Google is shutting down Stadia

Google’s cloud gaming service launched three years ago.

Google is shutting down Stadia, its cloud gaming service. The service will remain live for players until January 18th, 2023. Google will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store as well as all the games and add-on content purchased from the Stadia store. Google expects those refunds will be completed in mid-January.

Despite its flaws, Wii U is pretty awesome as a homebrew machine and a Xenoblade X machine. I can't think of one redeeming quality about stadia.

Considering how much profit Google makes, you'd think they'd support the product with more marketing dollars. Only time you hear about Stadia is on message boards where random users find articles on the net about it.

It's like they made this product, was always a half hearted attempt at success, but launched it anyway only because it worked.

At the end of the day, a console will always be judged by its games, and despite the poor sales, Nintendo released some fantastic games for it on a consistent basis. I liked it way more than their output on the switch.

I find it quite incredible that they didn't do half the things they talked about at launch.

- Did any games use multiple instances of the servers to get MEGA-POWAH?
- Did they ever implement the 'launch directly from YouTube' feature?
- Did they ever upgrade any of the servers in the four years?

We will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store. Players will continue to have access to their games library and play through January 18, 2023 so they can complete final play sessions. We expect to have the majority of refunds completed by mid-January, 2023.
