Nope. You should be demanding both. There's no reason a game can't look amazing and play just as good. Certain devs know how to provide both. Others completely ignore one for the other.
And yet so called high tech graphics didn't help me enjoy games like TLOU 2 or Horizon, meanwhile I enjoyed the crap out of games like Sekiro, Elden Ring and other FROM games even without the "high tech graphics".

It's not just AAA games taking longer to make, and it's not because of graphics. Psychonauts 2 took a full 6 years. Most kickstarter games, literally 2D and/or sprite-based as they are, take the better part of 4-5 years to get done. Hollow Knight came out in February 2017, and Silksong will be cutting it close if it comes out by the end of 2023. Moon Studios took 5 years between Ori 1 and the sequel.

I can't speak for him but I expected better. I expected the ue5 demo they showed with the flying - like I thought that would be a standard good graphics for ps5 level and a few games would go above that
I would say that TLOU2 and Forbidden West gameplay is fun, satisfying and complex by any reasonable standard. On top of that, it has fantastic audio-visual fidelity.
Sure, I mostly talking about my own experience. The graphics never made game automatically better for me, in fact most of the high tech graphics is all about going for realism which I personally dont care for.
I think people are entitled to expect at least marginally better graphics from their new machines or components which are marketed to be and actually capable of that. It's further justified when nothing else is advancing in tangible ways. NPC counts have flatlined, environmental interactivity isn't up, scale hasn't increased, etc. And when there seems to be a graphical backslide from some devs compared to what they produced before.

..and almost everyone of those UE5 mockups on Youtube are using Nanite wrong. They keep naniteifying regular old last gen assets as if making it nanite is somehow gonna increase the polycount ot auto add zbrush level of geometric detail. Its like whats the point? Do they even understand what there doing? Or how the tech even works? There only doing damage to the UE5 brand. Shits sad.

Yeah no, this is exactly the mindset that has allowed developers to be immensely lazy this gen. Basically, your logic is we should have no expectations from the new generation consoles that we bought ignore that due to expectations devs worked immensely hard during the last two gens pushing consoles that were honestly very limited to push tech in ways that were amazing. Having launch titles like killzone shadowfall on a 1.8 tflop gpu and a jaguar was jawdropping and what the devs achieved with 512mb of ram and a weak rsx was ridiculous especially since they developed newer more efficient tech such as mlaa etc to push the envelope forward.
90% of the threads in GAF is whining about graphics regardless of the topic. Graphics is all they talk about in GAF, even topic about gameplay.
The next gen consoles have barely offered anything new in terms of gameplay so if they aren't offering significantly better graphics, what exactly is the point of having next gen consoles in the first place?
They paid $500+ just to play PS4 games at 60fps....yeah Id be pissed too. They where lied too and that was never gonna end well.
