I love it when my favorite brands interact, it makes me rock hard

There is always that possibility that multi-platform is PS5, PC, and Mobile via streaming in this context. I wouldn't read much into it until actual releases happen. Just like with Activision, where continued multi-platform support is implied, yet specific years and projects are still referenced directly which could be telling.

When this much money is involved I just dont think its likely that they wont step on each others feet, Microsoft wants to be the "Netflix of gaming" which threatens the PlayStation business. Theres just no other way to put it, consumers have a limited amount of money to spend on gaming.

source? trying to just figure it out. I also am interested in profitability.

I think the other thing that's interesting is that IP-wise, think Bethesda easily beats Bungie.
Bethesda financial statement and analyst estimate for Bungie.

Bethesda does have a lot of IPs but how much are they earning with those IPs are far more valuable than having a lot of IPs. A single game like Fortnite is printing more money for Epic than all their other IPs combined ever did. That's how stupidly successful a single IP can be. The same applies to IPs like Minecraft for Microsoft and Fate Mobile game for Sony which are money printing IPs.

Great move by Sony, screw the naysayers. With Halo and Destiny Bungie proved they have what it takes to create great, appealing gameplay-driven online FPS, something Sony lacks so much. Which makes me wonder if the said new IP will be yet again the exact same gameplay in different setting, or will they try to spice things up? Because you know what they say - if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

I just don't get the part where Bungie remains independent and self-published? Like, what's the point of the acquisition then (other then direct profits from sales)?

TBF Microsoft has a lot of cash they want to use, so the more they can use in a single purchase, the better.

Think it has something to do with taxes, why they want to offload some of their cash-on-hand so big purchases like Activision-Blizzard make sense considering it does that and gets them a lot of IP & resources with it.

You think it has anything to do with Inflation in America going up? Which will cause interest rates to go up too?

Goos buy, 3.6 billion for a single publisher means they made them an offer they cant refuse. Bungie going to be in for a rude awakening when they find out their games will not be multiplatform tho. I'm not buying that they are.

Depends on how big their next IP is. Xbox wanted to buy Bungie, but they didn't want to sell to them previously. Their new game might very well be something that aims to dethrone CoD.

Problem w/ that is Bungie isn't even made up of the same team as it once was in it's glory days. In similar fashion as Rare. They still put out out good stuff just no where near the capability to even begin to try and bargain w/ MS when they have all the major FPS's via Bethesda/Activision, COD included, in their pocket now.

Seems like they did this to slightly offset eventual revenue losses. Nothing more, nothing less. Revenue wise, it's a good move which is pretty much all Jimbo cares about these days.

Meh. Not really. I mean what did they exactly get with Bungie for 3.6 billion. Destiny anddddddddd?
Who knows. Their last game was Destiny 2 in 2017.

I'm going to assume that got a big game or two secretly in the works ready to launch soon (Destiny 3?) because I dont see how they could be lasting 5 years doing nothing but Destiny 2 and DLC.

They should have gone after Square Enix. This move makes no sense to me other than actually have a multiplayer shooter in their portfolio. Bungie today is not the same as Bungie in the 2000s under MS.

To people saying it's a panic or rushed buy, how long do you think it takes to put together a deal worth a few billion?

If you live in the real word, these things are rarely straightforward and rushing is the last thing you want to do.
Lol activision deal was drafted in october and finalised in the middle of jan.

This is almost the same price as Konami, Capcom, SE and SEGA, WTF Sony are doing bro holy shit

WHY BUNGIE, just WHY FFS, SMH

Sega has Sammy above them Konami has pachinko, toys and anime, Capcom makes way to much money going multiplat and there best selling games for the past 2 years have been on PC and switch, SE is not selling out to sony they have as much pull as disney does in the states plus they got a toy line, anime studio investments, pachinko phone games and multiple liceneses to tons of other stuff.

The hell you know about Sony budget for such acquisitions lol please
Their revenue and cash information is public info. For sure Sony didn't have $68.9B in cash sitting in the bank to buy another company and financing a deal to buy a company at worth half of Sony's market cap in cash probably wasn't happening. Especially with as conservative as Sony tends to be. It's not really that far of a stretch to say Sony doesn't have the same video game company acquisition budget as Microsoft.

I still go back to that you can't buy a company that's not for sale. Actiblizz was looking to sell. Is Ubisoft/ea etc. looking to sell? I doubt it. They're trucking along just fine.
The fact is that we don't know who is in for sale but it was never the point, if they are available for being sold, M can just pay more if both parties make an offer.

Just let Killzone die. Nostalgia with it trying to be the Halo killer. However, it was a mediocre title at best.
Its a cool series that was unique from halo. Shadowfall was lesser because it got away from the oppressive, gritty war torn atmosphere of the first 3 titles.

Konami may not be able to anymore because they drove every competent dev out of the company, but they at least have IP that's great for multiplayer experiences like Bomberman and Momotaro Dentetsu from Hudson Soft (RIP

And I don't buy the idea that Sega can't make a good multiplayer game with their long history of making, well, multiplayer arcade games. I mean heck their most popular arcade title was Daytona USA, which had a 8-player max. Sega is in fact probably one of the strongest third-party choices for that sort of thing.

Bungie made Halo and Destiny dude ....

Their talent is worth more than those old IP IMO

Phil is a straight Chad .... :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Exactly. Singing Kumbaya probably doesn't net you much more than last place. It's a very competitive space, not just in dollars but in time. Any time spent on another platform, is time not spent on yours and the $$ that go with that.

Ok so now it's the war about who has more cash for acquisitions? It's that the point?

Now things are getting interesting. I don't like this at all though but MS basically forced Sony to make a move.
This is a terrible move from Sony, they have paid 3 billion on a studio that's on a downward curve, I don't understand it to be honest 😕. Getting Activision is comparable to atomic bomb going off in the industry. Acquiring Bungie is the equivalent of letting off a firework in your back yard.

Great move by sony. Microsoft own halo, doom, overwatch, and call of duty. Leaving playstation with only battlefield and apex. With bungie they will have a prime fps studio.
