Ten years since 'Dredd', where's our sequel?

Really great film. I think it never got a sequel because it didn't do great numbers.

Interestingly, I also heard the script for this film leaked and The Raid script writers ripped it off. Not sure how true that is.
 
It was almost as good as a Dredd movie could be and still didn't do well at the box office so I would imagine that's the reason.
 
Really liked this movie it definitely deserves a sequel and props too Karl urban for not being a petty actor about the helmet.

His partner in the movie was cute too
 
Karl Urban is 50 and Olivia Thirby is 35. There's still plenty of time, especially since Karl never removes the mask and can use a stunt double.
 
Pretty solid film in the Action department. Wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood is distancing themselves from Dredd and Punisher due to current political climate
 
I was genuinely surprised how good this movie was! I had 0 expectation, which helped. I'd be up for a sequel that played off the last ones strengths!
 
I really enjoyed this film and i didn't see it until i bought the Blu ray, a sequel would be good as long as the writing is as good.
 
I thought it was as perfect a movie you can make if the movie was just " a typical day in the life of Judge Dredd". It doesnt waste time explaining things and It just throws you right in and like a comic book everything is done visually. Like the slo-mo drug theres no explanation for what its effects are you just see it.

A sequel would be cool but i dunno how you can top the perfect pacing and mood of the first one.

This movie came out of nowhere for me. Expected it to be corny trash, but it turned out to be awesome. Had a visual level of violence that reminded me of the original Robocop movies.

Actually enjoyed it alot
 
They way I look at it, at least the character got one quality film. Leaving such a cult classic character with their only movie being that balled-up turd from Stallone would have sucked.
 
Great movie, can't believe it's been 10 years already. It really was underrated and deserved to have done better at the box office.

As others have said there was supposed to be a TV series in the works but who knows if that ever sees the light of day.
 
As a previous collector of 2000 AD,

I thought the film was brilliant, Stallone one he takes off his helmet. (For anyone that never read the comics, he never does).
 
Not everything needs a sequel. I understand where you are coming from. I loved part 1. But hopefully the minds behind that make something awesome a new.

how very dare you! the only film deserving of a sequel is Dredd ffs, the world that its set in is absolutely rife with lore and incredible stories, breaks my heart that we never got one to what is possibly one of the best modern proper action scifi flicks since the 00's
 
Dredd did like 40 million at the box office. Disney shat out ant man to the tune of 500 million box office. That's why we doing have a sequel. Audiences want MCU.

I loved this movie!! I would love a proper sequel, and NOT a low budget TV show.

Tron Legacy made 400m and never got another and imo it definitely deserved another.
 
Didn't make enough money. In this day and age it's a miracle in itself to even get a film like this in the first place, so sometimes we just gotta be happy with what we got. I agree though that it's a shame we didn't get a sequel.
 
I like this movie but I don't think Karl Urban is the ultimate Dredd like a lot of other people seem to. Maybe it's just the direction but his constant "pouty face" made it hard for me to take him seriously. I know he's drawn that way, but c'mon.

I do want to see a sequel though. Even by a new director. I just think the Dredd world is really cool.

Nope. What works on the comic page doesn't always convey the same effect on film.

Draw Wolverine in yellow spandex and he looks absolutely badass. Put Hugh Jackman in yellow spandex and it's going to look dumb.

Hmm, alright fair enough. Can't say I agree, at all in any capacity, but I get what you're saying. I personally think that the success of the Avengers flicks has proven that they could have gone with a much more comic faithful look than the edgelord black leather they went with and they still could have found box office success. I understand that sounds odd, but I do honestly believe that the Wolverine could have looked rad with the right comic costume if the costume was made correctly. Obviously not spandex, but perhaps a more utilitarian kind of material and look, somewhat like the new Batman flick's look, with the comic colors and patterns definitely could have worked, or at least that's my opinion.

In general, I prefer when the comic adaptations veer more on the side of faithful then not, but I can see why a lot of people disagree and that's fine.
 
Netflix could easily fund a sequel that would cost less than 100 million, but nah they gotta spend 400 million on Red Notice and Grey Man and 500 million on Rian Johnson.

I believe it's all in the execution and it's all subjective. I just couldn't snap myself out of focusing on his pouty face. In my mind, he didn't need to do that to convey that the character is a hardass. But that's just my opinion, obviously.

I agree completely about Wolverine's costume. I want to see something more faithful and I think there is a way it can be done…but it's hard for me to imagine it.

It's harder to justify in live action. Like okay, he is hiding his identity, but why the pointy ears?
Again, I think it can be done, but I'm fresh out of ideas on how. Maybe the militaristic thing like you mentioned but idk
