Xbox in general has this bizarre obsession with what I can only describe as "checkboxes" or bullet points. If something looks great on paper as part of a list they make a huge deal about it, even if the actual value and impact to the consumer is questionable or difficult to actually observe. That's why they never shut up about teraflops, RDNA2, # of studios, etc. Even with individual games, they focus on things like "1000 planets!!!!," "most advanced tire physics!!!!," etc. On one hand I get it that buzzwords are easier for their """brand ambassadors""" to astroturf all over the internet, but to the average person this shit doesn't actually mean anything.Considering Sarah Bond went out there and told the world Starfield was the most important rpg ever tells you all you need to know. They are trying to convince you of something through words and not through actions.
When in doubt, blame Sony! Just ask 90s SEGA fans!So your idea would be to force people to buy a product they DON'T want otherwise it's a monopoly???
Do you know how the FREE market works???
It's not Sony's fault if there is ZERO demand for Xbox hardware and software. It's their own fault
It's mad ain't it, as someone who likes to lurk more than post, I've always wondered why they love him so much? He's not a legendary game designer, he's not a coder, or sound designer, or system architect. He's just a loser pr guy who's just as useless as the leaders before him. Yet he has this cult of personality, for what? Xbox fans are just fucking weird if you ask meAnd people on here, he must be the most talked about figure in videogames on Neogaf. Not beloved, but endlessly talked about.
Yeah but the ferrari dude will be popular ...for influencers. That analogy is even better than expected.Microsoft fail over and over again because they simply don't get it. They think sizes matters: price, power, convenience, but what really matters is how the games make you feel. XBOX is the dude who thinks having six-pack abs and a Ferrari will make him a hit with the ladies; in reality, they're going home with the less toned guy, with a beat-up Ford who can make her laugh, feel special and doesn't constantly brag about himself.

What you are describing there is a charlatan, or con artist if you will. 100% agreeThat's because Phil is good with words. He's a good hype man but he's well and truly exposed now. Most people know he's full of shit. All words, no substance.
It's why I've been calling him gaming's politician for years. That's because Phil is good with words. He's a good hype man but he's well and truly exposed now. Most people know he's full of shit. All words, no substance.
It reminds me of the time of PS2, GameCube, and Xbox. GameCube used to have these crazy deals on all the time, I bought one and three games for £99 but I do wonder if you can devalue your product be being so cheap. Like it's so cheap people don't see value in it. If that makes sense?Xbox is at 389€, PS5 at 429€.
2024 better deliver, Phil Spencer said earlier this year he could see the roadmap and they would be consistently launching games, but right now all we know for 24 is Hellblade 2 I think? And that went from 23 to early 24 to late 24?
Insane if 23 isn’t rock bottom for the Series.
Xbox is killing it.
Spider-Man 2 30% bigger than Spider-Man 2.
I don't think they will discontinue either just to continue to keep up appearances but logically it would be the one with lower numbers if they decide to do it.Of course, you drop the console that sells worse than the other and it's more expensive to make....
I actually think this lowering of production due to cost and it taking store shelf space has already happened and people like Eddiegriffin started to call it "supply shortages" instead of seeing it for what it was. The fact that they didn't want the Series X losses anymore and they didn't want the store margins eating into it so they didn't distribute and flood stores with them, ending up with the only real stocked retailer being direct from MS warehouses from their website for a while. It was almost like a soft discontinuation. I believe they will continue to do that until their soon to come console launches just to avoid the negative press of completely discontinuing the thing. Why should they keep making it, if the units already made keep collecting dust on shelves?
Nothing to hope for. Sony clearly knows what they're doing and have very little trouble delivering. Now, yes. Let’s hope the future keeps delivering.
There is only one answer. Microsoft gotta buy playstation
Quite flattering to be honest - I always thought of him more as a used-car salesmanIt's why I've been calling him gaming's politician for years.
Phil also lurks - he's the most terminally online CEO I've ever come across. He knows exactly what the talking points are on here, Reddit and Resetera and he directly addresses them through the company's PR and marketing. He's liked because he very often says what gamers want to hear - it's why he talks about 'winning' so much, it's why he turns up on enthusiast podcasts and hangs out with influencers. Phil thinks being liked is the same as being respected - it's not. It's mad ain't it, as someone who likes to lurk more than post, I've always wondered why they love him so much? And the Forza where it is came out in October and it is as if it did not exist, it is not on the table, nothing is said about sales.
No release date yet.I live in the UK and own a Series X but I think it's time to trade it in against a PS5.
Does anyone know when the slim version arrives in the UK?
Maybe it is time for some more competition
The Last thing we need is an Nvidia and AMD situation...but saying that...AMD managed to claw back some small marketshare wins this generation.
I think there's deffo room for a third big competitor to step in. Apple or something.
Maybe it is time for some more competition
Yes to both. Why would they have to stack up when it’s comparing what each console sold in September with what each console sold in a later moment."Compared with September, overall market sales are up nearly 16%, PS5 sales are up 11%, Switch sales are up 10% and Xbox sales are down just under 20%."
Am I stupid and don't see something obvious here or do these percentages not stack up??
It's incredible that people didn't understand this yet. Xbox Series maybe are worth only for some BC games.Maybe giving away games Day 1 on PC Gamepass is not a great way to sell consoles.... And even those who don't want GP, just buy them on Steam....
Amazing strategy
I think apple could be brilliant in the console space, they already have a store, brand loyalty, loads of cash to get game deals done, and they make good hardware. Only thing I could see them struggle and I'm not an expert, is designing a console specific game API. But they are a software company too, so maybe they canMaybe it is time for some more competition

What about number of people who've played halo infinite lol.what about engagement numbers yoy for xbox?
it also has the 16% number there. So PS5 grew less than 16%, Switch grew less than 16%, Xbox even retracted by 20%, but everyone together grew 16%????Yes to both. Why would they have to stack up when it’s comparing what each console sold in September with what each console sold in a later moment.
Given Xbox has actually had some decent releases this year (HiFi Rush, Starfield, Forza etc) it is boggling that the month and the year to date is so far down.
Looking forwards to next year HellBlade, Avowed etc don't the cache to move the needle either.
I wouldn't say more but a better competitor. At least one that wants to butt heads with Sony.

I think Apple could be great. Probably tge best option that has fans with brand loyalty and a company willing to push certain boundaries.
We need something to keep Sony and MS on their toes and I don't think MS is delivering or they ever will. There's too much stink around the brand and I don't know how they can ever turn that around. I don't think they can tbh.
Because that raw power hardly matters against the PS5 (a system with its own advantages). Sure, they can do it themselves, but then for what? The Series S wouldn't see those pluses and since they treat it as the main current gen platform, it's extra work for little to no gain.I still find it hard to believe that Xbox is not capitalising on the raw power. They should be pushing superior fps etc on multi platform games. They got blown away the last three generations on power - this time they got it right with the X and they are still stuffed. I guess the S muddies things up.
This is crazy & Xbox still isn't putting up a fight for the holidays I'm not even sure what's going on with them at this point. They are giving up on selling the current Xbox Series consoles
During the early PS4 we had this Kaz funny meme thing going on and some xbox fans thought this was about idolising CEOs so we got crap like thisIt's mad ain't it, as someone who likes to lurk more than post, I've always wondered why they love him so much? Now you're actually catching up to the conversation from over a year ago, and I'll give you credit that you're actually the only person in the thread that seems to actually be concerned about a potential monopoly and lack of competition.
So now, how do you fix the unusually sticky hyper market consolidation if traditional competition metrics no longer work? Price cuts and cheaper system doesn't work. PS raises the price and sales go up. Cheaper games day 1 on GP doesn't work. PS raises the price of games and sales go up. What would you do to save the gaming industry from being locked to the PSN digital storefront almost exclusively? I propose (over a year ago) that you allow the Activision merger. PS will always have Call of Duty, but now MS has secured enough revenue that they will be profitable without question and they aren't going anywhere. They can keep experimenting to see if anything works and the console industry will still have competition.
We were that close to the edge of the cliff, but the gaming industry was saved with the Activision / MS buyout. Jim Ryan nearly had us all.

and they've been idolising him as the leader of the cult ever since.

They tried that card for the whole 2020 with an associated FUD campaign against PS5 hardware that lasted months.I still find it hard to believe that Xbox is not capitalising on the raw power. Maybe Microsoft can benefit from a stronger Sony. Basically to be in a situation where they recognise their mistakes and try to fix them. It seems the issue they have is they don't admit the issues they have. Always spinning everything in a positive light and never talking about their issues is where the problem is.
