One of those butterfly effect moments. Had the shark worked properly it would have been seen more, the film would have been weaker for it, Spielberg's career might not have taken off.
I haven't seen Jaws in a while but the best scene to me was the "feeding frenzy" scene when all the people were in those small boats going crazy trying to kill sharks.
Perhaps I'll give it a watch!
Jaws, like many has given me a lifelong fear of swimming in the sea. There are 3 Jaws movies right? I saw them many times as a young kid. Not sure why in retrospect lol.

In a while... yeah must be like.. 33(?) years ago for me.. Main memory is when the shark get on the boat and the dude slides in his mouth. But that was in one of its sequels I think..
Jaws is a masterpiece, Spielberg did an amazing job. I think a lot of people at the time wanted to give a lot of the credit to Verna Fields' masterful editing and John Williams legendary score for its overall impact, but history has demonstrated just how talented a film-maker he was.
As a companion piece I'd strongly suggest watching Jaws 2 after, as even with a whole bunch of returning talent both in front and behind the camera, the drop-off in quality is immense. Its not a worthless waste of 2hrs by any means, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original.
It may have a "better" shark -at least until the end where its exposed in all its rubbery glory- but the way its used just doesn't have a fraction of the threat and impact of the original. Its kinda funny too because the script employs it basically in exact the same way as a maniac in a slasher movie; if Michael Myers was a fish... hoo boy!

I see. Yeah it's been a while. Well it's nice my main memory of some scenes are from the original. The 80's where traumatizing/brutal and awesome as a kid.

The shark still looks better than the CGI stuff we get. Like it looks fake but is still very obviously a real physical object, whereas CGI can make a shark look real in terms of recreating how a shark looks but still hasn't reached the point where the mind is completely fooled.
They are actually very similar overall, but the characters of Brody and Hooper are different. Also Brody's wife tells Hooper her interracial rape fantasy and then they fuck. Also the shark just dies from the barrels.
Never gave Jaws a go, solely because sea-related stuff very seldomly catches my fancy or attention (with rare notable exceptions) but my mother swears by it.
