The preview I clicked was glowing. Didn't expect that, you could just as easily say it looked great and if you liked Spider-Man you would love this game.
You could probably turn them off and use sky markers. My only concern is that it'll suffer from open world fatigue with a million map markers. My only negative with the previous games.
THIS IS CRAZYY!!!!!
I played both the PS4 (100%) and PS5 (story Plus dlc) versions of Spider-Man, but literally only fast-traveled once, for the trophy. Loading was instant though. Not at all. You can't fast travel anywhere on the map in miles morales. Swinging speed is the same as spider-man. No wingsuit. Did you play them? You would know these things if you did.
Movies shot well can achieve a similar sense of scale and invoke that fear of heights / falling like those gifs showI do wonder though if they could stack small-to-moderate changes in order to at least achieve the effect to a greater degree. Some tweaks to the camera, a middleground on building scale and speeding up some very specific aspects of the traversal to compensate.
I feel like no matter how good the visuals and many other elements of these games get, that real sense of being spidey swinging across a vast city with that epic sense of scale and wonder is never going to quite come to fruition.
These games are great, but I see the shots from the movies -- and while I know we're never going to quite reach that level for the aforementioned reasons -- I still find myself longing for that 'epicness' in the games. Right now, by comparison, they feel small and quaint.
I didnt know that Marvel approached MS first. That makes it even more confusing. LolHard to say, but it was revealed during the ABK acquisition that Marvel offered to let Microsoft make the game before eventually coming to Sony. That would mean this wasn't related to MCU at all.
I didnt know that Marvel approached MS first. That makes it even more confusing. Lol
Btw, the MCU-drama was related to ownership of the IP.
Indeed completely seperate from the games.
Spider-Man 1 won the 3rd highest number of GOTY awards in 2018 - behind God of War (#1) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (#2)Well, we'll see I suppose. I think it's obvious it'll be in some conversations, as will almost every game that has an average of 8 or higher (including Starfield and even The Game That Shall Not Be Named), but it won't be on most finalized lists and won't win the actual award of the vast majority of sites and publications.
Spider-Man 2 looks to be doing everything that 1 (and Miles Morales) did, on a non-technical level, with seemingly minor changes. Neither of the previous games won any Game of the Year awards, that I know of, and I think it's silly to think this will.
Yup and if better the batman games it's gonna be easily top 5 game of this generation.Spider-Man 1 won the 3rd highest number of GOTY awards in 2018 - behind God of War (#1) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (#2)
Which is how many actual Game of the Year awards from major publications/sites?Spider-Man 1 won the 3rd highest number of GOTY awards in 2018 - behind God of War (#1) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (#2)

23 GOTY awards from media outlets (not counting user choice).Which is how many actual Game of the Year awards from major publications/sites?
Can you provide a source for this? Because, unless what you're reading is from stuff like Push Square, I'm not seeing anything like that.23 GOTY awards from media outlets (not counting user choice).
96.5% on steam user reviews they must be a bunch of fanboys.Which is how many actual Game of the Year awards from major publications/sites?
Pretty much any non-PlayStation-focused site or publication that enthusiasts think of. I'll even say the majority of sites that have a review on Metacritic, excepting the ones that only cover PlayStation.Depends on what you classify as major.

What do special about the wingsuit? Just faster? If you can instantly travel to any part of the map, why would you use it?

"Silly" to you maybe, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with predicting that, especially from a team of this caliber. Your problem is you get hung up on this notion of "more of the same", while being oblivious to the fact that many, many GOTY awards are handed out to sequels of previous games that, you guessed it, were very much more of the same.Well, we'll see I suppose. Indeed. Typical "because I don't think it "looks good", is GOTY material, etc, lets jump on the downplay hump wagon".Same shit everytime. People always doubting insomniac and do a 180 near/after release

You can only fast travel to a specific point in a district. What do you mean why would you use the wing suit? Why would you web sling either? Don't get your point.
Why are you downplaying every single thing revealed in the trailer? Looking at your posts, you seem to be on a mission here.
I'm not saying it's not a good game; I Earned a Platinum for it. I'm saying that it was itself already derivative of 4 Batman games and this new one is seemingly derivative of that, so the chances are very low that it wins any major Game of the Year awards.96.5% on steam user reviews they must be a bunch of fanboys.
why not just wait till it comes out? so far impressions sound amazing to me, if they are saying it takes hero games to a new level thats insanely high praise.I'm not saying it's not a good game; I Earned a Platinum for it. Game of the Year awards are not based on my opinion of a particular game, believe it or not; they tend to be based around the critical consensus. And I think the critical consensus will be that it isn't Game of the Year material. Certainly not a winner.
No. That would be like accepting PureXbox's calling Starfield their Game of the Year. It might be, but there's also a strong bias toward Xbox in general on an Xbox-focused site.So basically playstation is your problem.
There's a good chance it'll win a few, its competition is - Zelda, BG3, and Hogwarts, and games at the end of the year tend to fend better than those that come earlier due to the honeymoon period.I'm not saying it's not a good game; I Earned a Platinum for it. He's struggling to make valid complaints.
yup and none of those games will feel as good to play as spiderman 2.There's a good chance it'll win a few, its competition is - Zelda, BG3, and Hogwarts, and games at the end of the year tend to fend better than those that come earlier due to the honeymoon period.
Thnx for clearing that up.Here's the rundown:
Activision Spider-Man games were failing because Activision wasn't giving them enough budget - even though they're the largest independent publisher. Marvel realized that only a platform holder (Sony/Microsoft) would give these games that big AAA budget.
They approached Microsoft first. Phil Spencer declined them, citing the lack of first-party studios and that they would rather focus on their own IPs. Funny thing is that, at that time when Phil declined Marvel, Insomniac was working with Xbox on Sunset Overdrive (lol!). They didn't have the vision to partner with Insomniac on that.
Then Marvel approached Sony, and Sony said yes. They hooked Marvel with Insomniac (which was 2nd party at that time), and Marvel asked Insomniac to pick any Marvel hero they wanted to make a game on. Insomniac picked Spider-Man, and the rest is history.
To answer your earlier question: Sony does not own the Spider-Man IP. Marvel cannot include Spider-Man, without Sony's license/permission, in a film that has a runtime of more than 40 minutes.

I can see Spider Man taking most graphics and animation awards, probably acting awards also as it's very character/performance heavy, actual Game of the Year will be between several titles, they'll all win some. Those games will win the majority of the awards, but people have to remember, there are hundreds of awards given out every year. Even last year when Elden Ring was breaking records in GOTY accolades and a little not well-known game called "God of War" came in second, a couple other dozen games won GOTY from various outlets.
Fucking Wordle beat out Elden Ring for one such award. https://www.theguardian.com/culture...ource=Twitter&utm_medium#Echobox=1671636308-1
But Spider-man has no chance?

Again, why was this even brought up?
Famitsu didn't give it their Game of the Year; it went to Monster Hunter World and Smash Ultimate. A poll of Japanese developers, conducted by Famitsu, put Spider-Man at the top. Not the same thing. You keep changing and filtering down your requests though lol.
Anyway, my last response to you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_accolades_received_by_Marvel's_Spider-Man
You can check the numerous nominations and awards on this list.
Major publications like The Wired, Verge, Famitsu, etc. named Spider-Man their GOTY. It got nominated as a GOTY candidate by publications such as Eurogamer, TGA, DICE awards, GDC, Golden Joystick, and New York Game Awards.
Your original argument that Spider-Man did not win any GOTY awards is incorrect.
I will eventually get it, but not this year. I don't like the idea of spending $70 on games.
People will still be gushing over it when the awards take place. I don't think anything else is coming during that time that will steal its attention, so yes there is a very high chance.Famitsu didn't give it their Game of the Year; it went to Monster Hunter World and Smash Ultimate. A poll of Japanese developers, conducted by Famitsu, put Spider-Man at the top. Not the same thing.
I will concede that Spider-Man won Game of the Year awards from Wired, ShackNews, and The Verge (although I wouldn't consider any of them to be major gaming publications/sites, e.g., IGN, GameSpot, The Game Awards, etc).
So... with Marvel's Spider-Man having won three Game of the Year awards, out of dozens, do you feel Spider-Man 2, based on what we've seen so far, has a strong chance at winning enough awards to be considered the Game of the Year (a la Red Dead Redemption II/God of War 2018, Elden Ring, etc)?

It'll probably win Girth of the Year with 19 inches of Venom. When a guy is trying this hard to downplay and we've only seen previews, it is pretty obvious what is going on. Why are we even talking about GOTY at this point? Incredibly premature.
It won 23 GOTY awards, not 3. You can check gameawards.net.Famitsu didn't give it their Game of the Year; it went to Monster Hunter World and Smash Ultimate. A poll of Japanese developers, conducted by Famitsu, put Spider-Man at the top. Not the same thing.

6 week old build isn't it?considering the previews are from a 6-month-old build yet players are still calling it the best superhero game of all time, I have confidence it's going to be part of conversation. The only GOTY I really care about is the VGAs as I think they currently hold the same position as the Oscars for movies.
For me, it's going to be between BG3 and ToTK, but depending on the reception, SM2 could still produce a shock.
Oh? https://www.neogaf.com/threads/spider-man-2-preview-thread.1661109/post-2684031316 week old build isn't it?
