Can someone explain to me what the big deal about this is? I'm console neutral so either way im good but why is everyone so obsessed with microsoft buying them? It wont change a thing for xbox owners so what gives?
No idea, been wondering about the same for the last 18 months lol.

Some people like to say "ABK games on Game Pass" but they can have it without the acquisition. I personally feel (and while some may disagree with me) that this acquisition is more about giving a fuck you to Sony and PlayStation gamers after the last 20 years of "console wars."

Of course they are free to change their mind, it's their property now so they can do as they wish with it. The key thing in all of this however is that circumstances they outlined haven't arisen.

But I also think there was some wordplay there on their part, particularly around the statement in 112 and the notion that people wouldn't bring all of their game purchasing activity over to Xbox - they don't give a fuck about this and just want people to subscribe to gamepass.
Yea definitely don't see that as a priority for them. The quote "We can't outconsole Sony" comes to mind. It would be welcomed, obviously. I think as long as folks are in their ecosystem they are good with it.

I mean I'm sure I can think of a bunch of reasons why they choose to go the exclusive route even though these circumstances have yet to occur.

First, they gotta make good on their public statement to their fans.
Secondly, they could possibly subsidize loss of revenue through keeping other games like COD multiplat
Third, as a warning shot to Sony. Not really likely because I'm pretty sure the gloves are off after this fiasco.
Fourth, maybe they are giving the console race another go...
Fifth, they may need these games to pad out gamepass and also to help stamp out the narrative that gamepass is the home of bargain bins indie games. It's not true, but Microsoft at times has to work twice as hard to disprove narratives.
Xbox has no games, for example. It went from that to....Xbox has all the games. There's no in between.

Man, this whole thing has been a roller coaster of emotion. CMA still holding up thankfully.

If the deal somehow makes it through the UK, I hope Sony does choose the nuclear option and don't allow the next COD on playstation, especially after reading those email that came out. MS can shove their trojen horse.

how do they prevent the publication of a product that has been there for over 20 years?

I fail to see how this latest CMA development helps Microsoft in respect of the deadline.

This isn't going to be done in a week by the sounds of it.

Was I right about the premature ejaculation celebrations?
Obviously they are working within that time frame, otherwise the negotiations would be pointless. Presumably they heard about Microsoft possibly closing without the CMA's approval? at least that's what it looks like.

Activision's stock is trading pretty close to the buyout price I think. If CMA requires a new deal that requires shareholder approval, is there anything to stop Activision from requesting 3 Billion for a deal not having been closed next week?

And for people who really play the stock market - how would major shareholders look at this scenario? Would a $1 to $4 overpayment be enough incentive to agree to another deal at this juncture?

The share price is trading close to buyout because the market believes the deal will close. 95$ is a hard cap for the share's price because nobody is going to pay more than what Microsoft will pay. The share price will probably drop significantly for the short term if the deal collapses.

You guys can't possibly want Sony to remove COD from PlayStation themselves. You want them to fall on their own swords? For what? Reality here is that there are just too many fans of COD. The revenue benefits everyone participating to some degree and it would be absolutely foolish to just throw that away out of spite.

This is never going to happen, regardless of what happens with this deal.

Just delusional conjecture.

You guys? One guy said that my man. There ain't no "you guys" behind that at all. lol

"Whilst merging parties don't have the opportunity to put forward new remedies once a final report has been issued, they can choose to restructure a deal, which can lead to a new merger investigation," a spokesperson said.

aka, we want to end this but come out looking like we didn't buckle on our original decision.

I wonder how long it's gonna take

"Whilst merging parties don't have the opportunity to put forward new remedies once a final report has been issued, they can choose to restructure a deal, which can lead to a new merger investigation," a spokesperson said.

"Microsoft and Activision have indicated that they are considering how the transaction might be modified, and the CMA is prepared to engage with them on this basis. These discussions remain at an early stage and the nature and timing of next steps will be determined in due course.

"While both parties have requested a pause in Microsoft's appeal to allow these discussions to take place, the CMA decision set out in its final report still stands."

Keep reading, they didn't buckle.

I don't get why Microsoft wouldn't just make an agreement about exclusivity on cloud gaming platforms, if it is such a minor part of their business, instead of doing all this weird brinksmanship and karen stuff.

They buckled, the CMA have never looked to renegotiate before. I believe this will be passed before the deadline or Microsoft and Activision will set a new deadline but the CMA are passing this through 100%.
CMA has always been open to their divestment terms. It's how these regulators work.

Most companies don't want or like it, so they end up blocking deals or forcing divestment (Facebook/Giphy).

Intersting. Former head of CMA suggesting that although this gives the CMA the appearance of listening, it could actually be a tactic to delay the CAT process to be closer to the original date they wanted (which was turned down).

Anyone pretending to know what will
