BREAKING: Sony is acquiring Bungie for 3.6b

Same deal as Bethesda/Activision probably, any games that may have already been pitched/announced internally to the console makers as SKUs will probably get honored where contracted.

Anything new after that won't be multi-plat.

True. Or not "exclusive" to Playstation because PC is a different market. They could mean that too.

This is an insane reply by Sony, I love seeing this competition from both sides this gen, keep it going please!

yeah they sorted out a $3b deal in the space of 2 weeks as a reactionary measure.

jesus

You have no idea what Bungie have planned. Sony don't just throw cash away unless they see value in the purchase.

"...."

Whatever they have planned isn't even going to be exclusive the way things are going the industry isn't going to see value in Playstation as a viable platform

They are talking about Destiny 2. like... the logo is in the back ffs.

not everything else.
"
Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?
No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community."

I mean it makes sense since they won't be getting call of duty games eventually. But at that price they could of bought Sega for christ sakes. I would much rather Sony buy a Japanese publisher than an American developer at this point. They already have great American Studios.

What did people think was going to happen?

Once consolidation starts it takes on a life of its own because everyone gets wary of becoming outflanked by the opposition or having key properties pulled from their line-ups without warning. It becomes about protectionism.

Sony knows that Bungie no longer makes Halo right???
Sounds like they did this for headlines and the people who still think Bungie makes Halo.

Will be interesting to see if Sony shares future Bungie games with MSFT.
They would be smart to do it, because MSFT could say, okay no COD or other titles for you then.

So Sony now own the creator's of Halo....😂
That's Kinda funny
I don't care but it's still kinda funny 🤣

Seems like Sony obviously wants the stream of money Destiny and any new IP they create will bring in. This is particularly true if they are letting them stay independent and self-publish.

Its Sony's way of spreading across all platforms (to grow revenue), including Xbox, without necessarily having the Sony/playstation brand attached.

Given this, i think the next generation (used loosely unfortunately) will muddy the waters even more.

Destiny wasn't even that good... Bungie made the Halo games people consider good, but I was one of the sadists that preferred 4 and 5.

I'm not sure what tricks Bungie has up it's sleeves, followed up Halo with Halo with loot grind... it really seems like they just make Halo.

This one didnt age at all:
M MonarchJT
I said they have around 6 b to spend for the division in 3 years....they probably spend 2 years of investiment in one ....what's wrong with you?....3.6 are very very different from buying EA lol wake me up if they buy another studio / publisher for another 3b ..then moke me

This feels like Sony trying to stick it to MS than buying it because they want it.

Regardless, this is all so dumb. I want everyone to be able to play all games on all platforms(except first party titles).

I hate this new trend.

For Sony it's probably worth this much. They're in danger of literally having no FPS games. Counter offers probably jacked up the price.

That makes sense to me.

Basically the kind of counter move I'd expect from Sony losing CoD, also fills a big gap in their first party lineup (shooter and GaaS), and it is not that expensive either.

Also throws shade at MS in the process. I'm sure Sony is a bit different embarrassed bu recent MS acquisitions. MS losing Bungie again just throws egg back at their face

Microsoft and Activisions sloppy thirds for basically 4 billion dollars......for destiny?

Sony got fuxking played omg. How can you get all of zenimax and their ip for 7 billion but you only get destiny for 4 billion?

Shit is getting seriously spicy......Will Sony honour existing output and keep destiny on xbox?
The article suggests that Bungie will remain a multiplatform developer.

What does Bungie have? Destiny and....?

One IP and mediocre at best for 3.6B?!?!

Sony is rushing to counter MS move, but I believe this is a bad move

Bungie have got some serious balls and amazing staff that really fucking love their company and think its qorth some serious money to hustle almost 4 billion dollars out of Sony to still be independent.

I don't even understand this deal, it makes 0 sense to me.

Gotta respect bungies hustle though. Activision literally gave them away because destiny was such a money sink built on am engine with terrible tools that squandered content creation.

I really think Sony have messed up here. 3.6 billion is crazy.

Well that's disappointing from a competitive standpoint. I guess Sony is just looking at the revenue portion of it to slightly offset the eventual loss of Activision money.

On second thought, 3.6 billion is a lot for a single studio and single IP. Destiny is no Minecraft.

Seems like a panic buy for 1 studio with only 1 relevant IP that will still be multiplat and their future games will be multiplat too lol.

PS and PC isn't Playstation exclusive ding ding? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Btw it would be nice if unlike Microsoft they did this not to damage a competitor but actually to try to make great games.

Gentle reminder to everyone that $3.6bn acquisition deals are not initiated and completed in 2 weeks.

While y'all were raving about consolidation and MS 'buying up the industry', Sony had been negotiating with Bungie for months.

These corporations are not your friends.

Wait did i read right? they'll keep their games multiplateforme? WTF why buy Bungie to keep games multiplat Sony has no fucking logic right WTF!!

Huge news and obviously a measured response from the potential to lose CoD

The issue though is the price tag and Bungie losing a lot of talent over the years and whether this is actually worth it

But what a response
