ZeniMax Asia to be Closed in June

First Tango Gameworks, a department of Zenimax Asia K.K., and now the whole company?
MS truly showing signs of not stopping anytime soon.

I mean what else would they have to do? They don't manage any other studios, right?

Just cutting off the fat at this point. I don't doubt that other studios are coming though.

Still, hope folks over there land on their feet. Getting laid off sucks.

Were they doing anything other than overseeing Tango, though? I mean, if Tango is gone, what's the point of keeping the branch open?

Tango Gameworks wasn't actually called Tango Gameworks, it was called ZeniMax Asia K.K., Tango Gameworks was just a department name/brand name. So in other words, this isn't actually news and we've already known this.

You do realize this company is rather small, and most major publishers are making cuts, right?

Or I mean yes, lets go with what you are saying, they will be closing activision and all of bethesda next, followed by blizzard, mojang, and you watch and see! Definately not stopping here, letting them all go. :pie_eyeroll:

It's the publishing house for Asia, handling things like translations, packaging and distribution for their development studios (Not just Tango). It's not required as MS already has an office that does this.

None of the ZeniMax offices are needed now that MS owns them.

Can't wait to visit Zenimax Asia and see the great worlds and experiences they create together. Phil, probably.

And ZeniMax Asia K.K. was Tango Gameworks. Tango Gameworks and ZeniMax Asia K.K. was under one roof. When Zenimax bought Tango, they merged them into ZeniMax Asia K.K., Tango Gameworks as a brand only exists because Shinji Mikami fought for the company name to remain on he's games. So essentially what I'm saying is, if ZeniMax Asia K.K. is shut down Tango is also shut down. They're not separate departments.

Huh, that's what I said.
Either way, Tango Gameworks just constituted as a single department within Zenimax Asia, so the whole company getting closed seems to be news for me?

At this rate, you will have all the publishing and marketing staff at Bethesda Softworks laid-off sooner rather than later.
I didn't imply any of the later part of your post, you seem to be hurt.

The point I'm making is that Tango Gameworks as a studio did not operate as a company or a separate entity to Zenimax Asia. When MS shut down Tango, they were effectively shutting down Zenimax Asia, because that is how the original merger was.

That's fine, but then you went on to say "MS truly showing signs of not stopping anytime soon" which is clearly implying that this is a bigger deal than it is, many more to come, or you would have said instead "oh, that's unfortunate, but very related to Tango".
I'm not sure how you can walk that back now and say "oh, I didn't mean anything by it"
And really, MS doesn't need a seperate arm for publishing just for Bethesda when they aready have that in place for all the other studios.

That's not really how it works, you can shut down departments without the need of closing the whole company.
If Team Asobi was to close soon, I wouldn't expect Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. as a whole to be shut down too.
So, here's a better question: was it stated before that, specifically, Zenimax Asia K.K. was being shut down?

A shame your post is being ignored in favor of baseless warring.

I mean, I do believe that, so it's more of a matter of their importance to you.

They are seperate departments.
ZeniMax offices exist in different locations around the world, they're not related to Tango, they're the parent entity that handles publishing.

Team Asobi is a studio considered its own company, under SIE. Zenimax Asia is its own company, under Zenimax Media. Tango Gameworks was a team sharing offices with Zenimax Asia, all there games were copyright owned by Zenimax Asia KK. Tango was not considered its own company, it operated under Zenimax Asia. To shut down Tango they would've had to shut down Zenimax Asia, those Tango employees did not get consolidated to different teams, they got made redundant, and in order for them to do that in Japan, they would've had to shut down Zenimax Asia. It's just how I understood it based on the merger when Tango got acquired and merged into Zenimax Asia K.K. Maybe I'm wrong, but it makes sense to me.

Tango shared office space with Zenimax Asia sales. Tango didn't operate as a separate company.

No, it's not.
Team Asobi is a department of PlayStation Studios, a division of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., a Japanese company.

Now I get why you're confused, yes, that could be why they're shutting down the whole company rather than just the single department, but it's NOT required to do so.

Yeah, my bad, under Playstation Studio, not SIE. I always get this wrong since SIE own studio copyrights.

Why would they not be required to do so?

Same office, different tasks/departments.
Zenimax aren't developers.
Yeah I get that. I'm just not drawing a distinction between ZeniMax Asia K.K. and Tango Gameworks since the latter was merged into the former. Which is what I'm trying to understand here, I get Tango operated as different department, but they didn't operate a different company. Like I say I could be wrong, but I feel certain that this was inevitable.

PlayStation Studios is still just a division of SIE, so neither it nor Team Asobi are separate companies (like say, Polyphony Digital Inc.).
Why would they not be required to do so?
Because as I already told you, you can close a specific part of a company (a department) and that could be about it. Zenimax Asia as a whole is being shut down because MS sees it as redundant all around.

Phil Spencer should greenlight Burning Money Simulator:
Buying Studios to Them Down!!!
Phil could code this one himself.
He would just need to tighten up the graphics on level 3. When it flops Phil could shut himself down.

closing Tango was a mistake but the publishing arm and developer relations for Asia seems redundant since that would now be covered by Xbox Game Studios.

also from the replies people are acting like ZeniMax Asia was bringing over Japanese games, but its actually the opposite, it seems like mostly if not entirely were just handling bringing western games to Asia like Skyrim, Doom, Fallout etc.

For the sake of Bethesda i hope new "Skyrim" makes really good numbers, If It IS anything close to Starfield fiasco It may be their last Elder Scroll game.
