I go back and forth with this topic. I still think TLoU: Part II hasn’t been surpassed in certain aspects, but overall presentation I’d have to give it to Forbidden West.

Then again, Rift Apart looks like it has the best visuals ever in some levels, while looking less impressive in others.

Surprised by lack of Ghost of Tsushima mentions. There are some definitely bad NPC character models here and there, but the art design and landscapes are breathtaking, running on PS5 locked 60fps at 4k with HDR on an OLED it is probably the best looking game I have ever seen.

Horizon FW probably wins flat out, but I would give GoT the edge aesthetically. Cyberpunk probably is the real answer since you can run it on a High Refresh rate monitor with a 4090. Hopefully Guerilla ports H:FW to PC soon and we can just mod and crank that puppy.

I agree Strive is a little underwhelming. When Guilty Gear Xrd first came out that was probably the best looking game ever, and while Strive has improved their graphic techniques over 6 years or whatever, it isn't nearly as impressive as Xrd was.

Same reason R* usually downgrades their single player games.. their damn Multiplayer modes.
It's the most infuriating shit ever, especially when downgrades get later ported on more powerful machines.

SkyHighTrees Add draw distance and AO to the list, massive difference for both.

AO difference is absolutely awful for characters especially:

And what's worse to me is draw distance, as you said LOD management was jaw dropping in 1.00 with practically non-existent pop-in, when any version after display tons of missing trees/shadows all over the place.

Atomic Heart for this month, most recently before this, Scorn has amazing surreal and memorable landscapes, especially the end cityscape.

if you need me to give you a PS5 game, it would be Demon Souls Remake.

The Calllisto Protocol on a proper gaming rig has some of the best lighting and material work ever made. Say what you will about the gameplay, the visual presentation really is industry leading. It's RT implementation is extensive, too. Looks utterly terrific maxed out.
Runner up is Cyberpunk 2077, on PC too, of course. The scope and scale mixed with the sheer detail on offer is simply unmatched. Nothing comes close to Night City. This isn't walking through corridors with little happening and pre-baked lighting; Cyberpunk goes fucking hard.
Third place is Read Dead Redemption 2, on PC or on console. Rockstar proves they're still the best in the business at getting consoles to sing. Real time GI, volumetric fog and clouds, and the sheer interactive detail; RDR2 is really special.

Story of Thor 2 comes to mind. Gorgeous pixel-art, rendered in 240p on a CRT. Pure bliss.

I also love pixel-art on MegaDrive, some games look incredible considering that it is only 4x16 colors from a 512 palette. Lunar Eternal Blue is a good example.

The last picture is from an in-game video. Absolutely timeless. Not a single artifact or defect, these were coded with the hardware in mind. Superior to anything we've got on 32 bits. There are many others, such as the Shining Force games.

One of the best games ever made, Prey 2017. It's not for everybody tho but if immersive sim is what you're after, this is the best modern one yet. I am a sucker for amazing level design and Prey nails it.

You're not beating The Last of Us: Part 2. Sorry.

Even not being the biggest fan of the game, I can't deny that Naughty Dog is the best in the business.

Horizon Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima are a very high bar and compete with The Last of Us: Part 2 respectively with certain graphical aspects.

But Naughty Dog will always be ahead of the competition. And one of the biggest reasons for this is water physics.

They seem to be the only company that understands how water actually flows through an environment. With each iteration of their engine it becomes more and more lifelike.

The water in Part 2 is truly mind blowing and a borderline liquid simulation, though I know it's actually more of a visual trick with graphics shaders in most places.

Couple that with their overall physics implementation including melee animations and glass physically breaking in random patterns under stress and they simply can't be beat.

I can't wait to see a native PS5 title from them.

Obviously you can play it on PC now but it really deserved a Pro patch on console. 1080p/30fps is not good enough for that game.
