Watched it last night. Very basic teen horror stuff (as expected given it's a RL Stine property) with your typical Netflix-mandated lesbian relationship drama throughout.

However, I will say that there is one REALLY awesome kill in the film: the bread slicer. That kill felt straight out of a Friday the 13th film

This one felt like more of a homage to scream, especially the opener. The next one being set at camp should be a lot more like Friday the 13th.
Interested to find out more about the other killers.
 
was kinda bored watching it but i'll wait for the rest to judge it fully.

i'm just pissed that Maya Hawke is in it and dies at the start. she should've been the main character.

Enjoyed this.

Took a lot of 90s horror cliches, and turned them on their heads. Similar thing to Stranger things in a lot of ways. Well written characters you actually got to like, and a huge amount of lore to play with. Also liked the way it switched up genres a lot.

Be interesting to see how they riff off Friday The 13th, after taking off Scream.

Oh don't get too excited, there is no nudity or anything of that sort lol... probably because the characters are supposed to be in high school (though the main actress is 26), as well as the fact that it's a RL Stine series.
 
Never heard of the books but this movie was a pretty good teen slasher-adventure film in its own right. I hope they can carry on or even improve the quality in the rest of the trilogy. It's not really a horror film so much as it is a Scream meets Cabin in the Woods for a new generation.

I'm looking forward to how this all plays out.
 
I don't know what to think. I enjoyed it but the netflix check marks were predictable which annoyed me, not as bad as America: Motion Picture.
 
This movie won me 10 bucks from my girlfriend. I told her a Netflix movie was never going to kill the 2 lesbians because woke people say that's a "trope" or something. She said I was going to be wrong. I got scared for a second at the end but cha chin, I'm 10 bucks richer!

I didn't make a bet but told her there will be some sort of LGBTQ involvement. She did not believe me. I told her Netflix is predictable.

Exactly, the whole thing was extremely predictable. I called most of the movie in the first act and knowing Netflix, that bet with my girl was the easiest money I've ever made. She wants to watch the next 2 movies in case one of the girls dies, she can get her money back. I doubt it lol.

Though I have to say the preview for the next one looks good. I got heavy Friday The 13 vibes.

I dropped it after about 20 minutes since I couldn't be bothered to follow the lesbo plot, only fast forwarded to that cool kill people were talking about.
 
I quite liked this movie. Definitely gave me 90's horror movie vibes which I much prefer than todays horror.

Might've been a little too supernatural for me as I was hoping for more of a Scream vibe fort his movie, but still a decent movie either way.
Hoping the next one gives me a Friday the 13th feel. Definitely looks that way.
 
I kind of enjoyed it. I was expecting a bit more. The lesbian relationship threw me off since I wasn't expecting that from something set in the 90s. I know it existed back then it just didn't expect it in the movie. I thought a bit more 90s nostalgia would be in the movie. Thankfully the start of the movie wasn't like the rest since I'm not good with scary movies.

Goosebumps and Christopher Pike books were the shit when I was a preteen!

Don't think I ever read a Fear Street but I remember seeing the covers all the time and being quite interested.

Wait if there was ever a Fear Street about Vampires then I definitely ready that!

I must have had / read at least 50 of these books when I was younger. The Fear Street Saga trilogy was the best of the bunch by my estimation:

I thought it was okay. Felt kinda Raimi-ish at points and serious at others. Tone was definitely all over the place. The lesbian stuff was boring, and predictable. Just a completely played out trope, but I guess they get an extra couple of clout points for LGBTQASEWD12 stuff. Kills were good and the characters were okay outside of the woke stuff.

Used to be lots of R rated movies set in high school with tons of nudity. American Pie was the end of that era. No one was worried an actual child would see it and explode.

I think the real issue is that netflix has a useless ratings guide (almost all of their TV-MA stuff is for swearing only) and can't or won't gate beyond the basic child account. Unlike the halcyon days of cable, they can't do "Cinemax after dark" style programming.
 
Just finished part 2 and it is amazing, even better than the first. Higher body count, sex, nudity, the full Friday the 13th treatment. However it is probably less gory overall, but it makes sense

to not show young children getting killed.
It was great to see
the origin of the bagman too.

Looking forward to part 3.

It takes a lot for me to get bored during horror movies but the first one at least was a slog.

It felt like it was written for pre teens but there was swearing and violence so I'm not sure who the target audience was and if the 18 certificate was only for show as it doesn't really matter on Netflix?

One great kill to be fair.

The main girl was really vile so not sure if I was supposed to be rooting for her but I wasn't. If that character was a guy with the same personality he would have been killed early on for being a vitriolic sex pest.

Maybe I was just expecting some kind of Sam Rami type affair due to the 18 certificate so probably my own fault for not doing any kind of research but it could have been PG with a couple of edits.

Also why was only the first 10 seconds of each song played? Bulk discount?

I mean there is great entertainment I'm completely focused on and then there's decent entertainment that is enjoyable while I'm working. This is the latter.
 
Watched part two. Needs a tighter edit, but other than that, pretty solid. I like that they're taking these played out slasher movie tropes and trying to create something with more lore behind it.

Also: seen some absolute fucking bellends moaning about how the women are all strong in this, and the men are either evil or useless, because 'Netflix is too woke'.

But the thing is the trope has drastically evolved. Sure it wasn't okay to have a constant premise of a 'damsel in distress' miraculously surviving, but it's also not okay to have all new movies about weak useless men and strong women leading the charge. The last Halloween flick was a good example of this with all the males dying (or not providing help) and the females ganging up on Myers in the finale on their own (and Laurie spending years on preparations lol).
 
I enjoyed the first 2. Interested in seeing how the 3rd one works out. I watch a shitton of movies, so this is pretty good for the genre. They feel like an 80s/90s horror films to me, which is nice, because it fits the time period of the first movie. So compared to other movies of that era, these feel like a solid Elm Street or Hellraiser outing. More gore than scares, but that's how slasher flicks were back then.

Don't care if they're lesbian or not.
They usually show that the character is lesbian and move on with the story, but now days they make a lesbian drama out of it when it's supposed to be a disaster movie
