Hi everyone. What would you like to see beyond the obvious overall and genre categories? We've developed some custom internal functionality for this year, so let's go all out and broaden the scope of the NeoGAF Awards.

some ideas:

art direction

UX

UI design

game that respects your time

worst asset reuses

worst remaster/reboot/remake

best value of DLC

best free DLC

most improved previously released game

most appealing new character

best new antagonist/protagonist (design or narrative)

best new side character

most original new IP

most unique game design

best dopamine hit

game that deserves a sequel

game lacking content

game no one played

game that deserves a bigger budget

destined for vaporware

best western published/developed game

best eastern published/developed game

biggest hype/concern for industry future

game/character most likely to be a meme

Coziest game (Harvestella, Lemon Cake, Ooblets, Dreamlight Valley)

Best Soundtrack

Game of the year that I didn't play. A game that isn't for you personally but that you think looks great and are super stoked that the fans enjoyed.

Excited to hear you've developed integrated GOTY!

UI design is a great one.

actual game design awards like:

Best Combat Design
Best Level Design
Best Puzzle Design
etc

and separate awards that distinguish between the technical and the creative

Best Art Direction (use of color, light, style choices, etc, a creative award)
Best Environment Art (technical award, best looking environments basically)
Best Character Art (technical award, best looking chracater models basically)
Best Audio Fidelity (technical award, like the sound mix & quality)
Best Sound Design (use of sound, style choices, a creative award)

more specific awards the merrier I'd say

Most innovative game…games that push the medium or try something unique should be rewarded. Games like immortality, NORCO, vampire survivor, etc…what they do isn't new but they do something unique with established conventions that aren't used often.

The most Soycuck game of the year
The gaming journalist difficulty level of the year
The worst trashtalk game of the year
The wokiest game of the year

Biggest Hog or BDE

(I guess maybe you could go with something like "ambitious" but that's no fun)

Best Costume/outfit design.
After playing Witcher 3 again recently I'm reminded just how spectacular outfits are in that game compared to other fantasy games and I think there are plenty of 2022 games that also deserve recognition for their efforts on this front.

Best first hour of gameplay.
As great as some games can be as a whole, too many just utterly fail to reel players in quickly. Triangle Strategy, Pentiment, Death Stranding are great examples of games that need their first few hours completely overhauled, while games like High on Life absolutely nail it. Games that succeed here deserve praise and accolades.
