Massive FTC Leak: Mid Gen Xbox Hardware, Series S/X Refreshes, New Controller, and Game Plans!

I'm sure MS did the research on this and decided the gamble is worth it... but I think they are overestimating people's loyalty. When PS5 Pro launches, and MS has no answer? Sony already has all the games + more. If you don't offer me at least equivalent hardware, what am I even doing on Xbox? I'll be back to Sony in a blink..

more is coming

Yes it's actually games that rely on millions of sales to break even that are the ones low on innovation and risk, when you have a massive income stream with 30 million plus Gamepass subscribers you can take those risks and invest in games with more confidence.

Every post of yours. It must be exhausting.

I for one am happy that MS doesn't give me a disc drive with their refresh, because it saves me from cluttering my room, and that's totally worth the price increase of the games with no discounts anymore to combat the physical store prices. /s

Thank you Xbox, I just spat my tea all over my keyboard.
Regardless of it being farfetched, wouldn't all digital shit on emerging markets? Hell, even their biggest markets have lacklustre Internet infrastructure in many places.

This is why I still believe even PS6 will have a disc drive, detachable or otherwise. Switch 2 will still support physical, etc.

So you're OK with same console, same price, worse design, all digital? 🤨
Worse design is subjective. Price drop could possibly be on the way, or at least I would hope so.

Beyond that, yes. I don't think mid gen refreshes should be a thing in the industry.

What a day it would be to "leak" a little more info about said PS5 Pro
If it really exists, and if they increase the power by at least 10% 🤣. I'm quite sure that when Sony does a Pro console it will be around 20 nothing meaning t flops with some other new tech inside, battling an aged refresh console. What the hell are MS thinking this was a good idea?

I'm surprised Dishonored is even getting a sequel. Have those games sold at all? Someone high up at MS must be a fan. Probably Phil since he's just a gamer like us!
Dishonored 1 sold great, Dishonored 2 not so much. I think it's a general problem with the sequels in the immersive sims genre. They expand on the story and the mechanics of the original so you need to be a fan of the previous game to find them entertaining and actually want to buy them.

Apart from givin' fuel to the console war and appease some of the more hardcore audience, I don't think there is any benefit for Sony to launch a pro console in today's scenario, specially if Microsoft don't follow suit. Their focus should be on making PS5 cheaper and increase their base.

They can do both and they will

This is by far the worse console generation we ever had and with MS going with a simpler "refresh" makes it even worse. The PS5 Pro will need to really blow it out the water to save this generation. If it was up to me this generation would start yo die off in 2024 with a new generation starting in 2025 not these refreshes/Pro versions. SSD's is all we got this generation, which is pathetic.

Aside from all the embarrasing personal email leaks, they really leaked their big ass announcements for the next 5 years right here lol. What a shit day to be Xbox/Phil Spencer.

How the hell can all of this evidence be out there of MS attempting to buy the entire industry and the FTC not see this as a clear antitrust issue. The FTC is clearly useless.

This is the MS of the 90s all over again.

I say this every time I see this sentiment but here we go.

Components are cheaper. You can refresh to use cheaper components (Sony has already refreshed internally like twice since launch). Even considering development costs which companies are always doing anyways it's cheaper per wafer, and cheaper components in general.

When it comes to size. Smaller console size means smaller packaging which means smaller shipping.

Every tiny little decrease in size/cost means more profit and/or lower cost to consumers.

Then you also have need for new marketing which can lead to more sales due to attention because you have something new which is exciting for consumers.

On the PlayStation side even if the refresh is only 2cm smaller it leads to more profit. Even if you only save $5 per console all in when you sell 50M…

Even the Xbox One S All Digital was done for two reasons. Profit and a chance to test the market for the Series S.

Microsoft knows they are losing and this console might be a test to see what they can get away with. They can take the loss and it's not like the decision is make or break. It's already break just might be more so.
I still don't see any reason to upgrade.

Rather than a Pro console, MS is going to announce that after extensive testing they are going to add boost clocks to all Series consoles giving everyone a Pro console for free.

I would not be surprised if that new Series X model was going to replace the series s.

Told people on here, once Xbox can scrap the series s they will do so because they did the same thing with the Xbox one and Xbox one S models during last Gen.

Sure, I just don't think it is a good idea, look at Series S and X, is just extra work to validate your code to two different SKU's, and we can experience situations where the studio is too ambitious with their game and let the base console in a poor state of optimization.

The last time around they had a good motive to make midgen refreshes, we had a long gen, 4k TV sets exploded, and their base consoles can't output the resolution causing players to rely on the TV upscale that in some instances can introduce input lag.

I doubt it. They just put out a new Series S, and it's apparently 75% of all their consoles sold.

Wasn't that info from a year and half ago when the x was more supply constrained, and the s was the only option? There's been a lot of info today so I may be misremembering. I'd be curious to see what the split looks like now.

It literally says in the leaks they are planning a new Series S too.

No idea. You might be right. I just can't believe anyone still thinks they are getting rid of the Series S after stats like that. I knew it was impossible before any of that came out. It's literally their main system.

Never happened with PS4 Pro vs PS4...

They will make games for the base model first and then add bells and whistles for the Pro

If anything, they won't exploit the full power of the Pro model but there's no way they will neglect the base model that sells so much more....

Not happy with this, personally. I love most of the new features, but the death of physical for Xbox makes me very sad.
Lets be clear, physical was already dead, if MS servers went dead tomorrow having a disc of a game in this gen wouldn't allow you to actually play the game most of the time.

I'm not a fan of this at all, this coming from someone who has went 100% digital. I strongly believe all games after a set period of time should release a master "all patches, offline" version for preservation.

Wishful thinking by fanatics, an upgraded Series S is in the leaks, just the design looks the same apart from a USB C port on the front.
