Marvel's Spider Man 2 Gameplay Revealed - Releases Fall 2023 | PlayStation Showcase

This is what happens when everyone DEMANDS 60fps modes. They have to target the asset quality and world around that. The 30fps mode is just the same with a higher res and a slightly better quality

This is why the matrix demo looks so good. It TARGETS 30FPS. you can literally push twice the assets
Irrelevant. What they showed was running at 30fps.

Naw you need to rewatch the trailer in true 4k, this is peak next gen right here...though seriously after the technical masterclass of ratchet this just makes my head hurt, this is a clearly talented studio with ample budget. Like seriously what happened.
Yea, watching it in 4k, Spider-man venom suit looks much better.
Looks very similar to Venom reveal.

No. There will certainly be a 60fps mode given this quality of visuals. So no I am not wrong.
yep. this 100%. they are definitely targeting 60 fps. the visual upgrade is so small over Miles that its obvious they spent all the GPU power on rendering 60 fps.

i bet when the pixel counts come in tomorrow, this will be native 4k.

hopefully with an unlocked mode for that sweet low latency.

Miles Morales felt so much better in the VRR mode, the input lag difference was instantly noticeable when I turned it on.

Well it looks good but clearly an obvious iteration of what came before and not really very ambitious from a visual standpoint so the hope here is that it's going to be a much bigger game than the first.

Watched the trailer again in 4k, yea it does look better but not by much. Over last weekend I reinstalled Rift Apart again, and it seems Spiderman 2 is less impressive? I'm not sure if its the environment in this trailer or the art style, but Rift Apart looks much much better than this. The set piece is great, but its nothing new to be honest. Maybe the first game/Miles Morales had set such a high bar that the sequel looks decidedly less impressive? I wasn't expecting that much of a graphical leap, but man this did not get me hyped at all. The symbiote suit Spidey ala Web of Shadows was a surprise, but the suit design, even in 4k looks kinda terrible.

One thing that sticks out is how much Miles talked to himself. I thought by now PS devs would've picked up that people don't like this from Days Gone, God of war, and Horizon. Just so much talking and explaining things.

Maybe I should have been more clear about what I meant.
If you watched it in 4k, you'll see parts of Spider-man Venom suit moving.

The areas around the neck, arm and legs.

As for the face, they went with smooth leather like look which doesn't show as much detail as the other suits.

Other than that, only issue I saw was the sea water had not much interaction with the characters.

Don't know what's your problem.

Devs have surrounded themselves with yes men on twitter. they live in a bubble now. i was looking at youtube comments and they are all overwhelmingly positive because youtube automatically hides negative comments or pushes them down.

journalists dont know how to review games anymore. they are too scared to come to gaf. so no one is telling devs what people actually need to hear.

Rift apart is not an open world game with an instant character switch mechanic. Great game but fundamentally very different from a design pov.

Everything looks bigger and better than the first one to me. I'm hoping it's the Arkham City to the first game. Symbiote Spidey looked good and maybe I didn't play enough of the first but it looked like there were more tools to take out more than one enemy at a time.

Not wanna sound hyperbolic but SM2 gives me Watchdogs 1 vibes (it looks better obv)

Christ thats embarrassing.

Watch Dogs is a 9 year old cross gen PS4 game. Insomniac really needs to turn in their badge. they dont deserve to be called sony first party anymore.

Here is another 2014 game. Sorry, but spiderman 2 doesnt look a generation better than this. Insomniac done fucked up.

The visual state of the game is good, but not outwardly impressive. Black suit looks unfinished. Clearly, this game is not as close to the finish line as we thought.

But what really disappoints me is the gameplay. It looks too similar to Miles Morales and Spider-Man 1. This isn't like Ragnarok or Forbidden West. The gameplay in those didn't as far to go as Spider-Man did, and they were
cross gen games.

The scale of combat remains to be very small. Spider-Man himself doesn't seem as powerful as he should be, especially not in the black suit. The set piece moments have not advanced like they did from Uncharted 3 to 4.

When a cross gen Ubisoft game looks better, something has gone terribly wrong over at Insomniac.

I say they just have to much on thier plate. They have done ratchet, miles, a remaster in a short period of time. They also had sm2 and Wolverine in development. Sacrifices are going to be made to make such an insane release schedule. Sony is to heavily leaning on them to help carry the water until the rest of the studios are ready with games.

It's interesting how this gameplay showing seems to be getting almost completely overwhelming praise from everywhere but this forum 😂
NPC casuals vs a hardcore enthusiast board.

That's like saying the latest MCU movie is loved by all my friends at work but my film geek friends don't like it.

Let's see here

- cringey awful dialogue

- Spider-Man voice actor is directed to over compensate and sound like a gruff jerk with every single line so the dumbass general audiences can know black suit = meanie

- more miles gameplay time than Peter gameplay time

- graphics look absolutely whelming and disappointing

- exact same explosion VFX package as Spider-Man 2018 base game. Exact same.

- forced corporate synergy pushing kraven for the new movie and miles big time for spider verse 2

- stealth continuing or copy Batman with the zip line web

- speaking of Batman, the game series they ape so hard, the combat fails to look at satisfying as even Arkham city but compensates with excessive "so cool" slow motion

Man….

These guys are so lame.
Ask these guys what next-gen is supposed to look like, they can't answer you.

We are at the point of diminishing returns.

Some games look better than real life.

Next gen games should look something like this. Nothing in that SpiderMan gameplay demo looks anything remotely like the below. In fact it looks like a slightly upgraded PS4 version of Miles Morales. I won't be surprised if what we were seeing was a cross gen title and I'd be very concerned if its a PS5 exclusive.

Minimum effort, maximum profits.

$70 games with reused assets and animations.

God of War and now Spider Man.
remember that millie a insider? she was all just wait till you guys see next gen animations. its literally the same shit woman!

i find it hilarious that this took 5 years to make. i was told on this forum that the reason why they worked on miles and ratchet was so they could do a full reboot instead of an iterative sequel. this looks almost identical to miles which itself was a dlc expansion.

whats the point of the ssd, the fancy 8 core 16 thread cpu and a 10 tflops gpu if you are just going to reuse the same animations and same last gen assets?

Negatives:
-A lot of the swinging and aerial animations look the same as the first game.
-Combat is straight up lifted out of the first game. I was hoping for an overhaul to make it better.
-I'm not a fan of the overly morphy black suit gameplay. Black suit Spidey should be significantly faster and stronger with unlimited webbing and brutality in animations. Turning him into some spikey blob is lame.
-That was 90% on rails/cutscene set piece which the first game over-relied on.
-That is the ugliest black suit design I've ever seen.
-Personal preference, but I don't want to play as Miles. I want to hunt the Lizard as Peter for nostalgia. Tired of Miles taking Spidey villains. Insomniac Miles is also incredibly lame. That's comic accurate, at least. Only good Miles is ITSV Miles.
-Generally comes across as childish. Especially the dialogue. I was hoping they'd go a bit darker since we're talking Venom here. Peter with his evil Batman voice is flat out cringe.

Positives:
-Lizard looks badass. Fantastic design.
-The added Queens! I was always annoyed we were stuck in Manhattan in the previous game and couldn't really swing across the bridges.
-The spider-pits utilized for high speed gliding is fantastic. Wish we could have them aesthetically. I've always been a huge spider-pits fan.
-It looks better, graphically. I see a lot of people disagreeing here, but I don't see it.

Overall, meh.

I hope they have improved Peter Parker's face since the remaster, because them claiming that it was because of "new facial capture technology" rather than it being a corporate move to make Peter Parker look more like Tom Holland was the biggest bunch of bullshit.

Coasting on the SpiderMan IP.

They know anything Spidey related will make bank. So like the other guy said:

Minimum effort, maximum profits.

They don't wanna hear it though. The framerate warriors are out here celebrating PS4 quality games at 60fps. Sickens me.

And they blame everything but their egregious demands for 60fps. This is what we get. PS4 looking games. At 60fps. Forever.

I wound't be as mad if the GAMEPLAY was next gen. But even that is fucking status quo.

HATE their rendition of the Back Suit. Probably the worse version of it made. But the game will be awesome I'm sure and hopefully they'll have alternative styles.

Why are all their inhouse design suits so bad?
It's meant to incorporate Venom, I thought it looked like a good cohesion between Venom and Spider Man

Personally thought this looked amazing, far more interesting than I expected. Going to sell a lot of ps5's.

Compression on the stream didn't do it any favors but it's definitely way ahead of the first game.

Gameplay seems like more of the same, but that's hard to complain about, I love these games.

Frame drops during the gameplay. Aside form that I enjoyed it. Some fidelity graphics wise looked new-gen and was cool, but most of it looked more like how Miles Morales was at release.

Rewatched in 4K, it looks like it got the Fortnite UE5 treatment, which I guess will become more common as more games release. The housing scene at the start especially looked very Fortnite like.
