People are saying the new Nvidia app is causing performance issues

Saw a YouTuber showing latest drivers causing frame time issues in Indiana Jones. Rolling back to old drivers brings back performance.

Did the test myself. Got the exact same performance with or without the app. The overlay, however, tanked my performance by 10-12%.

was it the overlay or shadow play? shadow play would make sense as it constantly records your gameplay, which obviously has a performance cost.

the overlay itself should have only a miniscule effect on performance

I just tested and got notably more stuttering and frame pacing seemed off with overlay present. This wasn't the case before the latest updates.

Just the overlay. I was able to consistently reproduce it. Worse frame times and much worse performance.

mhh, ok, yeah they definitely have to look into that then.

I use the overlay as it's a decent way to dial in settings as it's easy and quick to turn on the FPS and hardware usage overlay

I just use the one that comes with Afterburner but it takes couple min to setup. Still very quick.

I have the app installed. I often use the overlay and recording functionality and haven't experienced any issues.

It's important to note that those who got huge gains when uninstalling the NVIDIA App were using Windows 11. Everything seems fine with Windows 10. Yes, there is a small performance hit with NVIDIA App, but it's nowhere close to what people have been reporting.

I was wondering what was going on. Performance would be shit and then go back to normal out of nowhere. Sometimes when I unplugged my controller and plug it back in weirdly enough.

Only reason I ever had gfe installed was for the remote play option but they removed that some time ago. Replaced it with sunshine/moonlight, uninstalled gfe and just use base drivers now.

Glad I dodged this bullet.

This sucks. I quite like their software and overlay. RTX HDR and the other filters, Ansel for photos, FPS counter, screen recording, auto OC and so on . Definitely won't sacrifice muh frames though. Hope they can optimize it but it's getting uninstalled for now. I think the stand alone RTX HDR mod still works.

I was getting this with Indiana Jones but I figured out a fix with the current nvidia drivers. Lower your overall graphics quality to low, wait a few seconds in the menu, then bump it back up. :pie_roffles: It's been reliable so far. You'll have to do it again when relaunching the game.

Tldr: it's the overlay nested within the app that's causing the issues, not the app itself.

Turn the overlay off within the app for now.

However if you want to make sure, just uninstall the app.

Ah ok. So it's a 3 to 5% performance hit. So what's happening to me with Indiana Jones dropping to 9fps is probably something with the game itself.

The hit in BMW for me is about 10-12% with the overlay.
