It's reflected in their discussions of profitability, revenue, etc. That gets baked into the valuation. A company with a higher valuation is much more influential to the industry. It's why bigger deals are less likely to go through.

As for the bold, I purchased an Xbox one for one game. One game. But I have always had a capable PC and I already had a ps4 at the time. That is not the average consumer who chooses one platform. At the time it was objectively the worst platform available, not even up for debate.



Deliberately selecting and handing over your hard earned cash for an inferior product which will result in inferior experiences all because you think you are being nationalistically charitable is extreme.

The difference is the idea of what's inferior is the hang up.

Probably all depends on the contract between From and Activision. Usually this stuff is all spelled out for a number of different scenarios.

Market cap is a proxy for influence and importance. Market cap is based on a valuation, which takes into account things like earnings which the regulators are discussing.

So yes, when a merger is being evaluated as anti-competitive, the market cap is either directly or indirectly a primary consideration relative to other market competitors.

Somehow MS showed them how much money they would lose if they cut PlayStation out of the equation and the CMA was like "Holy shit that really is a lot of money, you're definitely not doing that."

But anybody who's been around big time money knows what probably happened is that somebody talked to somebody who talked to somebody.

FTC is still a hold up and their hearing is in August. MS did say if they get the approvals in EU and CMA they will look into closing it without FTC, or something to that account.

I'm not sure how that works but let's see.

Most people in favor of Microsoft and this deal are hiding their words and trying to leap on MS's claim of trying to be more "competitive" and throwing shade at Sony for making exclusivity deals, when some of them basically want the same thing but with Microsoft. MS was doing all that and more during the X360 era. If things swing heavily in their favor now, expect that to return (even though it didn't really stop completely, given they were still making deals like that, but at a smaller scale).

Sure. Does it really matter when the company whose game is being "blocked" wasn't going to put it on Game Pass in the first place? This was all really just a nothing burger controversy. The game in question, RE Village, is way past the "blocking" term set in the marketing contract. Is it on Game Pass? Nope. Still wanting to maximize those game sales it would seem.

Both are businesses. They won't pay to market a game that won't benefit their ecosystem. You don't expect MS to market games they are paying for....for Sony, right?

On the cma document,
- they realised that the partial foreclosure element of degrading the quality on ps was overplayed and consumers would still buy/play cod
- they realised that they had done the maths wrong but I need to dig in deeper. They definitely didn't agree with both but they realised that they have accounted for COD users twice in the LTV and they had used data from a period of higher engagement re new console release.
- COD ain't minecraft re the likely strategy
- Losing cod revenue is likely to be bigger than the long term benefits re new users and gp revenue.
