truly a masterpiece and to leave it unfinished would be a great shame.

If he left notes and drafts of the script up to the ending I'd agree, if not I don't want anyone else touching the series.

I've got really mixed feelings about the idea of any continuation without Miura. I just don't trust anyone else with it. That's how close I hold this series to my heart.

He started training his assistants to be able to draw the manga without him years ago I read while he would write, that's why they released another side manga for them to practice on.

Question is whether he left enough story points for them to be able to finish it and if he actually would have wanted for other people to finish his work without him.

I find this quite sad. Not only was he young, but an epic work that will not be finished....
I never thought it would be finished just like hunter x hunter.

and again RIP Kentaro Miura. I liked your anime, well except the end. I also enjoyed your manga in the beginning.

What the FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

I read Berserk in 2006, it was the gateway Seinen manga, I made friends through it, a guy who got me to join GAF got me to read it back on the MSN groups all them years ago before scans websites were common. Remember them Dragon Slayer scans? Fucking hell.

Countless members on GAF read this manga, it meant so much to people but since they got on the boat the manga wasn't the same and the end game looked so far from sight. I said to a friend in 2011 I'm worried Miura will die before he finishes Berserk and it fucking happens 10 years later. Jesus Fucking Christ.

While in recent years I think the mangas quality wasn't the same I wish we got to see it to the end, now it never will. What a waste. RIP King, your manga meant something to me and to many others, may you rest in peace despite your magnum opus ends unfinished.

We got to feel the sting first GRRM fans.

That arc isn't so bad if you aren't reading it as the chapters come out. Yeah they're giving Guts busywork while they deal with other characters, but they've been off the boat for a while now and felt like they were setting up for the end...

Horrific loss for his family, friends, manga, anime and the entire fantasy genre as a whole. Berserk and its author are both the stuff of legends.

Been reading Berserk since the late 90s, I've re-read it a few times (especially when we were on a long hiatus), so this stings quite a bit. Last time I felt this way was when Bud Spencer died as he was a huge part of my childhood.

I don't want anyone else to finish it. If he made notes and some story boards, I'd love to see that released instead, so we can fill in the gaps ourselves.

RIP Miura.

He was training artists to be able to take over for him but I doubt he really wrote it out in detail like that.

Even with his staff trained in his style, there's no one with his vision I mean the guy was a one of a kind talent.

Please listen to this and think of all the good times. I woke up to go for a piss and now I can't get back to sleep.

It's a shame Mista was banned too. 😔

Well that's convenient - I was just thinking of that song.

I got into Berserk when the anime debuted in the US back in 2002. Quickly became my favorite, and then I discovered the manga in 2006. And then that became like my favorite thing across any medium. Obviously, it sucks that it won't get any kind of ending, but what's out there is still incredible and immensely satisfying as it is.

Though I guess I should start picking up those giant hardcover omnibuses. Between the original volumes and these, this series takes up a lotta space.

He crafted such a brilliant creation. Every time I saw a great sword being used, I thought about Guts. I don't believe Berserk will ever be outdone. I feel like artists and storytellers will always be influenced by Berserk.

Devastating news for all, family, friends, and fans alike.

What he represented for creators and artists should forever be remembered.

I have a feeling this news might rally other manga writers and artists to try and finish his work, to honor him.

I still remember him talking about one of his friends of 10 years dying of Covid and how he couldn't attend his funeral and how this made him sad and lonely.

Fucking fuck man.

I can't even begin to imagine how devastated the fans, especially those who may have been managing to follow the saga for 30 years in total, are right now. Just trying to think of the presence this story has had on so many and influenced so much is staggering in its scope. I certainly can't say I've followed any particular story crafted to such an extent for such a long period of time. Certainly not one to the level of quality it took to draw the sheer amount of detail in those images.

One can get a bit philosophical thinking about the various outcomes. Even if Miura had somehow managed to plan for this and leave behind detailed notes and outlines for how to end it in the event of this happening, it still would never be the same. Creative works are often driven by what happens in the moment, how the creator feels, and all. And of course just the vision needed to execute them to one's planning and design. That simply cannot be replicated even with the best blueprint available.

Fuck this world.

RIP legend, I guess I'll have to just continue reading Berserk knowing there's no more waiting around for it to slowly come to its conclusion.

What a sad time to be alive.

I remember when Berserk was voted the best manga by GAF. Love the opening where he is plowing that demon chick. What a massive beast of an artist Miura was.

FUCK.... :messenger_loudly_crying: RIP. we lost a master of the art... may his family and friends are in peace with this.

sigh... another great manga that will never truly end, and instead live on in our heart.

Awful news, just straight up depressing. I'm not all that into manga or anime but this is one of the few I actually loved. Some of his characters were downright inspirational.

I'm not much of a religious guy buy if theres a heaven of any kind, he better be there.

RIP.
