100% willing to see what they come up with. Why not? Shit's been dead for a bit. Maybe doing something dark is his comeback after Thor got panned so hard for excessive comedy. Guess we'll see. Ragnarok was at least decent and his Mandalorian episode was good.

He's not terrible, but somehow went full retard with the last Thor movie and I don't think he's the right person for a Dredd movie. Well maybe one like that Stallone... thing...

Hunt For the Wilderpeople and Jojo are great, but Taika is immensely annoying and when he misses he really misses. He also seems completely unsuited to Dredd.

We had a great take on Dredd in the 2012 movie, why oh why did no one capitalise on that? I'd have been down with a Trilogy of movies, a limited TV show and a videogame all based on that.

It made back its budget on basically no marketing (and what there was was poor), was released next to other bigger movies and at the worst time of year. But it performed very well on home video and streaming, built a strong following and did well critically. There was something to build on there if they handled it well.

The last Thor movie was absolutly horrible. Don't have much faith in this. Some directors blossom when they get recognized and achieve creative freedom, while others need a guiding hand to steer them away from their worst inclinations.

I don't mind Taika, but he's not a good fit for this, and all of us pretty much want DREDD 2012 expanded upon. It's like Sleeping Dogs, we're being punished for letting it bomb.

I'm sure he realizes the character and setting of Dredd are meant to be grounded and gritty. Whether or not he can actually pull off a similar tone as in the 2012 film is up in the air, but I would be genuinely surprised if he tried to inject a bunch of stupid comedy bits into it. No producer would ever want to approach him for any remotely serious film ever again.

Exactly.

If he wants to be taken seriously, this movie should be considered his redemption arc.

Why no make dredd earlier with urban?
Why no make fury road sequel?
Why no make the fucking sequel to die another day?!? What the fuck Hollywood; tom cruise isn't gonna live forever. The angel of verdan needs to kill again.

The fuck?!?

Did Edge of Tomorrow/Live Die Repeat have a different title where you're from?
Or did Tom Cruise make a James Bond movie that I don't know about?

Come on, you think he can resist the dystopian authoritarian mocking potential of Dredd?

Can't say this sounds particularly exciting.
But maybe Taika will be willing to step outside of his comfort zone and actually make a more serious and gritty movie.
He can pull a reverse Gorge Miller.

I don't know man.
The book doesn't have a sequel and I don't really trust modern hollywood to make a good original story. The movie took a lot of liberties, but at least they still had a solid blueprint to work from.

Then again, Tom Cruise actually seems to care about the legacy of his characters being respected. So if he is producing I guess it could turn out ok.

Since everyone is throwing out popular names, my choice would be Chris Hemsworth. He's worked with Taika before. This would redeem the both of them for a serious movie.

Just make it Extraction 3 but in the Judge Dredd universe.
