Wonder how ABK and Sony's relationship will be after all of this.

Yeah this is the question now. Spent a lot of time throwing shade at Sony during all this - a very significant business partner sending big money ABK's way - only to have the acquisition blocked for reasons not about Sony.

I wonder if we're about to see the Sony marketing deal extended and expanded by ABK now? That's the 10 year deal Sony probably would take.

How it was going:

How it will be:

If this deal does fall through in its entirety then it’ll be interesting to see what the relationship between ABK and Sony looks like.

Sony will want to renew that COD marketing deal, but all the way through this saga Sony and ABK have been pissing on each other.

I don't think the CMA is too proud to change their mind, like they did with Sony's arguments.

The CMA came to this conclusion after months of consideration, numbers, and advisement. That was even after being willing to drop their objections to the console market. The only way to appeal is to convince the CAT that the CMA acted in bad faith or incorrectly. Good luck with that. Then even if you do, 2/3 chance, based on the last 10 years, that the CMA comes to the same conclusion. We're talking definitely a year from now but some are saying possibly as much as 3 years. Shareholders aren't going to wait that long. I can almost guarantee you the July deadline hits and Activision pulls the plug and collects its free $3 billion that they already hired lawyers to protect.

If COD money is anything like Fortnite's almost 50% revenue coming from Sony's platform...i'd say pretty great for Activision.

Also...wasn't the deal blocked due to cloud gaming? Sounds to me that it wasn't even related with COD or consoles overall.

i hope activision loses the reduction on the 30% fee
now sony will dictate terms and can use all that against activision

Yeah was gonna say this. Sony will have a much bigger bargaining power, with xbox massively floundering and that any deals abk make with xbox won't be as lucrative.

Sony shouldn't be cunts. Just move on and ignore the shit. Doing this would lead to poor relationships and no hardware business can survive continuing to make enemies with independent publishers.

Yep, it just needs to be business as usual for them as it always has been throughout this process apart from the one time Phil attempted to disparage Jim.

Be the bigger man and all that.

It wasn’t? Was certainly unexpected to me and most of those who voted in the poll. You yourself even voted approval.

Pharao was saying not to light any cigars and you were replying refuting others who predicted this. In the end @PharaoTutAnchAmun was right about not celebrating too early and ultimately so were those certain the CMA would kill it. Let's not downplay that by suggesting this is not unexpected or that you knew all along now. Props to those people who actually expected this.

I said it back then......No matter what any of us wanted...we cant really know what the CMA was thinking until they report their final response. We have no say in it, which is why I always took a "wait and see" approach. because that result changes the conversation. A vote on the GAF has little influence on the real world deal...you know that right? its just opinion, on a forum. I thought that if it did go through it would go through without concessions on the console side bar COD...... I wouldnt have been wrong about that. What I never saw was their stance on cloud gaming being so firm, and that being the factor that led to them blocking it. ...and yet we have people patting jim ryan on the back?...make it make sense, bruh..... unless we just chalking up any misery for MS as a sony win around here....just because..... that would be something, wouldn't it?.... :messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_sweat:

And now...as this thread winds down...the conversation is...what does MS do next?..whats their next move? this is deal is done and dusted now that the CMA have officially killed it. But that does not mean their wont be more aquisitions....But who will they buy? Thats far more interesting to me. COD is like a hoe.....everybody gets a turn. shes nothing special...MS just wanted to be her pimp.MS cant be her pimp...big deal.... the world still turns... so now what? MS can go after more desirable studios and they wont cost anywhere near 70Bn. Of course they can always insvest more into their studios aswell...... they dont need to spend 70Bn on one company anymore so theres lots they can do with even a fraction of that, even if they didnt spend it all on gaming. Im more interested in what happens next now.

That was during the litigation process which Sony was remaining professional and smart, unlike Activision/MS tweeting away and doing arrogant interviews/spending marketing money on this, etc.. The difference in hubris between American and Japanese companies. And I say that as an American.

Business will go on per usual, and I would not be surprised if he coddles and Sony gets an even better (longer term) sweetheart deal after all of this with CoD.

Yeah there is a saying "If you owe the bank $100, the bank owns you. If you owe the bank $1 million, you own the bank"

Activision is dependent on Sony and make so much money from them that they can't do anything other than continue to be great business partners.

This is also why traditionally Sony has not purchased large publishers/developers and have generally been tactical with their acquisitions - they are going to get the games anyway, and their market position means they are usually going to get great terms and partnerships on top of it, so why spend the money buying something they already are receiving? Of course, this type of deal has probably made Sony rethink that approach a bit because they never would have considered a competitor would simply buy such a huge publisher.
