Massive FTC Leak: Mid Gen Xbox Hardware, Series S/X Refreshes, New Controller, and Game Plans!

Anyone who though Xbox wasn't releasing a PS5 Pro competitor was a delusional fucking idiot. And there it is.

Pro will be $599 max, but I can see a digital only launching for $499. At that point, refreshed XSX looks like a terrible proposition.

$499 for the pro with a rom ? Overly optimistic..

It will be great for consumer if they can bring the price that low tho

All digital is a hard pass for me. MS are clueless when it comes to what gamers want. So much for Phil and his talks of GAMES PRESERVATION. Hopefully they wake the hell up and at least have an option to add an external disc drive like the newer PS5. If they dont I am done with Xbox and will just enjoy my PS5.

Haptic feedback is about to get popular among our green rat friends 🐀
No longer called a gimmick.
Good choice in using the same tech Sony is using, Haptics using Voice Coils feels amazing, and is pretty easy to implemet. Once you try games with good haptics, going back to old rumble just feels wrong.

Selling the exact same machine as a "refreshed" model? I wonder what else we'll see from these companies.

That controller with direct-2-cloud? feature looks interesting though.

Downsized chip, more efficient power-wise, new controller, and doubled SSD capacity. Effectively a soft re-launch.
Yet they couldn't fix the damn Dpad. My Xbox is off 95% of the day (PC gamer). When it's on I'm watching youtube, twitch or lazily browsing the net with my controller.

Yea the slim is a no for me. But to be fair, I probably wouldn't buy a mid gen refresh anyways. I went Xbox One X last gen and didn't get a PS4 Pro. This gen I'm gonna get a PS5 Pro whenever it comes out.

Most gamers are buying digital today.

Of those that aren't, people are switching all the time and aren't gung-ho about physical.. the die-hards are a minority; not that your opinion isn't important. But you are in the minority.

i still feel like people are reporting that it's confirmed that MS is responsible, but what is the argument? it's just repeating what the FTC spokesperson said. what is the evidence that MS is responsible? there's nothing there.

i don't think it makes sense that the FTC would be responsible, but the reporting isn't giving a clear reason why.

IMO It's going to be the same as the Slim - digital but you can buy the external drive.

As for the price point, there really isn't any reason to sell it at a loss given the Slim. There's a reason why MS didn't plan on doing a real mid gen refresh... manufacturing costs are going up. The Pro is going to be a targeted device at 30 fps haters and not much else.

Minority? Aren't most Nintendo games sold today still physical? Last time I checked the Switch had sold more units than Sony and Microsoft combined.

I don't think the numbers are quite so drastic if you remove "digital only" games, but IIRC even Nintendo several years ago overall moved past 50% digital for games that are sold in stores.

Early in the gen they weren't, but things are changing, pretty quickly.

Granted the biggest market, mobile gaming on phones, doesn't have any physical sales.

We will see.

However the cost structure isn't the same between the two. Sony is selling quite a bit more units so the scale is greater which enables fixed investments into new APUs. The comparison isn't apples to apples in terms of manufacturing.

About the design, its a family frienly design. The Xtube X when placed horizontally allows your cat to play with it.

Terrible to see MS pushing for a digital only future already. As i predict this model will replace the current one that is the only one with a physical drive. Sony about to do something identical buy they still designed the new console to be able to attach a physical drive.

That new console design looks nice.

Not going to buy it, but it looks nice.

Same here. I like the looks of the console but damn that controller is butt-ugly as hell. Can we use our old controllers on the new model not that I'm buying one with the same specs and digital only.

This may be the first interesting generation since PS360 in terms of hardware if one or both competitors go with ARM. Seems like it will be AMD only in terms of the GPU though.

I missed that info, if that's true they have no idea what they are doing. What's the sense of doing a refresh of two skus?

They might as well wait until the new gen.

If it's just a shrink to N6 it's relatively straightforward apparently. Dunno how much AMD would charge to do the R&D but maybe as a twofer is not a big deal?

The files were uploaded by Microsoft themselves.
Microsoft redacted the files but forgot to remove the attachments, some Era user found them.
It is Microsoft's fault, it's their own incompetence. They are not only extremely bad at protecting user data they also can't keep their own private information safe.

I don't quite understand how they are getting 15% improvement on power draw with that 6nm process, I don't think it's that big of a step
It makes sense. PS5 6nm revision draws 10% less power and since the relationship between clock and power draw is not linear, XSX can easily see a 15% reduction in power draw compared to PS5 10% since it is clocked 20% lower (1.8GHz vs 2.2GHz). Also, no Blu-ray drive.

No, he said it's at the end of the beginning of its life cycle. THAT is quite different from what you said. 🙂

Yeah, I was already corrected. Anyway, I shouldn't get involved, I honestly don't care about any of this stuff. Sorry for confusing people!

I can probably count on one hand the amount of times a disk has been in my Series X...

What kind of masochist is using disks these days..?
Psychotic behavior.

You people would have wanted the ipad to be a portable dvd player.

Maybe people who don't want to waste money? At least in Europe physical is significantly cheaper most of the time. Then on top of that you can get part of that investment money back by reselling games. The $100 more you paid for the console doesn't take long to make back.

Now if digital games were cheaper than physical, as they logically should be (zero manufacturing or distribution costs except for some server bandwidth), I'd be with you. But that's not the case. And once physical is no longer an option at all MS and Sony can charge whatever the hell they want. So yay digital future!

This is the shit I've been saying I wanted since this all started 😂

Let it slip boy let it slip

You have been wanting less consumer rights and less choice in purchase decisions? Why?

Or are you talking about leaks from the FTC since the whole buyout started?

It offers 18% higher transistor density. Smaller transistors means smaller distance the signal has to travel.

Great looking redesign and more than happy to sacrifice the drive I've never used for double the storage, makes more sense for Gamepass and the 30 million plus customers, always said Starfield would push them over that figure.
These games on top of the announces line up is just incredible, going way past the 360 era now, greatest first party line up in history.
Good to see that we have next gen in the pipeline too, always thought the naysayers were wrong again.

This is the issue. Gaming is not an investment (unless you plan on being a professional gamer). For most people, it is just entertainment.

I don't mean an investment as in something you hope to make money off. Replace that word with "money" and maybe you'll understand. Spending less money is preferable to spending more money for the same thing, especially when you can get some of that money back later. More money for more games (or other stuff you want to buy).
