Help me decide between some Sony games

There's a bunch of Sony games I've held off playing due to backlog reasons or because of fear they would be overly cinematic/boring, which is a big trend with their studios.
Also there is fanboy bias because some people get tribal about their preferred game company.

I'm trying to figure out which of the following games is actually worth my time, and can't seem to get a good sense from reviews I read online.
Some background:
- I liked Horizon 1
- God of War 1 I was quite mixed on, bad enemy variety, too many walking sections, painful slog at times
- Spiderman 1 I liked the swinging and combat was decent, but everything else was a bit bland
- Generally fond of the Ratchet games

So for people who've played most or all of the games below, which ones do you recommend that are more video-gamey and less "cinematic" or walking section BS, which are the stinkers to avoid also:
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Spiderman 2
- Ratchet: Rift Apart
- God of War Ragnarok
- Horizon Forbidden West

Thanks!

The only one I can honestly suggest is Ghost of Tsushima. It offers a more rewarding sword play and comes with differents approachs to deal in combat, either by melee, stealth or bow combat.
It can be boring though, because it drags too much.

I highly suggest avoiding any other Sony title in your list.

You know exactly what to expect from Spiderman, God of War and Horizon. Horizon at least has the biggest of the visual upgrades.

That just leaves Ghost and Ratchet. Both are about equal parts light, polished and casual gameplay meets cinematic presentation. Both are about equally gamey, but nothing is rough around the edges or pushing back on the player hard.

Ratchet is good for a few days, so if you can blast through that and its cheap I would say its worth it.

Returnal is their best game this gen imo.

Ghost is good but its a nice slow burn and I felt it got boring through the mid to end section of the game. Still enjoyed it overall though.

Can't really go wrong with any of them

Ratchet and Clank and Ghost of Tsushima would be new to you so I'm not sure if you would like them or not but they're great games. If you're fond of the Ratchet games then I would recommend it.

Spiderman 2 and GoW ragnarok are good too and more of the same. Ragnarok enemy variety is better than the first but still has those sections you're not fond of. The old Niflheim maze area has been turned into a standalone beefier experience too in Valhalla which is just encounter after encounter and levelling up.
Horizon Forbidden west is better than the first in terms of encounters but not as good as the first in terms of story. Spiderman 2 is just spiderman with more moves now.

Based purely on what you've said regarding your preferences I would probably recommend Ratchet and Clank.

In terms of gameplay, all the five games are stellar and engaging. But the fact is that all listed less R&C here will have excessive "cinematic" sessions. You probably shouldn't have passed them due to this.

Speaking of R&C, it does not have the issue as being a platformer shooter, but it's rather short and offers no replay values.

The only one I bothered to finish was Rift Apart and even then it paled in comparison to Psychonauts 2 which I played around the same time. Spider-Man 2 is worse than Sp1. Ragnarok is worse than 2018. HFW is worse than HFD. A lot of folks love GoT here so probably that (I wasn't a particularly big fan and i love samurai films and open world games). Astrobot is lot better than any of these.

Honestly you're not going to be disappointed with most of Sonys games tbh. Sure, there might be a couple of sections which are tedious but they all have high production values and are made to high standards. What you get out of them depends on how you play them, you can square, square, triangle your way through if you really want but they are all rewarding if you engage fully with all the mechanics. Anyway of that list

- Ghost of Tsushima
Recommend. The side quests drag on (there are only a small number but they are long and phased).

- Spiderman 2
Would not recommend based on what you said. The game over stays it's welcome, the side stuff is pretty preachy. If you didn't like messing with gadgets in 1, you'll likely find 2 frustrating.

- Ratchet: Rift Apart
Haven't played yet so dunno

- God of War Ragnarok
Recommend. This one might be suck it and see though. I was a bit meh after my first playthrough but after the second I loved it. There are a couple of stretched out tedious parts in the game and some of the side stuff (e.g. draugrs, valkyrie and beserkers) can put you off. I'd suggest sticking with it if you do start it.

- Horizon Forbidden West
Recommend. You liked Horizon 1, but this is slightly tougher and a lot more going on with statuses and equipment. Still worth a play through.

From that list, I'd start with GoT, then try Forbidden West. That's about 150hrs of gaming on its own

Forever baffling that to this day you still can't skip any dialogue or cutscenes in Tsushima

And people think the walk n talk in Sony games is shit. Tsushima is already a slog narrativey and you have no choice but to tolerate it.

If you were "meh" on God of War and Spiderman then definitely skip the sequels. Ghost of Tsushima is a great game, imo, but if you don't like AC format then you probably won't like it. Ratch Rift Apart is a great Ratchet game. I really enjoyed Horizon Forbidden West so I'll recommend it since you liked the first. I don't see Astro Bot on your list, but it should be if you haven't played it.

Ghost of Tushima from your list.
Days Gone.
ASTRO BOT --- - goty for platformer, its like mario supercharged with old school playstation nostalgia
Anything else newer than those three will be loaded dei for "modern audiences."

Stellar blade (Sony 3rd party exclusive) is more gamey. Same with Rise of Ronin.
Although I would recommend Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Silent hill 2re, Dead Space re, Dragons Dogma 2, Resident evil 2 and 4 remakes, Robocop, Baldurs Gate 3, over any of those games (Ghost of tushima and days gone excluded as they are great).

Ratchet i am not sure about, same studio is infected ala spiderman 2. I haven't played it, so can't comment. Last ratchet i played was tools of destruction and crack in time (amazing game).

If you liked Horizon I, I’d say give Horizon FW a shot. Story is considered worse by most, but alot of things are an improvement over the first. Visuals greatly improved, verticality is massively expanded with underwater and air sections. More thought was put into the side quests I felt. More machine variety. You may like it if you enjoyed the first. Burning Shores is a pretty good expansion as well.

Can’t Git Gud
Ragnarok is shite
Horizon 2 is mega shite (boring. just boring)
Rift Apart is fun little shooter but gay
Spdierman 2 I've not played but looks boring and gay
Ghost of tsushima is probably great.

Death Stranding
Forspoken
Wukong
Returnal
Stellar Blade
Armored Core 6
Astro Bot
REsi 4 remake
Dragons fucking Dogma 2.

There are so many better games than the ones you've listed.
You will probably like horizon 2... but I found it ultra average and gay.

Based on what you have played...

Ghost of Tsushima
Ratchet and Clack
You should play Spider-Man 1 and Miles before 2.

I go that route because you played GOW and Horizon ZD and you are not absolutely sure which one you want to play next so why not wait.

These Last Guardian posts reminded me to pick up a disc copy of the game now that I have a drive on my Pro. If I remember correctly, I do not want to patch the game, correct?

From your list, of course its Ghost of Tsushima. But may I suggest Silent hill 2 remake, Stellar blade, and Astrobot. Those games are beautiful graphics and excellent gameplay. Death Stranding 1, I also recommend this game, it has a good world building concept and exploration and mystery.

Do you have a PS5 Pro?

If so, get Horizon FW (fuck the haters), especially if you enjoyed Zero Dawn.

It's looks absolutely amazing on the Pro. One of the best looking games this generation. The IQ is unreal.

The story isn't as good, but everything else is better.

HFW is a good choice if you liked the first. Modern day stuff was far more interesting though I didn't like the combat as much.
R&C RA surprised my just how fun it was to play through.
GoT would be my top pick from your list. Looks gorgeous with some really fun gameplay.

Also worth checking out is Days Gone and maybe giving Returnal a chance if those are an option.
