Why does his suit HUD look like it's pulled directly from a low budget 90s made-for-tv kids movie?
Looks fine, in the same way all superhero movies look "fine." This is the MCU treatment through and through and it would be nice if DC tried to do their own thing.
Also, as fun as the new Blue Beetle is, this really should have been a buddy movie with Booster Gold. And definitely should have stuck to HBO Max. My guess, they filmed it as such but are okay with rolling the dice for some quick theater monies.

Like putting the passive aggressive humor aside this looks like a bad cgi 2000s movie much like most of modern Marvel films.
Just let the superhero genre die already.
It's like the pendulum has swung back to the days of bad mediocre no name super hero movies that were of abundance before the dark knight proved super hero movies can be more than cgi shite.
The only difference now is they get to say "the first ever (insert woke marginalized person) superhero"

Ted Kord is the only Blue Beetle who was friends with Booster Gold IIRC. They're probably setting up for Ted to appear in the Booster Gold show since Ted's sister is apparently in this film, and the ship was built by him in the comics. So even if Ted doesn't make an appearance in the film, it seems the trailer confirms he was a prior Blue Beetle (not sure about Dan Garrett, who was 1st followed by Ted then Jaime, but I feel Dan doesn't have as much of a fan base compared to his successors, but we'll have to wait and see).

First of all, I REALLY dug the Giffen/Maguire/Dematteis Justice League books in the late 1980s and their whole Blue Beetle/Booster Gold dynamic. It was such a breath of fresh air and just hilarious and fun. I never had any idea about the character prior, or since actually. But if they ever managed to capture some of that magic in cinematic form, I'd be very interested to investigate that, certainly.
But this? I dunno who asked for this - Blue Beetle as a character/concept is fine, I suppose, one of those canvases where you can (obviously) plug so many general ideas into, and this trailer is proof of that. I enjoy Cobra Kai, so it's nice to see Mig getting some bigger-budget work to up his profile. But overall, this trailer shows absolutely nothing that we have seen that hasn't been done many, many times before. It's just a basic trailer, that doesn't mean the film won't necessarily go to some weird/interesting places, but another "bug hero in a futuristic/alien cyber-suit" just feels so extremely passe at this point that it is hard to really want to even watch something like this for free.
But sure, let them keep pumping these out, and eventually maybe it will start getting really tired for real and they will cool their jets on shoveling these out - or at least, without putting something genuinely interesting into them.

Jaime as a character can work but EVERY writer has no idea what to do with him once he has control of the scarab like he doesn't have a life after that.
The character worked BECAUSE he followed a retired (or dead, depending on time line) Ted Kord and the events of Identity Crisis and Infinite Crisis helped the setting evolve with him. Honestly the first Jaime book is worth a read even if you don't read the previous books.
Jaime on his own is literally just Spider-man. And this movie is pretty much going that route which I really wish it didn't. It would've worked better by having Ted (is that fat guy with the beard supposed to be Ted?) in the trailer teaching Jaime so it wouldn't feel like Spider-man.
