Circana - In US Indiana Jones ranked 2nd in dollar sales for w/e Dec 14th (behind only COD); Astro Bot went from #11 the week prior to #7 for the week

Then and even now.......the data doesn't tell us much. Why not at least give us the game's "monthly" ranking so far......instead of a "weekly ranking"?
He probably just finished compiling that week's data, so shared a couple of things he found interesting.

I don't know why having more information is a bad thing now. I hope that Mat makes this every week.

It's not a bad thing. I just wish he did it more often, with more games. And not just the games he personally likes to play.

When I first changed my avatar to Phil I think a few of them momentarily forgot who I was.

He's bringing similar energy to Jason Scheier's 'own the chuds' with Dragon Age The Veilguard sales (which didn't materialize) tweets

More players than Astrobot already, impressive.
Not necessarily for "players" considering its on a service with over 25+ million people, but more "payers" is impressive considering Xbox games rarely outsell ps

I actually expect player count to be double the sales tbh.

x1
Big sales, mid sales, i just want the game to be successful enough for a sequel.

Not often we get a game where we can be an iconic character like this, and the game is actually good too.

In fact i hope it spawns more movie based games based on orig storylines.

The hope is that the long-since announced but as-of-yet-revealed James Bond game will be this same quality too.

Probably, but that's not what this says at all.

This is dollars, not players, and just for a single week, not over all. Astro Bot reached number 2 in sales in its launch week as well. No way to really compare the two directly at this point.

Can you tell me where you got that info? Considering Mat is only talking about this particular week for both games and not YTD or overall. Really curious where you got that conclusion from.

It's easy on Christmas Eve.

Weekly sales data, where no other notable game was released in that week, is quite useless.

Monthly sales chart data and, more importantly, YTD sales chart data will show a much clearer picture.

Given the Steam concurrent numbers I don't think they've had 1.5 Million players, let alone PAYERS, at all.

This is just one specific week.
I think 1.5 million players is reasonable, but as we all know that's a vanity metric at best. Hi-Fi Rush hit 3 million players (double this), and look at what happened to the IP and the studio.

As for payers / buyers, yeah, I agree, 1.5 million is reaching a lot, considering these are the sales estimates on Steam (where the game would have sold the most).

RE: The question of players, I think it's a *very* safe bet it's reached more than 1.5m players already.

Just on console, 3rd only to CoD and Fortnite per reporting dated last week.

Why does it matter if Indy had more "players" than Astro Bot had sales?

I hope it´ll do well. It wasn´t for me personally but i found it to be of very high quality and i understand if people love it (y)

- I don't care how it's doing relative to Astro Bot, didn't make that comparisons in my post.
- The player count was brought up by multiple users and Mat's tweet / blueskeet is the most relevant thing on that subject I can find.
- It's on a subscription service so player engagement is kinda relevant to the games success as well.

The 1.5 million number in this thread is referring to Astro Bot sales. You may not have realized it, but otherwise it is just an incredibly arbitrary number.

Do not disagree with your other points.

Xbox Most Played Games list updated. Down three spots from last week, but still in the top 10. Piscatella's Xbox rankings seem off a bit.

I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer on this.

Astros playroom, given out free with every ps5 just like Indy has with Gamepass, certainly has had more players.

That's a different title again, I'm not arguing Astrobot isn't a great game. It just seems to have a poor attachment rate with PS5 owners, showing how multiplat and Gaas these machines really are now.

I'm with other posters in this thread drop Indi on PS5 now, keep up the momentum so we can get a sequel.

AstroBot keeps selling throughout the holidays. A few million sold at this point. Given its budget, that's a great result. I don't think anyone should have expected a huge attach rate, it's not Spider-Man

I'm probably going to buy Indy day one on ps5, but it'll be interesting to see how it is judged. The critical reception is good, but sales are unknown. Can't really be judged fully until it drops on ps5.

I heard a sequel was already greenlit? So I think all parties believe it was a success, maybe because they have long term expectations of it growing from here on out due to good reviews and word of mouth moreso than sales

They chose a good month for sales, December was relatively quiet for releases, so the game's sales should be relatively good. Although of course the majority will play through Gamepass anyway due to the difference in the cost of the game, which is very critical for some countries since games for $70 are far from the most comfortable price for many regions on our planet.

Late ports are always mid on sales unfortunately, I don't expect it to explode on PS5 sales charts if they're going with spring 2025, the hype is already slowing down.

Makes me sad because the game is truly phenomenal.

Feels like a proper Indiana Jones movie, a great one even, right up there with the best old ones. There is a slight dose of jank but not game-breaking and the AI is dumb but that's the only negative things I can bring up. The map layout is imo at the top 10 all time, absolute top class, with lots of exploration and verticality. And it's just a total joy to play. I hope the jury don't forget about it for TGA 2025, it was thrown under the bus by that November cutoff date. Already was my GOTY early on but has just got better the further I come. Still playing it, 32 hours so far.

Depends on the region I suppose? No matter what, it seems to be doing great.

If he doesn't usually do it, then why is he doing this?

At whose request?

I see that now, not sure how I missed that. Lol.

This is kind of strange. NGL.

Maybe people are tweeting him, and he is seeing comments about how poor it has supposedly sold on steam due to player counts so he decided to set the record straight that it is actually selling pretty well for a game that launched day one on GamePass.

I hope it does well but judging by Mat's response about this not being units and dollars only and the use of weekly results mixed with the steam CCU I suspect it had a pretty bumper week selling $100, gamepass DLC editions for that early access and faded.

It does seem he is pretty defensive of about it all though, maybe Mattyp is secretly Piscatella all along.

I thought about getting a retail copy, but 80€ is too much and besides XSX is very likely the last disc drive model from Microsoft. Stalker 2 got my money instead, the price was very reasonable (around 60€) and I wanted to support the studio. Plus I know I would still be playing after my Game Pass sub has ended.

NPD has been doing dollar sales for games for a while now. It's a bit shit, I prefer units.
