I thought what it could be and understood that even GTA6 is already annouced. Nothing can blew peoples mind exept for Half Life 3 or a new Naughty Dog game. So probably this is the two.

Half Life brought narrative storytelling to fps. Half Life 2 brought physics, and shaders, Half Life Alyx showed the industry how to make an VR game is not about how strong the IP is, but design and gameplay innovations I think.

Half Life 2 is one of my favorite videogames ever made. Definitely my favourite shooter, and game in first person perspective. The Orange Box might be the best compilation of games ever released, I LOVED Portal and Episodes 1 & 2.

But it's been 15 years.

I can't care anymore, since Valve themselves haven't cared for the past 15 years. Not finishing Episode 3 felt disrespectful to the fans that came to love that series. Them going to Half Life 3 should normally feel even worse, but it's been 15 years. It doesn't feel like anything.

It is kind of sad seeing all the "mind blowing" reactions here, because there's a strong sense of arrested development to this whole thread. I'm not saying people shouldn't be excited, god forbid. You do you. But if you actually believe this news would "blow the internet" - that's what I actually find sad. Because it's been 15 years. The world has moved on. But you clearly haven't.

Sadly, I feel that you are correct. It won't hit the same. This new generation casuals doesn't even know what Half Life is. We do but I think that we forget that we (hardcore gamers) are just a small portion.

I guess it depends on what HL3 is.

If it's the same as 2 but with better graphics then that's not going get people on their feet.

HL3 needs to bring something different to the table, very much like the revolutionary physics seen in HL2. Something like full scale realistic destruction or extremely advanced AI. Something that makes people go "wow" on top of the pretty graphics.
