Yep, the same company that has been having an absolute monopoly since the 90s over the PC OS "market" and productivity softwares. Microsoft owns monopolies, it is by definition a monopolistic company.

Don’t care what anybody says, this is way fucking embarrassing. Goddamn they sent this boy out there to beg on the public square my lord
A person that compares Sony(one of the largest Music & Movie producers) to Blockbuster(which only sold movies and allowed renting), isn't someone I'd consider fit to be in the position of president (that comparison was embarrassing). I'm more than likely to compare him to a snot nosed adolescent than a fully grown man, sorry. He isn't the person that inspires a lot of confidence either, especially after that inadequate rant disguised as a presentation he did yesterday.

You all realize that if the deal doesn’t go through Microsoft will buy publishers that you actually care about instead?

No other publisher has AAA portfolio so well suited to gamepass. And if they aren't allowed to buy ABK then Take2 with R* games is off the table as well.

They could try buying smaller publishers but then it's not gonna be as quick and easy to gain gamepass subs as they want.

Why are they shutout? MS doesnt force you to buy an xbox and pay $70 a go to play their games. PC, cloud, now looks like streaming.

Sonygaf are always telling us about their gaming PC, time to dust it off and enjoy the Bethesda games like everyone else, via gamepass or purchase, what ever price point you prefer.

And unlike Sony's someday maybe approach to PC you wont have to wait, enjoy the games same time as everyone else. ACCESS BABY!!!

This thread will peak on the day the deal is approved, Sonygaf meltdown of epic proportions is coming, strap yourselves in!

There is only one company increasing access and reducing the cost of gaming and its not Sony or Nintendo.

This needs to end... I want sony to continue fexing game muscle instead of making lame state of play pretending to look weak.

well...obviously?
How would the brand even survive without all the studios that actually work on it? Selling off CoD was never a realistic option.

Some people, here, believe that MS offering "presents" to other companies in exchange for their acceptance of the deal is a sign that this deal is a good thing for consumers...

Companies never made a deal that would harm competition or consumers ….

Time to end this nonsense. And put them on probation. No more deals until they go at least 3 years without misleading PR.

I give them 48 hrs without it tops.

Opposing the deal is not about Microsoft, it is about monopoly

If Sony were to acquire EA or Ubi Soft every one should oppose this deal

Well there is a nuance.

It’s not just the acquisition - it’s what comes after.

Bungie for example - Sony made it clear, they’re stand-alone.

That’s ok - revenue is diverted to a different bucket, but fundamentally consumers can enjoy playing Bungie’s current and future offerings wherever those games are “naturally” published.

Compare and contrast to MS. Limited time offers for existing franchises, while future stuff, even known in development titles - taken hostage.

MS approach will destroy our hobby.

The options given were divesting the entire CoD machine, or Activision as a whole.

Which are essentially the same thing.

So a 10 year deal is really their limit?

Geez they really showed their ass on that one
Why do people think like this? Companies can fire thousands of people when the market turns but are expecting them to solidify a business deal for more than a decade? Content arrangements that long are not the typical way of doing business

The latest NFL broadcasting deal is 10 years and covers several outlets, is that really their limit? Geez they showed their ass on that one.

The latest NBA deal was 9 years, is that really their limit? Geez they showed their ass and left nut on that one.

Twitch signs streamers to undisclosed length but multiyear contracts, is that really their limit? Geez they should have showed their ass on that one but hid it.

Netflix does a lot of 100M + agreements but the content output is not disclosed. Disney signed Favreau to an "insane" deal that is probably much less than 10 years. Paramount signed a contract with the producer of Star Trek and other shows to 5.5 years.

The few examples of content agreements I found are all 10 years or less, yet you people are magically expecting something longer and unprecedented because why? Because you think the owner of your favorite platform deserves a longer period without needing to renegotiate a deal than any other platform owners in recent history?

If you were running a company and had the opportunity to sign a long term deal or a super long term deal what factors would make you choose one over the other? Simplistically if you think you can get a better deal by either signing again in the future or finding an alternative, you would take the shorter deal. If 10 is too short, what is long enough?

Well, without the exclusive MLB license, they couldn't create their own MLB baseball game. This is why MLB The Show is on Xbox: either they released it on Xbox to maximise sales, or, they lost the exclusive license.

And Sony is welcome to try and use the Government agencies to do its business negotiations for it. However, if it goes wrong, they're at the mercy of Microsoft - and the regulators won't help them. Sony needs to prove their claims, or any agency decision based on Sony's lobbying will be thrown out pretty quickly on appeal. And in that scenario, Microsoft holds all the cards. Based on the recent subpoenas, it seems Sony legitimately thought they wouldn't have to provide evidence for their claims - which goes some way to explain the insane claims Sony made to the regulators ("without Call of Duty, the Sony Corporation will be foreclosed by Microsoft"). Now that it's come time to put up or shut up, Sony is begging for more time. They'd better have some incredible paperwork, or Papa Jimbo's gameplan may well backfire. Jimbo and co is either three steps ahead, or twelve steps behind.
Not really!

Many have suffered from COD fatigue just they have with Assassins creed games. The biggest market for COD is PlayStation and seeing how everyone outside of MS is paying full price for games, this is gonna hurt MS more than anything!

You have several studios rotations on these games and that costs! So we’re really gonna sit here and act like MS war chest is gonna keep this series alive which is the top game of this acquisition?

What if a handful of PS console owners get an Xbox for this, they’re still getting it for Pennie’s on the dollar as it’s gonna be on game pass day one right?

So as an investor, where am I seeing revenue generated in the likes this game normally does before the buyout? You clearly don’t have the market share and even being on Nintendo, how will crossplay work for this type of game compared to console and PC?

Man I just want this shit over! It’s irritating hearing about this and being a gamer and business minded about it is too much. I digress and we have no choice but to wait and see this through

If your message is that you want to be where the player is then you can’t turn around and keep games away from other consoles just because you also want to keep growing your own console hw business.

MS is on a eat cake and have cake mode and they rely on their astroturfing to keep the message alive.

Your examples are all bad because all of this content you talk about is hw agnostic. Netflix isn’t out there selling TVs, and keeping content away from other select TVs.

Chris drings take on the matter.

He goes in hard in the article and normally his a reserved dude. But he sees through the microsofts/acitivisions bullshit.

I just skimmed thru it but it says nothing about the briefings(quote me if in wrong on this), only the pr stunt. I don’t see the EU accepting this. EU is Sonyland compared to UK. Folks in EU says Sony does huge marketing compared to xbox’s non-existent marketing.

If they were in favor, you would hear the clowns at ms like greenturd shouting from the rooftops.

Only bit about the hearing is this
It was a theatrical flourish which, apparently, he also did within the closed European Commission hearing earlier that day
So they already did this in the hearing, and this was just chest thumping to the public.

Not really sure what any of this has to do with my post, but thanks for taking the time, I guess?
