[CNBC] Phil Spencer: We are not putting a pause on acquisitions. Also not raising console prices.

Bethesda was a multiplatform studio prior to acquisition.

I shouldn't need to explain a fact like this.

Team Ninja is a multiplatform studio. They've just announced a PlayStation exclusive game that's a new IP.

I shouldn't need to explain how it isn't uncommon for multiplatform studios to make exclusive games.

Yay! Now let get the series x on shelves
Damn. Xbox Series X is very easy to get here in Sweden.

This is from Webhallen (stock count in all their physical stores)

Edit: Price 5695SEK (~us$530)

It's like people boasting about not smoking.
That bad thing there? I am good because I don't do it.
It's petty and Phil is just embarrassing
"are you raising the prices like your competitor has?"

"We're always evaluating our position and so I can't say never, but we have no plans to raise our console prices"

"What an embarrassment"

They asked him the question, what should his answer have been?

You want a CEO to talk to you plainly like is your best friend from the block. How delusional are you guys? When he says he want games to be available to more people, he clearly talks about devices where their services are available (gamepass/xcloud). You don't really think that means the games should be on any existing devices that can run games? They should also be on the fridge that runs Doom? Is pathetic to cling on these declaration literally.

I love the interviewer. U can tell he is a gamer by these hardcore questions.

However Phil.. like a snake... Didn't answer any question lol. The guy asks him something and Phil replies something not even related.
Interviewer tries again asking the same question but in a different way and Phill still in different world.

Interviewer: "are you going to follow Sony's lead and raise xbox prices"

Phil: "No we won't raise prices"

//DEVIL// //DEVIL// : Damn, that's a completely unrelated answer.

'Bitch eating crackers' vibes in every Phil Spencer thread. And this one is no exception

guys, Phil says he wants to reach more gamers...

people who only play on PlayStation aren't gamers, so check mate! he doesn't take any games away from gamers, only from casual plebs

Why are you even responding to his nonsense?
You're absolutely right, I just can't get over the ridiculousness of some of the arguments around here.

I love the way this forum reports news, I just wish people would play the ball, not the man, and some people apparently never will.

Isnt this the same as Sony protecting the gamers, but only those that play on playstation?

I'm sure you'll tell me why it's different somehow, and reasons.

it's me or the gloves are off between sony's and MS' PR?

I'm just jokingly calling everyone who is a single platform player a casual, while a gamer would have multiple/all systems... it wasn't meant to be any deeper than that 🙃

TbH MS and Nintendo let Sony get away with a lot of bullshit, it's about time they start calling them out.

All it took was Sony acting like a victim.

This just feels like thinly veiled platform warring with the relentless dissection of the most innocuous statements.
Yes. And that's all it has ever been. The fanboys and shills here never make sense when they sit in their sandbox throwing pebbles at the guys in the other sandbox, it's like watching my kids fight over toys.

The most hilarious reaction is when they try to find negative things to say about not increasing prices. Like imagine having that thinking if Nvidia or Intel or Apple would say they won't increase prices.

But good guy Phil is doing his usual thing talking in riddles as always, he's either dodging like a master Souls gamer or he simply don't have a direct answer to the questions and don't know how to say that. It's getting a bit annoying tbh.

He didn't do any of that here. You are doing what you accuse others of doing in this thread

Interviewer: But with Bethesda you removed Starfield from PlayStation

Phil: we want to reach the most gamers, you can go to Xbox .com and stream it

Durrrr, it's not exclusive, you see? Just play it on the cloud

And PC… with eventually an attempt to be embedded in every TV for streaming and hell, probably even Nintendo's next handheld for some titles, but Sony?

Once he's finished crushing PlayStation into the dirt there is certainly a place in politics for this guy......he has got that politicians thing of lying to your face and not giving a single shit that he knows you know he's lying, lol.

Everyone says he's lying, but nobody can point out the lie he said.

It's fun to watch.

I'd say he was just as vague as always. Try writing down his answers. Lots of words but what did he actually say if you boil it down to yes/no answers?

No prices aren't changing

Yes we want to reach lots of gamers

Yes we are still looking at buying more companies.

I can't remember the other questions.

That or selling used cars.

While I don't support his talk to the press (tbh I don't give a shit), it does make sense what he's saying, but without sending shots in any direction.

So many edgy fanboys in here says "hur due Phil doesn't believe in consoles he's a liar."

Everyone on this forum says everyone would buy a ps5 because of the great exclusives, and Microsoft doesn't have any games.

Just because Spencer doesn't believe in exclusives, hes still forced to do it,because if Microsoft didn't have any exclusives, then there won't be a reason to buy an Xbox over a ps5.

If you could get Halo, Forza and so on on playstation, yet couldn't get any playstation games on xbox, then no one would buy an Xbox, plain simple.

In before some crap head says xbox exclusives are shit - some probably enjoys them since there are still many people buying an Xbox. There's 25 million gamers on game pass, while many probably play third party games there's definetely also people playing xbox exclusives.

Lol and you see no sneaky tactics there when it comes to "reach lots of gamers"?
I'd say he left out the details people actually wanted.

No he specifically said. The fun part is at no extra cost you can press play on the videos in post 1 and actually have a discussion about it.

Rather than imagine It and talk about imaginary problems.

More Phil talking in riddles and doublespeak

"our goal is to reach more gamers"

"Exclusives have always been part of our industry and strategy and will continue to be"

The total cognitive dissonance on display is mind boggling.
Not really, expanding to more gamers just means mobile/cloud/pc. Of course they want CoD as an exclusive, just a matter how long they gotta be forced to release on Sony.

Phil had clear and concise answers. Anyone saying otherwise is nothing but fan double speak.

He avoided directly answering about sony and concerns due to the process for review.

He doesn't sound panicked. If he was he would have went to twitter to respond and comment.

Sony's position on this is they don't want cod on other platforms as it will potentially make thier position weaker in terms of selling consoles. They would lose the special treatment afforded by the current activision deal ( that ms was willing to extended) on partial exclusivity and marketing rights. Sorry im not agreeing on Ryans position on this one.

Simply put imo, Sony isnt afraid of losing cod altogether (its not really an option MS will choose) but they are afraid of cod gamers simply having multiple options to play it elsewhere. If you can play on smart tv, switch, phone and tablet or any device with a browser, sony does stand to lose out on console sales for those gamers that don't care about platform and will play elsewhere.

Regarding marketing... Losing rights on that has a material impact. We saw it in the xbox 360 when activision had a deal with ms having marketing rights. We saw it on ps4, and this gen.

This is less about protecting gamers and more about protecting playstation. Starfield isnt a good example btw. Despite sony trying to buy exclusivity on it.

All it took was Sony acting like a victim.

What lot of bullshit? What the hell are some of you even on? Why would MS and Nintendo call anybody out, with rich histories like theirs?
😂

You know what this thread accidentally made crystal clear? The difference between the hardcore gamers perception of mindshare and actual mindshare.

We, on our forums, social media, and reddit were up in arms over the PS5's price increase. From post after post of "How dare Sony!" To actual reviews and analysis of their quarterly financial statements which had "some" hardcore gamers swearing they'll never support PlayStation again...

In reality, outside of our relatively small circle, nobody gave a shit. Or should I say, PlayStation's market position and mindshare they built on the back of the only thing that matters in this hobby aka great games, was untouched and unaffected by the price increase.

Also Phil saying he wont increase price is not a good will gesture, more so market economics and condition. Here in the UK and Europe the Series X/S is readily available. The market simply isn't as interested in his platform as they are in others. Trying to spin that fact into positive PR is Phil Spencer in his purest form.

Bethesda was a multi platform studio yes but they had two PS5 exclusive games in the first year of the consoles life. They've had other platform exclusive games in the past. It was always about business and that's what this is.

This is really more interesting than most Netflix/hulu/etc series.

The emotional outbursts from people who claim they don't care about cod is hilarious. "Cod is trash, but its not fair 😭"

Couldn't care less for the game. I wouldn't lose access to it either way. But just from reading the reactions, I hope it goes through for more entertainment.

The interview (both video clips) is good questioning by the interviewer and a good watch IMO; especially as the headline of this thread doesn't really convey the wiggle room Phil conveys in the interview answers.

His remark in regards of not being allowed to say much about the acquisition indicates to me that they may be about to pull out of the deal - with so many regulators not rubber stamping the deal straight away - and the "not saying much" part IMO is because share prices moving because of such info is strictly regulated.

The thing that annoys me most about the claim of bring the games to more people via the "the cloud", is that "the cloud" in all these statements isn't "the cloud" as in using Amazon, Google, etc - as would be the case for Activision right now - but "Microsoft's Azure cloud" - using only proprietary Windows APIs to deliver the Activision content to anything able to run a modern browser.

onesvenus onesvenus in the other thread pointed out that when people against the deal say "gamers" - are losing content - they actually meaning a subset - mostly comprising of the gamers of the two console companies that built the market to its current size and maybe Steam and Epic - but using that same accuracy, every time someone claims the content is being brought to gamers via "the cloud" in these discussions, it isn't "the cloud", but XCloud/Azure, which is something very different to the platform agnostic rhetoric being painted by the likes of Phil, when the intention is to soak all the IPs in Window's proprietary APis and use the content in OS and API, and console business wars.

People don't get it on purpose honestly. When Jim Ryan says:
I would [...] like to see a world where the games that we make at PlayStation can be enjoyed by many tens of millions of people," he said in the interview. "Perhaps hundreds of millions of people. »
Everyone understands that he doesn't mean making everything available on Xbox and it doesn't require 15 pages of explanation to get it.

It's just people acting dumb on purpose to find some so-called contradictions when every brand says and does the exact same thing.

I wonder why doesn't Phil just say what his predecessors said that Xbox is the best and you should buy xbox over playstation.

I guess its to look nice in front of the mergers + acquisitions people.

And with aspirations to have a gamepass app everywhere they dont want to be combative to other platforms.

Got a quote?

Show me where he just said what you paraphrased

Instead of giving you one link, here are multiple on Google, even one that links back to neogaf lmao. Took me 5 seconds.

Exclusives Are 'Completely Counter To What Gaming Is About,' Xbox's Phil Spencer Says

There's literally quote after quote going back to 2016. The guys flip flops more than a flaccid penis.

The guy preaches this gamer bullshit yet in practice does the opposite. If this clown would stop lying i wouldn't have an issue as much with him using daddy's cheque book to buy everything.

DarkMage619 DarkMage619 haha 'growing internal studios' do you have Phil's balls in your throat too? Nothing is being grown. They're buying up the industry. Your tag checks out.

If Sony is really that dependent on a Third-Party Game, they've failed. It's all about the loss of profits for their shareholders, nothing more, nothing less. COD has reached a level of influence held by very few. Sony should be scared shitless. They got destroyed in Japan and are starting to lose ground and mindshare in North America. Even though COD is a big deal, there are plenty of games Microsoft doesn't own, pretty hard to prevent a deal based on 1 game or franchise, which might run its course (eventually). Gamers are fickle, what's great last year, can flop the following.

it's me or the gloves are off between sony's and MS' PR?
before they were all flowers and appreciation, now not so much anymore

They are both jossling to be "for the gamer" platform while also pushing there own goals, sony does not want lose money and installbase which Cod going gamepass or exclusive would do. Microsoft want more content to drive gamepass + xbox.
But seeing how playstation and xbox have had and continue to have exclusives jim's comments are contradictory.

The time Jim Ryan said: "It is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.", as an answer to Phil Spencer saying that most games would be cross-gen for the first few years of the new generation. Ryan is snake, and has lied multiple times already, just to discredit Xbox.

Not to say Phil Spencer never lies, these are executives, they don't care about us, they just want to make money and win. I think they do care about their product, and want to build great hardware and services, but in the end it's about money. We can only hope that they deliver something great that we feel is worth paying money for.

Trying to buy an IP for an exclusive period and the IP not being announced for a platform are not mutually exclusive. PS it was insiders who said that, not me.

It's like how Project Eve and Naraka were announced for one platform, but came out on the other. However in this case no announcement was made in the first place so there's nothing that was lost or taken from anyone.
Actually to the point of Naraka...24 Entertainmemt had confirmed specifically that they were working on the PS5 version before the Game Pass announcement and it was mentioned on their social media before that as well. Rather the game has been shelved for PS or just has a timed exclusive period will remain to be seen.
