Ah yes, of course. This would be Sony, who never, ever state that a game is not coming to a platform… before releasing the game to that platform. "We believe in generations".

If you believe that marketing blather, then I don't know what to tell you. GT7 on PS4 does not play or look demonstrably different from the way it looks and plays on PS5. I don't believe for a second they just suddenly decided to put it out on Ps4 so soon before release. And it clearly does not push the Ps5 all that much.

I'm sure the next GT game will show that too you very obviously.
Yh gt7 is and was always cross Gen.

My only issue is that the next gt game is likely 4-5 years away.

It's strange, looking at the brightness and color of the taillights, I remember Forza Horizon 5 rendering it in the same realistic way as GT7 instead of that flat red tone of Forza Motorsport:

Definitely an area for improvement, particularly knowing how good the new Motorsport looks at night.

It does. Is that PC footage? The reflections look really high res. But there's no water splash anywhere at all, kinda weird.
Reflections are quarter res even on pc. lol

There is water splash in other footage. I'm guessing the rain and track conditions are dynamic. Water spladh trails are better than both driveclub and gt7.

I know, but still, the track is wet, there's even reflections everywhere, so there should be splash.

Ray traced reflections are completely borked or intentionally limited (optimization) in this game. No reflection of other cars from player car. Not sure why Microsoft saw the need to release this in a unfinished state. Another 6 months to a year would have been enough iron out a lot of visual inconsistencies here.

I looked ingame, photo mode and replays and at least on PC with max RT settings, all the cars reflect each other.
It's just limited to cars within a 10 to 20 meters radius or so.

I can see my car on the other cars, and even other cars reflecting each other when overtaking closely.

I could also see my car and others being reflected on the angled windows of the Catalunya track.

Also, when cars are passing under a bridge, they individually reflect it, but they will also all reflect it once again when your car passes under it as the fallback cubemap includes it and is used on all cars.
Track elements in RT are limited to a certain radius too, you can see the RT/cubemap limit when looking down the windshield.

When in photo mode, pressing X while a car is in the center of the screen will make that car the center of the default reflection cubemap.
That cubemap is also used on the cars being reflected in the RT reflections, you can see it change when looking down the windshield to see the reflection of another car and pressing X to target the car you are looking at. If the previous target was another car, all the cars will have their cubemap updated, including the cars in the RT reflections.

I think GT7 looks better, mainly because of the lighting. It just has better contrast or something? Forza looks kind of flat and washed out, although hopefully that can be mitigated somewhat with gamma correction.

Having said that, I feel like Forza's presentation is more dynamic and technically impressive, the way the reflections look on the inside of the windscreen for example.

But let's be real, racing games are getting so close to genuinely photorealistic these days. Both games are super impressive!

I've just done a little video of what the rain looks like in GT7 without the comedy red colour applied to the car.

Never drove the car before so it's all over the place.

It's also in 120hz, raytracing/graphics mode. It's probably going to look shit as it's only going to go up to 1080p I ran the replay afterwards to if you want to see raytracing in the game.

just noticed I still have sports tyres fitted, no wonder....

This video showed up out of nowhere in my YouTube feed, as I'm not familiar with the uploader, but it's very interesting.

It shows cars in GT7 casting shadows when illuminated from behind, as well as headlights illuminating signs on the track. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't see this happening on Forza.

Yeah, I too saw this video. GT7 looks definitely better here. But overall GT7 night time and weather is average at best. Some one metioned NFS 2015 in night time, that was impressive for its time. Some how Forza has made GT7 look good lol. Just get to show what a mess they have made with this game 🤷‍♂️

I mean, GT7 does look good, as does Forza. These aren't bad looking games by any means, it's just that people expected more from a next gen only, "most technically advanced racing game".

The new video is much better. Those windshield reflections make all the difference for FM7, looks much more realistic, however in car view mode, I like the prominent shadows on the car view in GT7 and the contrast, but the downside is the shadows are rough looking, like jigsaw puzzles.

Cockpit view win for Forza
Trees are lit better in forza, blacks looked crushed for GT7. Win for Forza
Car view mode, blacks look nicer on GT7, shadows more prominent albeit rough looking. GT7 win.
Sounds. Forza by a mile.

Winner Forza for me.

Graphics comparison aside, am I the only one bothered by the fact that there is NO background music while racing? Even GT7 has music playing in the background when you race. Without music, Forza Motorsport just feels unfinished to me. Given how music is such a big thing in the Forza Horizon series, I would think Turn 10 would put at least some priority on a licensed music soundtrack.

Well as promised here is the first batch.

Full 4K direct captures from race mode with 1 ai car on track. Open the same image 2 times in different tabs and go left on one and right on the other. That way you can flick back and forth to see the difference fullscreen. This way i can spare lots of space in my posts since i have lots of comparisons.

excuses excuses.

literally the worst driving i have ever seen. i was like what is he doing. lmao

Rain looks much better in 3rd person mode. Ngl, didnt expect rain to be that heavy. big upgrade over gt sports.

cockpit mode rain effects are really bad. rain droplets could look a lot better. overall, its still looks way too muted in comparison to forza rain.

Bandwidth limit exceeded from imgbb unfortunately, but the Lamborghini interior comparison speaks volumes, GT7 looks gameish in comparison.

RTAO is a game changer and I hope we see RTGI on top of it in the future.

From what I've played so far. GT7 definitely has better more realistic lighting and car models. The lighting in Forza is more artistic than it is realistic. Neither are bad. But Gram Turismo 7 has far more detail especially the interiors of the cars

At this point it's more like a matter of preference.

All of the comparisons between gt7 and forza posted here are using heavily edited forza pics or taken out of context without taking into consideration the different times of day and lighting conditions, just to favor gt7.

This gen has been pretty underwhelming overall. if graphics are not got going to be substantially better, then the game design and presentation should be on point.

RT reflections or not, the half rate update makes them stand-out for the wrong reasons. It's distracting in a bad way. I can level that same complaint at GT7 as well. I feel like optimisations should be made to make cars on the track look pristine, reflections and everything. Hell give me full rate reflections on my car and half rate on everything else if you must. 2023 and this is still something we have to deal with, it's kinda crazy.

It's a bit shit considering many racers on PS2/PS360 had fullrate cubemaps. Same for games having distant characters animate at 15 fps or something, I don't remember ever seeing those cuts on PS2/3 games. Same for track shadow maps updating at low frequency, load up GTA 4 on the 360 and the shadows while not great move in a smooth manner.

Its even more baffling when you realize the non-RT mode is targeting native 4k 60 fps. Um just increase some of the visual settings to match the high PC preset?? the ultra cubemap settings on PC have full rate reflections.

DF found that in a lot of settings, xsx is using low to below low settings on the xsx. These were the RT mode settings, so maybe the performance non-rt mode has better settings like fullrate cubemaps.

Tighter camera is better for sim racing (although if you sim-race you probably 1st person).

Meh, the digs against the gt7 are golden.

One of them looks and feels like a bumper car simulator:

This video created by some xbox fanboy on twitter is using this a lot and its fake. First the contrast of the car in GT7 is not how it looks in-game. Some say he is using PS4 footage. And also, this is not how full wet tracks look like. Fraud comparison…

Still looks like the car is on rails.

Not only that but I bet they don't even know there's an option in GT to adjust the chase cam camera stiffness.

Spent a lot of time in both games, for me Forza wins by a bumper. Dont need to watch IGNs crappy video since I have the luxury of owning both games so I can decide for myself, unlike most ppl in this thread it seems 😂😂

Its just funny how there are tons of videos were GT7 looks different then what xbox fanboys spreading around. But this twitter clip is now being used as "proof".

When two similar games excel in completely different aspects, it is much easier to argue about those specific aspects rather than trying to pick a definitive winner.
In this situation, winning will be a subjective matter, depending on which elements of both games appeal to you more (for me, in terms of graphics, it will be the quality of 3D models and materials because i have always been obsessed with it).
Various bullshit tactics will be needed to determine an objective winner here, including creating scenarios in which the advantages of one, or the disadvantages of the other are more pronounced.

As long as some people feel the need to advertise the platform or product of choice, have the last word etc. reality will magically bend to their narrative from time to time. It's always been like that and the only thing you can do about it is just get over it. :messenger_winking:

From what ive seen so far. Forza is technically more impressive but GT7 still looks more realistic.

Now. Im a known GT7 fan, got nothing to hide. just saying how i see it.
I dont like how the cars look on Forza.. at all. Ive always thought polyphony pulled off the wet track with drying line pretty accurately.. where as Forza has gone for something that looks good for gamers. And it does. Forza does look damn good but realistic and technically impressive arent the same thing.

They also said it has a long life ahead of it, so it will be interesting to see what gets changed and improved. 120hz mode?
Lighting improvements..?
Physics tweaks?

Forza has a very dull look to it but real life does sort of looks dull whereas GT has overblown contrast and pristine game like image quality
It's apples and oranges tbh
Under the right circumstances Forza looks much better than GT but overall GT has a more cleaner gamey look to it

I'm liking and hating things on each side.
Reflections on the lower half of the car (left side) are horrible. Textures on second from last pic are too soft on left on the signs and grass and something is making the balloons and fencing look out of place, trees look weird on both in that pic. Shadows on the car on the right are a bit eh. Lighting on left looks really nice in these shots.

I think he plays on PC.

That's PC Ultra vs. PS5 correct?

Car model seem higher poly in Forza, which is usually not the case (at least in the console version). Materials also look better in Forza in the internal view. Trees on the other hand , the distant ones look like mush in Forza.

This track shows the biggest difference out of any track. The level of detail and overall quality is much higher in Forza.

Not to mention the PC Ultra vs PS4/PS5 comparisons.
