I can only imagine how that meeting went: "Phil, this is going to stay just between you and 30 million other people, don't tell anyone else"

Hoping some people will buy the game instead of claiming it on GP? Good luck MS, you conditioned your playerbase to expect gsmes on GP, won't be easy to change it

If that's true, Microsoft is fighting a losing battle.

This is why I don't think they have a fruitful future as a potential 3rd party publisher. Their production pipelines/philosophy is screwed, and 30 million customers are used to not actually paying for games as far as Xbox is concerned.

Sounds kinda weird when Xbox execs do interviews about it being there day one.

At this point why just not have it on Game Pass day one if thats the case. Its really hard trying to figure out the strategy at times. All thats really gonna happen is those who already have Ultimate wont be buying CoD anymore. MS is imploding the Xbox ecosystem one business decision at a time.

According to Twitter randos lord incognito and sidvicious69.

Randoms claims Microsoft wil ldo something they are doing

Not sure about the other person, but you do now who sidvicious69 is. Thats Parris. He's now a random? Not calling him an insider or anything.

Probably more to do with some legal issues than anything else. Clause in the Sony stuff or streaming right I dunno but there is some reason. Maybe they also don't want to limit the income on new sales as people will not buy the full versions and pay 15.00 and play their fill of the game. Also do we know if the full game is being released on gamepass or just multiplayer or just single player campaign?

Also they state massively (whatever that means) promote so I assume we do get some promotion on it

Is it because it's not really true anymore except for the top tier, or because they don't want to lose $70 sales?

Seriously, I'm good through February 2027 thanks to Microsoft Rewards. You bet I've been conditioned to not pay for games. At least not unless they're actually good.
Are you going to keep subscribing after it expires provided it exists?

Critical thinking goes out the window as soon as Xbox is mentioned it seems.

The claim is that Microsoft will let Xbox advertise their product (Gamepass) but not too much. "Massively" marketing it isn't allowed.

And that's worth running with.

Nope. I'll let it expire and then maybe buy a month here or there if there's something I really want to play. I don't get new game FOMO very often but if I do I just buy the game. Other than that I've been waiting for deep discounts.

Yea that is what I did when my years of GPU expired.

Xbox is close to these shills.

So yeah I wouldn't dismiss this being true as they'll have access to people with that knowledge.

In other news, water is wet.

I dont know why this is news. They own the IP.

Edit:

Here so blind people can see. Day1 gamepass on the trailer.

If this is true, I wonder who isn't allowing them to and for what reason. I can see not wanting to undermine direct sales, but there's also been a clear intent to boost Game Pass subscriber counts for some time now too. Therefore, is the authority on this decision coming from some other party?

Remember MS has to be sneaky to bypass Sony advertising deals. Like that Destiny fragrance they did. Will the Xbox marketing team now have to deploy such tactics to circumvent their own masters?

August 2027 reporting in. MS Rewards has fully conditioned me that Xbox exclusives are 'free', and to never pay for indies. Though to be fair I don't like most indies anyway.

It is not like they promote Game Pass that much either 🤷‍♂️ You don't see marketing for GP anywhere outside of showcases and in trailers.
Is this sarcasm? I feel like the only ads I have seen the past 5 years for Xbox have been gamepass ads lol.

But back to the OP, I find this hard to believe. If it's true, why not just kill the service. They would clearly have no confidence in it and it's had to be a massive money sink the past 7ish years.

Microsoft continues to make some of the dumbest business moves. This is like Sony with PSVR.

How did this meeting go?

"Let's release a product that cost us a lot to crate and not tell anyone about it!"

Brilliant.

I'm going to assume MS as they want to sell the game to people.

I'm also assuming this means they are going to market the hell out of the game, but it won't be promoting getting it for "free" on GP in commercials and such as the marketing heats up closer to release.

This, after all the mental gymnastics here from folks claiming it made no sense to play COD on a long term GP subscription vs buying it outright?

Also, pretty hilarious thing to say when the game is multiplatform and will be on two other console platforms where there's no GP, as well as Steam where it's already pretty high on the best sellers list.

Huh? Such marketing restrictions run counterintuitive to what you would expect from a company that owns the underlying IP.

In this case, water is burning shit up.
If people are blind that is their fault.

Xbox/MS games are Day1 on their system. Any first party games they advertise is going to be Day1 on gamepass. That is their slogan. Whether gamepass appears or not won't matter.

I'm going to assume MS as they want to sell the game to people.

Yes, PlayStation owners and Steam gamers won't buy it and play it on GP instead 🙄

I think is not that hard, people buying the game at $70 provide more revenue compared to people just subscribing to GP ultimate.

Not if the user stays subscribed all year round to play the game every month until the next one shows up.

Brilliant.

You were told that Microsoft isn't going to market Call of Duty…and you believed it? Even when there's a beta coming up soon, even with the marketing videos for the Zombies mode they just released?

They dont want to lose too many sales copies to GP.

Similar to Sony putting a nickel's worth of marketing and heads up notice into their PC ports. Half their PC ports probably got a powerpoint slide or a tweet about it and thats it.
