Any hype or expectations for the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game?

It's not my genre at all. Zero hype.

I did actually watch the trailer yesterday though and had to admit it looked kind of compelling. Haven't really seen anything this explicitly "you are the serial killer" since Manhunt. I'll try it since it's on GP but I don't expect I'll stick with it. Guess we'll see.

I'll check out the inevitable kills video to see how gruesome it gets but that's about it. Seems like you'd see everything there is in like an hour.

I feel like these kind of games would be better served with with a centralized game that adds in killers and settings from different franchises to add more variety. Crazy it hasn't happened...

I'll give it a shot. I liked Friday the 13th SIGNIFICANTLY more Dead By Daylight, so this being developed by Gun is already a massive plus in my book.

At the same time, I'm just not nearly as big of a fan of the TCM series as I am FT13th.

Dead By Daylight.

Dont know if you are being sarcastic or not, but Dead by Daylight has every killer in the world and then some

And thats why I believe this game will fail. Dont look like it has some unique gameplay mechanics, so once the TCM setting hype wears off, you'll have pretty much the Dead by Daylight experience without the variety

not into this type of game

that trailer looks relatively rough. worse than the F13th game. I do hope it brings some good strategy and improvements to the genre though for fans

I think it's going to be a lot like Friday the 13th, or Evil Dead, or Ghostbusters, or Predator, or any other number of lowish budget asymmetrical multiplayer games relying on a niche nostalgic license that inevitably loses all momentum after a few weeks.

Very hyped, very excited. Loved what they did with Friday the 13th, just so sad how the case stuff went down. I got a key hours before the last playtest was over and didn't get to check it out myself. But I was absorbing content the entire time. It looks like a ton of fun, especially if you're a fan of Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or just a fan of horror in general. One of my most anticipated this year.

Only concern I have revolves around staying power and content, but we'll see how that goes. Gameplay-wise, it's much more of something I'm into instead of say, Dead by Daylight.

When it was first announced with a teaser trailer I was like yes this is going to be a single player survival horror!right up my street!
Then i saw its a multiplayer online and my hype has dropped significantly.
Got it pre installed on game pass so will give it a go but I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop off it after an hour or so...well see on the 18th.😕

The technical test was cool but I just don't know what kind of depth it will have. It's unique from DbD in that there are three people on the killer side instead of one.

It will really boil down to how well everything is balanced, and what kind of abilities or upgrades you can make to the characters.

It's pretty much the main game I'm picking up this year. I'm a little disappointed that the escape options are still less involved than f13 and environmental kills seem excessively limited but the 3v4 angle is looking really solid so far.

I'd love this if it was a single player game, or at least couch co-op. Don't like playing online with randos.
From what I played of the F13th game it was good for a minute and then it wasn't , again they could of made an "until dawn" style single player type horror game. But they don't , so I don't buy.
Will wait for silent hill 2remake and other single player horror games.

I love the franchise, but this is not what the fans want. We want a single player experience as these multiplayer games do not have a long shelf life. Friday the 13th has been dead for sometime now, Evil Dead is dying off too. I did enjoy Friday the 13th, the gameplay was much more engaging than Dead by Daylight, Evil Dead is also fun for a couple hours. But TCM is not going to have bots so i dont see it lasting too long.

I liked Friday the 13th even if it was janky as hell. I hated Evil Dead and I much prefer that property to just about any other horror IP. I don't have much hope for Texas Chainsaw Massacre but it is on Game Pass so I'll give it a whirl.

I guess I'll have to set aside some time to try it near launch. I can finally say I tried this genre if nothing else.

Pass for me. I feel the lack of map variety (you could do the family home, the gas station, the slaughter house…..and?) would make the game grow rapidly boring. I enjoy quite a few TCM film installments, but I don't think it's a good fit for a long-lasting asymmetrical game.

Dead by Daylight is toilet.

Friday the 13th was WAAAAAAY better. I've had kids yelling in the mic crying like Jason was in the room with them while playing that game. It was funny as fuck.

I'll probably get this eventually so I hope it keeps a steady player base and doesn't die before then.

While that's true, the lawsuit forcing Gun to stop development on it shortly after release (a year-ish iirc) certainly really didn't help. They had a decent amount of post-release content planned for it but ultimately were literally not allowed to work on. Paranoia sounded really cool, but my favorite part of the game was also all the chaos going on with the other counselors.

I really want to know what the game would have looked like today had Gun never ended up getting the Friday the 13th license and continued to develop the game as the homage to the series (and other 80s horror movies) like they initially announced it as:

I also feel vindicated that I'm not the only one in this thread saying I preferred the gameplay of Friday the 13th over Dead By Daylight.

It was a shit movie (decent kills though), but the town from the Netflix TCM would make a fun map.

There's another Friday the 13th game in the works right now, but unknown if it's going to be a single player experience.

I dont see how people find dead by daylight fun, you just run around and do qte segments to fix generators.

What did you like about f13 way more than Dbd

F13 was designed to be a game made around fun primarily. Dead by Daylight wants to be some shit fake eSport Fortnite type horror game. Tipping palettes over and jumping over walls gets pretty redundant fast.

-tons of killers with different abilities. Playing as them or against them offers different experiences
-lots of different perks letting you make different builds
-tons of map variety
-lots of IPs covered (and Nicolas Cage!!!)

I haven't played a lot of Dead By Daylight but are all the map objectives the same (power up x number of generators to open the exit?). While it is way more competent than Friday the 13th, the popularity always surprised me a bit and the core of the game always felt more like a distraction than something to sink hundreds of hours into. With Friday the 13th, it actually felt like you were taking part in a movie where Dead By Daylight feels more contrived. On the flipside, they Dead By Daylight team has done a wonderful job supporting the game with content and securing licenses which certainly helps with the popularity aspect.

True, ultimately you want to do gens, but you're also evading the killer, using stealth, freeing teammates from hooks and healing them, etc. And you can use perks and items to suit your preferred focus. There is something satisfying about a killer rushing back to the hook when they know someone has been unhooked only to find the teammate has fully healed that recently hooked survivor rapidly fast due to my perk build. Take that, cheap ass tunneler!

And again, the killers play differently with their different powers and you have to strategize differently against them. A match against Legion is going to play somewhat differently than a match against Pinhead.

The details of the IPs in a few of the maps are great too. Seeing all the references to Midwich Elementary from Silent Hill 1, and the RPD from Resident Evil 2 make me very happy. Shame they had to remove the Hawkins Lab from Stranger Things due to losing the license (though anyone who owned Nancy and/or Steve got to keep them, the maps are always free so no customer got screwed over).

For the record, I did enjoy F13, but the slow release on content did take its toll on me. Also was annoying to die in a match early and be forced to wait for it to conclude to get the EXP (maybe they fixed this, I can't remember). Also, getting a match took way longer than DBD, getting 8 people to wait patiently in a lobby is less likely than 5 people.

The song on the radio that could be played was fucking peak though. Still jam to it occasionally to this day. Crazy the song came out in the 2010's, feel totally 80's to me.

I'm absolutely sick and tired of seeing these asymmetrical multiplayer games, even though I haven't played a single one of them. It's mostly because they just poach those classic 80s movie IPs for a quick asset flip using the exact same gameplay formula, only with a different monster/villain to chase around. I'd love to play an actual story-driven Predator game, or an Evil Dead or Hellraiser survival horror, but instead all we get are those low-effort MP games and it pisses me off.

At least Aliens hasn't been wasted on this shit yet.

If you think any of them follow the same gameplay formula you are wrong as hell. I do agree in that I wish they wouldn't waste these IP's on multiplayer games that'll be dead within a month or 2 of release though.

On topic, no, I'm not hype nor do I have high expectations. I was hype, but then played the test and I hated it. TCM is probably my favorite series in horror as well, so quite the letdown.

I realize that some of them feature some slight variations on the formula but the idea is essentially the same - a group of scrubby characters against a single OP baddie. Although you do have some specific offenders like Dead By Daylight that basically treats those classic characters like DLC skins, or that one company who keeps churning out these games whenever they can get their hands on a different movie IP.

And yeah, the fact that these games usually don't live for very long makes it look like a "get-rich-quick" scheme even more. Just pocket that money from the first few weeks of sales, and move on to the next property that will attract a different group of suckers.

I haven't played either of the two in years so DBD could be completely different now, but DBD felt a bit more e-sportsy to me and I felt like generally, game-to-game people were a bit more try hardsy, competitive, and toxic than in FT13th. Friday the 13th felt more casual, fun, and funny, and I think overall did a much better job at feeling like an 80s slasher movie than DBD did. I also remember feeling like the movement in DBD just felt clunky.

The problem with dead by daylight is that it isn't a horror game. It's an arena sport with a horror theme.

Okay, so sounds like not much has changed then. That's really why I wasn't feeling it when I tried it years ago.

Imagine watching a horror movie, and the big evil evil is bumbling around running up to doors that can't open, and laboring to rev their chainsaw.

That was the first minute and a half of this game, before I shut it off. I'm assuming this is another DeadbyDaylight/Friday the 13th/Predator/Bigfoot game?

I'm not going to find out after watching Leather Face struggle to navigate the environment, and use his signature chainsaw. This ranks with that ign journalist trying to play Doom.

So many of these asymetrical games are basically the same thing. Which one is the most popular? How will this take their audience?

I bet it doesn't even have Nicholas Cage.

I would have bought this game, but the multiplayer aspect kills it for me. I don't want to depend on other people to experience this world. Same with Friday the 13th. It was cool for the first couple minutes and then it was boring. I had to read about the Easter eggs and how to kill Jason. That sucked worse than the Friday the 13th game on NES.

Maybe if this game bombs in player count they'll rethink using the IP. I don't expect these franchises doing anything but whatever streamers play. It might be a lost cause. I'm super disappointed about this. It's another game made for streamers.

I know I already replied to you, but this video randomly popped up on my Youtube recommendations today and he pretty much says exactly what I did above - Friday is an unbalanced, silly mess of a game, but that's really what made it so much fun, whereas DBD is the exact opposite - it's clear the developers care about balance and all that jazz, but something is arguably lost when they focus on that. To me, it's like when all of my friends in middle school wanted to play nothing but Smash with no items on Final Destination, but I've never been a competitive person so that really just led me to lose interest in the game.

"Low effort" is easy to say when you admit you haven't touched a single one of them. I've put tons of time into Dead by Daylight, F13 (though significantly less time there), Evil Dead, and even Resident Evil had a good one with Resistance. And from what I played of the TCM technical test, it has some cool unique elements as well.

There are also others not based off of popular horror franchises that have come and gone and also been unique.

Also funny you mention Alien, it is the next chapter to be released in Dead by Daylight 😆

How did evil dead stack up to the others? Never got around to playing it

Balance is a mess and they pulled some bullshit with the latest dlc so I bailed on it. It was fun but it suffers from having only 1 win condition and queue times are pretty awful.

I know, the news came out a day after I posted it, lol.

By low effort I mean pillaging popular movie franchises for nostalgia bait, and using them for the same recycled idea because that way you don't have to put a lot of effort into creating something new.
