Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | Nintendo Direct

Looks solid! I sorta expected a bigger leap in game-logic after the Gamecube. (Animation, physics, collision, etc), just like Nintendo did with BOTW/TOTK.

But they're pulling these visuals of on a low powered 2017 tablet, and pushing all the resources there, so that's impressive in it's own right.

Obviously it won't be as good as if they made a fully native Switch 2 version, but there's still a lot they could ramp up with the new power level and DLSS within the same game and engine. There's PS4-PS5 titles I could point to. The 9 year old TX1 is struggling and has been for a while and a lot of cuts have to be made for that.
Yeah, but my point that it will still not utilizing new hardware (CPU, RAM, SSD). I'm trying not be negative here - It's understandable that Metroid series is in tough position and Switch 1 install base is enormous, so it's smart to release such game at the end of Switch 1 lifecycle. I'm a bit upset that Switch 2 will came in about same time so we are not waiting less for Switch 1 version. Kinda strange feeling but it's okay.

Honestly, I think the biggest takeaway from this Direct is that Metroid Prime 2 is likely getting the full Remastered treatment that the first game got. Originally, the rumors (that correctly predicted the first remaster) stated that Prime 2 was essentially gonna be an HD port, but not a full remaster.

Seems like since Prime 1 sold so well, Nintendo wants the full treatment for Prime 2. I doubt we'll get it before Prime 4 now, but that's just fine with me.

Dude it's a 2015 mobile chipset. What you saw is what the game looks like on Switch 1.

If you're needing more than that, Nintendo will be glad to sell you this game on Switch 2 instead.

DuDe..........sounds like you took my post personally sweet cheeks.

When i saw the footage, my initial thought (after not having played Echoes for a long time) was that this was the Prime 2 Echoes Remaster.

Poor trailer, at least we know its alive and in the post.
It really wasn't an inspiring trailer at all - a bunch of simplistic, old mechanics shooting at small and poorly animated enemies. It feels like they're using the Metroid: Prime remastered engine. I still want to hold out hope this is an amazing game, but that trailer wasn't great.

That's Metroid Prime alright.

I'm a little disappointed at how loud the opening of the trailer is. I didn't like how far MP3 went down a cinematic, linear route. Even the OST sounds more epic here which isn't always a good fit.

The ending inspired a little more hope - a small, contained room with attractive sights. Please, please branch a bit. OST is a bit more subdued too, although nothing to match the best of the previous games. Maybe the full version will be better.

Why are people saying this looks like a Switch 2 game? I didn't see anything too impressive or out of what Switch can do, it looks pretty much like Metroid Dread cutscenes which are the same graphics than on gameplay but from a close up.

I love metroid. But that was a bit meh for me and fell a bit flat tbh. It didn't really show me anything new etc? Early days though.

I watched it again to see if I was just hungry and ornery. But no. The trailer was underwhelming. It didn't impress nor inspire. It could have been any old MP game.

All it did is confirm they are going to release something.

Maybe a little weird, but I don't like that scene at all that has the humans shooting and whatnot.. Marines or whatever. Maybe I'm just cautious but that bit especially felt less Metroidy.. I don't want NPCs and whatnot hanging around so hopefully they are just window dressing to set the scene and everyone's dead by the time things get rolling.

Guess you haven't played MP3? I was also hoping they'd go back to the feeling of isolation from 1 and 2, but doesn't seem like it.

Was this running on switch one, looked slightly above what one would expect it to handle.
Looks a similar quality to Metroid Prime remastered, which is easily the best looking "realistic" game on Switch and runs at 60 fps. I'd say 99% of other games on Switch would give the impression that it can't produce graphics like this but it can in the right hands.

Why is everyone salivating over the Switch 2 in regards to this game? Are we fantasizing about this being the game we were HOPING IT WOULD BE, somehow magically on the Switch 2 with completely redrawn visuals, different assets, something that would blow us away?

We have no evidence it will be released on Switch 2, no evidence IF IT WAS it would somehow be superior in any way. If it was released on S2, it might just be a slight resolution increase, not some huge leap in fidelity, if Nintendo "cross-gen" releases of the past are anything to go by. THIS is the game we're getting, not something that magically looks like Doom: The Dark Ages when if/when it comes out on S2.

No, I bought Corruption but never played it, was planning to run through it before 4 comes at some point. Hearing this maybe I don't want to.. :( Not a great direction for Metriod IMO, like you say, isolation, being alone is what Metroid is to me.

Fair point, Metroid was more quiet exploration and space opera than the popcorn flick of say Halo Guardians, but there's a lot that's oddly cut about this trailer so maybe it's just that

I dunno.. this looked fantastic to me.

We know nothing about Switch 2. What if it's a Gamecube to Wii kind of jump. We know the returns have been severely diminishing for a long time now. I feel that people are focusing too much on the numbers, instead of what the numbers actually give us objectively.

It's still a good game, but yeah, much less moody. There's also less of a Metroidvania feel, because instead of exploring one large interconnected map you travel between different planets in your ship, each of which is pretty small.

no worse than the first trailer, but still a bad trailer.

However, it's hard to "communicate" a game like Metroid Prime in 2024

Was unimpressed with the trailer till the end.

Looks pretty fun, just the trailer was a bit off at the start. The ending scene was awesome though.

Hope it's more like Prime 1 and 2 and less than Prime 3.

Also, trailer focused too much on the action, which is the least interesting thing about Metroid, i assume it's for the mainstream crowd's attention.

I just want to play the game in the best conditions possible. Of course the skeleton will always be limited due to the target hardware being the first Switch but I want to experience such a long awaited game with all the additional belts and whistles possible.

edit No I'm not emulating it fuck off

That would be ridiculously disappointing. Wii U to Switch was already a GameCube to Wii jump, we need a larger one this time. We can't be stuck at PS3.5 levels for another 7-8 years.

I don't think one can overstate how good this looks considering it's running at 60fps on the original Switch. Retro is clearly pushing the hardware to the max and that's all we can ask. I'm not going to get hung up on how much better it'd look on new hardware, I'm just glad it exists and I can play it by next year.

I'm not alone then. I really thought I was looking at Prime 2 remaster thinking oh shit they remade it just like Prime 1, looks awesome! Whatever that was could totally run on current Switch at 60 fps.

It's 💯 % a cross-gen game that is day & date with launch of Switch 2. No question about it

I was about to post that this looks way too good to be a switch title, what you say makes sense brother, just the image quality alone is beyond of what the switch is capable of (judging by the video).

Bunch of miserable bastards in here, which isn't shocking. I mean, obviously it's going to look like Metroid Prime, since it's Metroid Prime 4 lol. The fuck were you expecting? I'm sure there will be new aspects to it that they'll bombard you with once the next Switch is revealed.

Can't wait for more Prime.

IT didn't look good. And I don't just mean graphics wise. But gameplay wise...it didn't scream new and exciting.
It's Prime 4! Go play Returnal if you're looking for similar vibes and completely different gameplay.

This looked excellent for what it is. Prime 4!

Nintendo showing that Switch 2 version lol i can't believe they keep the Prime remaster visuals in the bigger environments of Prime 4
im only dissapointed they didn't showed Prime 2 HD, but that implies they are giving it the proper remaster treatment and not the cheap bundle pack like the 'leakers' stated
Watch this game undeservedly score a 95 metacritic while the upcoming Doom game get an 87. Nintendo bullshit
both games are going to be amazing and among the best next year, just for different reasons gamers will be blessed next year
