The best selling "videogames" on Amazon are 10 dollar gift cards and 1 month PS+ cards. A ton of people can't afford to pay anything upfront, so they spend 10 bucks a month. Being poor is expensive, always has been.

We're talking about the super premium tier for $120 annually, not the basic tier and not gift cards. I can understand (but not condone) people who just want to play games online paying $10 a month if that's all they can afford, but those people probably shouldn't be looking to almost double that to play hundreds of old games.

I'm not interested in racing games and Halo Infinite thought gameplay is fucking awesome, has no content to keep me there. I have been literally playing Returnal again recently with their update and its like crack again.

If they are going to bring games like that to service on top of some deals they do for Third party. I feel in terms of quality, PS has for me the more interesting catalog for a subscription service.

Until Microsoft get's their studios in check, they will be relying on Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard. And its still going to be a year or so before we even see those games on the service. ANd out of all the brands from Activision, I only care about COD. Which I buy the ones I think are good. Which last one I did buy was Modern warfare. My friends bought be Vanguard, and I literally stopped playing after a week.

If you want quality you pay for it. But it still is cheaper and gives you more access with middle tier than a year of Gamepass Ultimate.

I honestly don't care what it costs them, just what I get.

At least here in Europe there is only available the opttion to get 1 month of PS Now for $9.99, which is the same deal you'll get by buying a year of PS+ Premium. With the difference that until the new tiers get released right now you have to buy PS+ separatedly.

Have people never heard of redeemable codes/cards? Just buy a 12 month one.

- Boosting of older titles
- PS3 emulation
- Discussion of major third-party titles at launch
- Promise of building first-party library (instead of the "refreshed" one they're mentioning, which certainly means first party titles for limited time frames, as is currently the case on PS Now)

PS3 emulation is the only thing that is really concrete in that list and that is/was never going to happen.

Gamepass if it were all it's supporters make out around already be at 100 million+ subs as it would be too good for pc owners to ignore. The reality is so far from this viewpoint though, I think some of you need to get your heads checked.

Where some overplay it, is that it doesn't contain the vast amount of Sony first party games, so people who buy into PS ecosystem are not going to jump ship without them.

People buy PS for those games, and still continue to buy games on the PS up to 3 to 1 for third party, and their first party is practically 10 - 20 to 1 in contrast now.

"But Game Pass has day 1 MS games!" And that is good for them, but what does that do for the PS gamer? Exactly.

That's possible. But we do know Microsoft is making gains in hardware sales in North America and Europe, so you'd expect GP subscriptions to continue to rise pretty swiftly.

I think the moment we'll know the contours of the next 5-10 years of competition will be when a COD title launches on Game Pass. I would expect a huge spike in subs if, in 18 months, Game Pass and COD are synonymous.

Gamepass Ultimate, the one that also includes Gold, is $180 yearly tho, as it doesn't offer a yearly option on their store. It's literally $60 cheaper than Gamepass Ultimate.

Also, why would you pay it monthly when it offers you an annual option? Microsoft should follow suit and offer a discounted yearly option tbh.

People have already criticized MS for devaluing gaming with Game pass. Why would they lower the cost of the service further seeing it is already doing things no one else is with day one new game releases? Plus isn't it only a $1? Can't get much cheaper than that.

They already dipped their toes into Day 1 games with Shadow Warriors 3. They're pushing to double their revenue from first-party games by 2025. They want 10 live service games running by 2026. If Sony decides they need to begin doing Day 1 releases on a regular basis, they will be positioned to do so thanks to their efforts now and over the next few years. The streamlining of their services now was the first step.

I love Playstation, I really do. But I really believe the industry is reaching an inflection point where it will start to change into something very different within the next five to ten years. And Sony has shown few signs of being open to change.

I'm not Michael Pachter - they're not going to die or anything. But this ho-hum rollout seems at odds with Jim Ryan's stated goal of dramatically expanding the video game market. With Microsoft throwing money around, and other tech giants eyeing the pie, they simply need to be more aggressive in my view.

But still Playstation doesnt give you games day to date, but they give you local downloaded games for PS5,PS4,PS2 PS1 PSP. And even at the second tier there are currently more games available than whats on Gamepass. Just not stuff thats day one outside of titles like Shadow warrior 3, and PS+ titles that might debut.

Playstation and Xbox are going at this two different ways. Time will tell on which one is the best way forward. I think Sony has done the better job of offering you options that cater to all ready sub people or people who just want to just play online.

You still get games on top of all ps+ benefits.

Word is still out on what they launch with for PSP,PS1,PS2 games.

They aren't going to be on the store. If you want a good idea of what games will be there, check the games that are already available on PS3 in your region.

I don't see anything that leads me to believe Microsoft doesn't have their studios in check. They just need to get the games out. The reliance on Bethesda, Activision, etc. is what makes the future of Gamepass so interesting.

I'm hoping this move by Sony at least gets Microsoft to include online play in console gamepass. $240 per year to be able to play many hundreds of games sounds great to me.

It depends on how frequent they add/shuffle games to the service but for people who don't care about buying games day 1 then 99$ a year for up to 400 games is not a bad deal. That's less than 2 full priced games.

This changes nothing for me since they left PS+ alone. I think no "day one" is a legitimate complaint but nobody should have been expecting that based on Sony's stance. Maybe the PS3 games still streaming? Again, nobody should have been expecting that since it is obviously a hardware limitation.

This was a smart move by Sony. They didn't rock the current boat, opened up revenue opportunities and combines sub numbers.

Good reason or not, PS3 emulation isn't happening. And it wouldn't be game changer regardless. Did Xbox 360 BC move the needle for Xbox One? Not a bit. Game streaming is the big "game changer" according to a lot of folks so why put so much effort into emulation?

I don't think the industry is changing as much you think it is. Make great games people want to play. Do that and however you want to get people pay for it, whether subscriptions or buying outright, then they will do it. No one is going to boycott GTA 6 if it isn't part of a subscription.

Hot take: Sony now makes almost $1B/quarter of revenue with their game subscription and will increase a lot with Spartacus.

Assuming PS+ will have 50M subs at Spartacus release (will be more since they are in a growing trend), if they pay now $59.99/year (assuming 100% of PS+ pay the yearly fee, which isn't the case as Jimbo said today) and 25% of them upgrade to $99.99/year PS+ Extra tier, that would mean a revenue increase of $500M/year.

That would be with only 25% converting, with none converting to Premium and only paying the best deal (yearly sub). And considering that the new offering wouldn't attract new subbers. Pretty likely they will have made almost $4B this FY from game subs, and Spartacus may generate them an additional yearly $1B.

The thing is that if you were to buy a couple of Microsoft games a year, you are better subscribing to Gamepass. If you want to play day one PlayStation games and get access to those other games you will be paying the service in addition to those 70$ games.

Don't really care for old games, everything really worthwhile has already been remade/remastered. I already have most of the PS4/5 games that I really wanted, so the new stuff library is not really useful for me.

The only thing that could motivate me to subscribe would be getting Day One launches for exclusives or third party stuff.

In the nicest way possible, I wish I was this naive, because it's also what I want. But they haven't waited 8.5 years to put your purchased PS1 classics on the modern store JUST as they roll them into their highest tier of subscription service. Not gonna happen. They're paywalled behind everything else to get you in for good reason.

That goes against how they operate their databases with their storefront. They can't just put the data on their servers and not have it be on the store. Thats money left on the table.

Do we though. Don't think that's the case in the uk. Maybe in America MS are claiming back some of what the one lost them.

Series X has been available on Amazon for about 2 weeks now here.

It's hard to draw conclusions based on this without knowing how many units MS shipped, but Sony have also shipped far more this month than previously with most outlets getting more than one shipment this month.
