INDIANA JONES New Egypt Gameplay Demo

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
It looks like a lot of work. Like, everything outside of tomb raiding just looks like a chore.

Mechanically, it seems a bit wonky with the perspective changes, and environmental navigation doesn't seem particularly smooth. Combat looks... fine? Not as impressive as I'd expect from MachineGames, but serviceable enough. It was also kind of weird seeing him just find valuable artifacts that are conspicuously placed on a shelf in a tomb... not a whole lot of unearthing going on.

I dunno. A lot seems off about it.

I like Troy Baker but i have a kind of burnout with that actor.
Seeems to hear his voice on pretty much every production.
I feel like i'm playing Joel over and over and over 👀.

Troy being Indy is probably the only thing about the game I don’t like.

Looks like a first person action adventure to me. Anyone who wants a third person action shooter in this setting will probably be happier with Uncharted. However, the game will probably stand or fall on how good the story is and how entertaining the puzzles and explorations are. In any case, if you expect Indiana Jones to be an testosterone action shooter, you're probably also watching the Yakuza or Rings of Power series on Amazon. That's the kind of projects where they shit on the source material and call it "creative interpretation".

It's funny how people conclude that the frame rate is bad when sequences are recorded/cut in 30 fps. In terms of performance, the ID Engine has always been very strong.

Let's see how it ends up. Microsoft Gaming has a special talent for getting mediocre projects out of good studios.
Yeah, wait and see, personally i'd like to know what Machine Games first pitch was, at the moment though it's not on my shopping list.

Nobody has shown up to say the combat here is brilliant. I can point you to some excellent online resources if you need help with your comprehension.

It’s just ludicrous that you expect combat from Indiana Jones - supposedly a professor - to be anywhere similar to that in Batman or Spiderman.

FFS, even Uncharted plays it smart with combat with clever use of cover and traversal to pick off enemies…and not jumping into crowds like Batman.

Uncharted is more of a shooter. Indiana jones not as much.

Have you seen an Indiana jones movie?

Tons of sequences where he takes on crowds of mobs

It's really off-putting when you hear the same voices again and again and again.
I dunno why they pick him so much.
He is competent and all and can use a variety of tones but in the end it's impossible to NOT have the impression to hear the same guy everytime.

Looks like last gen trash.

First person FOV is a huge wasted opportunity.

Another disappointment from MS coming soon. Sad to say it.

(edit: looks like combat could be fun for a bit however)

Nah. I can see this hitting 83-85 Meta. I expect it to be received well by the public too.

I'm not a fan of 1st-3rd person transition while climbing ropes or other things. Something screams inside me when I see that.

I know you need to do the memberberries thing when you license a big IP now, but it was cooler back in the LucasArts days when they didn’t just try to recreate the movies 1:1 and instead took a more expanded universe approach.

This is like…remember when Indy fistfought a big bald guy…remember when Indy solved a light puzzle in an underground chamber in Egypt…remember when…

I was thinking the same thing, especially with the bald guy.

To be fair nobody can do Uncharted like ND so unlikely they would best that if they went that route and I think they would be foolish to try. Tomb Raider on the other hand has had its day. Like I Said earlier in the thread I'm happy its not clone of one of these two, I found even U4 kinda boring tbh.
Even if you didn't want the Uncharted/Tomb Raider formula, something like the Hitman series based on stealth and puzzle solving evolved with a better fighting mechanic would have been a far better option here. At least you'd actually see the actor/character you're paying out the ass to license.

Tough to say until I actually play it. How do you know its a better option? I'm having a hard time knowing what the game actually is never mind deciding what viewpoint would work best. Besides Riddick and Goldeneye were some of the best games of their respective generations, ill hold off casting judgement on whats best for this game until ive actually had a bash on it.

After reading the PC gamer preview this doesn't sound too hot if they are correct, no matter which angle I can see the action from.

Guess we'll find out in a month.

I'm adopting a "wait and see" strategy. While it's great it's coming to PS5 - and LOL will play much better on PS5 Pro than Xbox Series X/S - I've been suspicious about this game ever since IMDB's supposed leak of Sweet Baby Inc. working on this game. If this turns out to be the case - heck, the guy on the Youtube video for the Indiana Jones game says it was designed for "Modern Audiences" - then I'm boycotting this DEI crap ASAP.

Its Indiana Jones set in the 1940's mate. The only Tranny's you'll be bumping into will be the good old fashioned transvestites. I'm sure you'll be safe.

Troy's voice acting is taking me out of it. I expect him to say any second "You know Ellie, we really are the last of us."

I'm still not sold on the first-person perspective which i've been critical of since this was first revealed. The moment where you see the silhouette of Indy cast as a shadow on the wall is cool though. We need a lot of that sort of thing to really reinforce that we're playing as him (which third-person view would've done all the time anyway but i'm not going to bitch about that again).

The moment to moment gameplay of stealth killing Nazis basically reminds me of a mythical new Wolfenstein entry in all but name. Not a bad thing as the stealth in those games was just about easy enough to cheese without becoming annoying, and it fits the clandestine Indy style.

Anyway it's on Game Pass so regardless of any pre-release criticism, i'd be stupid not to at least try it.

That applies to his melee and whip as well, and he would last longer with a machine gun! and it's in relation to the game being 1st person and looks like a shooter without being a shooter, that's what you do in FPS games in 1st person!, i think it should of been a 3rd person game now if it's going for stealth and exploration with hardly any combat except melee and whip.

If your going for realism then he wouldn't have survived any of the film's
Was this game ever described/advertised as FPS?

The combat is kind weird, but the low fps might be the problem.
Someone knows who is publishing the PS5 version?
MS stopped printing/distributing discs for Xbox in Brasil for years and it would be a shame if it doesn't get a disc version here, like the new CoD didn't...

Bethesda are down as the pub on HIFI Rush, i'd expect this to be the same.

As i said before, melee combat in 1st person just never feels good. The exploration in 1st person is fine, it can be more imersive but i notice when Indy used the whip to climb, the camera changes to 3rd person, so my question is why they didnt do the same for the combat sections?

Overall looks ok, seems like a faithfull Indiana Jones adaptation. If the game dosent focus too much on combat and the exploration and puzzle solving are interesting, might be an actual good game.

Or maybe like Thief:The Dark Project?

Honestly I'm just not a fan of FPS for story based games. Never have been outside a handfull of titles.

I get that FPS has it's adherents though. I feel like FPS titles are more at home on PC with a KBM setup, it's just not something I really love playing on consoles.

That looks super cool but that framerate... what the hell... many parts show FPS under 20... they better fix it... when is this coming out?

I'm worried that this is another game that is going to be rushed to market and will be another year before the game is complete and playable. However, I love Indiana Jones and the setting!

I prefer this first-person perspective MUCH better than the overly stale over the shoulder third person view we have been getting. Thank GOD it isn't another third person game like Uncharted. I love Uncharted, but I'm glad this can stand out in its own way. I'm glad this is slightly more open that I was expecting too. It looks open level which seems great. Looks like something that would come out last gen, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I like these more linear narrative driven games.

The fact this transitions so much into third person when he's doing stuff like climbing just says this game should be in third person the whole time.

I get the feeling the only reason it's mostly in first person is to avoid Uncharted comparisons.
They could have either went with a RE4 camera or stuck to 1st person all the way (the platforming is not exactly crazy here, I'm watching an Arkham Shadow playthrough and the platforming sequences are all in VR and never give me queasiness at all).

Such a strange choice..

First person perspective is lot exclusive to shooters (FPS)
I never said it was, and I never said the game is either, I made a joke in response to Clarky which is why there was an lol at the end, whatever your salty about, get on with it, im not bothered.

Thats what I figured. I personally hate this 3rd person or bust mentality. I don't think I have ever seen the same kind of dogmatic approach from people who prefer first person.
