Bethesda On Starfield's Big, Empty Planets: Not Every Location "Is Supposed To Be Disney World"

Tell me more about a game you clearly haven't played.
So if I play the game, will it become a different game?

The above videos are proof. If you're claiming otherwise -- that it has seamless true space exploration, which you don't just do via menu options and loading screens -- please share videos of that. We'll be looking forward to watching them.

helps keep expectations in check

Why would I do research for a game I have never heard about? All I did was watch the video you embedded and commented on it.
do at least the bare minimum, play the game, watch videos, do some research before commenting something stupid, even some of the worst reviews out there do this.

the game is on gamepass if u wanna give it a try

Always the extreme retardation to defend poor design choices of the favorite toys.

These other games do do it, and they do it better without all the need for FUD theatrics.
Why don't these games provide with tons of rpg content?
We can do the same for every game and nitpick it apart.
People are hang on stupid expectations.

List them.
NMS, Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen (scam or not it does it in a realistic and far more amazing scale), even Starlink. All last gen games, doing space exploration and the feeling of that of being in a spaceship in the vastness of space, far better. All of them with seamless landing and flying through planets. All of them with ways to hyper-jump to locations so you are "not traveling for hours on end, hurr durr," all them being last-gen games.

Now once again, imagine those games with the Bethesda RPG elements, as shallow as the convo wheel is in this one compared to let's say BG3. That would truly be the game that people in the threads before launch were hyping it up to be (minus the take off and land we all knew wasn't there) but EVERYONE assumed space was much bigger than an invisible box and menu navigation in this 'Todd Howard Presents: Han Solo Simulator'.

Blame marketing and the hype hounds, not I.

Reviewers were right to basically not play this like a Bethesda game.

The minimalistic style they've gone for doesn't help either. Puts me off exploring and I hate having to use the scan for everything

There are invisible barrier limits to where you can explore when you land and by the time you have 20 hours you will have seen copy and pasted activities multiple times, that gets boring very fast. Feels like Skyrim infinite quest quimick.

I'm nearly 7 hours in and haven't seen a barrier yet.

But then again I'm not running in a straight line for an hour trying to make a concern troll video.

I'm exploring in space. There is an overwhelming amount of places to explore...in space. Is that "true" enough for you, or is this just what your "social life" comprises of?

Took a break to get some tacos, too busy playing a game I'm enjoying to be bothered with sad little warriors like you.

It's like playing the actual game gives you different experiences, instead of just nitpicking videos.

I think there's some amazing levels of gaslighting in several reviews... the 10/10 are something to behold :messenger_tears_of_joy:

So we should "trust" you instead of believing the videos that we can actually see by players and reviewers on the Internet?

Got it.

Im enjoying this a lot dunno why people arent really talking about it

this game is amazing, i recommend for everyone that likes a good loot and shoot game, the only downside is no co-op

ppl arent talking about cause is a small developer, if this was a Sony or MS game everyone would be talking about.

Watching ACG. Karak seem to enjoy the procedurally generated planets, unless I heard him wrong.
Awesome that someone enjoys copy/paste locations we had since Mass Effect (2007), Skyrim, Fallout 3, etc., etc.

Is Bethesda even capable of doing anything differently?

I knew people would complain about this lol, this anyone with a sane mind thought that hundred of planets would be filled with life and civilizations?

2011 - See that mountain? You can go there.

2023 - See that mountain? Why would you want to even go there?

This industry has beat some people into blind obedience.

You explore space exactly like in Mass Effect.

The true Han Solo (or Star Wars in general) experience is dogfighting in orbit, then pointing your ship in some direction and letting the autopilot do its thing. Where Starfield fails is 1) the tutorial, which does not make it clear that you don't need the Mass Effect map to jump to another system and 2) is skips the hyperspace travel time, so you can't play holochess or do something in your ship while travelling.

Did they ever explicitly state that it was going to be an open world open space freedom to explore kinda game?
Saw a lot of people making up excuses for 30fps due to the "open world" that Bethesda is known for, making the implication this would be the same. Definitely much more impressive what NMS did back in the PS4 days.

He is right I think, lots of planets won't have life in galaxies .
Probably all of them unfortunately. My intuition tells me that. Maybe one fluke every billion light years. Something like Earth is probably the rarest single thing in the universe, but we don't really comprehend that, because, well, we are already here.

Sounds like they should do a collab with Sean Murray and make an overall great space game.

Anyways, as I said way before the hype started building. I don't buy Starfield for what it is today. I will buy Starfield in the future when mods and patches have turned it into something good.

Enjoying mostly for the main story/quests. Planets are pretty barren unfortunately and empty. And you don't even get to fly to any planet, you are basically constantly loading everywhere lol

Shooting also feels a tad off, and a hella ton to manage in inventory, menus, etc

I get the feeling this game wasn't thought through enough. It sounds like they tried to be NMS and Mass Effect, and couldn't decide on what they wanted, ultimately landing in this awkward place in the middle.

But then it begs the question. If the planets aren't interesting why are they there to begin with? Its always the main question when someone attempts these types of large galaxy/universal scale games.

The way they designed space exploration takes alway much of the magic a game like this should have, leaving for the most part just the mechanical aspects like resource gathering and loot. At the same time, all the empty space and plots of land separated by fast travels take away one of the best aspects BGS games have to begin with, which is the ability to just walk around, explore randomly and stumble onto interesting stuff.

The game obviously has some issues with its design.

The fact some reviewers are suggesting to power through the main quests in a open world "RPG" (when the main sell of it is the expansive aspect of it) to get to NG+ tells you there is some serious problems with the design of the game.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the idea of this game was there before these 2 games.

You have to micromanage shields, engine, and your three guns for fuck sake. They set out to achieve far more than what they delivered. It's so obvious

I think some people will be more disappointed on the planets that they can land all research stations, outposts and mining complexes look exactly the same, with same enemy placement and SAME FUCKING DINOSAUR BONES AT THE BOTTOM.
I didn't believe this until I watched a stream where the guy investigated a research lab and an hour later went on a different planet but the research lab was the exact same.

Life is like a blip moment. Think of the ants that is living in your garden. Their life is meaningless to you. But down there, there is an ecosystem that thriving and building it self.
That is life in the space.

Bethesda:
1: Talk as much Bullshit as they can to make people buy games, consoles and sign up for gamepass.
2: Get bullshit responses readied when gamers come asking about bullshit they talked about prior to release.
3. Call Phils if more bullshit is needed.

Off-topic, but I remember playing the alpha and thinking the shitty background was just placeholder.

This is an entirely reasonable take, and I was disappointed when NMS came out and every planet had some weird alien creature on it.

That said they had to have known that some people are weird and would want to walk around an entire planet even if it took hours, and would want a vehicle to drive around, but, you know, gamebryo...
Then people would complain that being able to travel completely around a planet is a HUGE waste of time and resources, and how stupid it is that they allowed it to happen. Gamers default mode is; drunk and go to bed.
