This is not great at all. I expected 50k+ launch day EASILY. This is a disaster.

Is it? Avowed peaked at under 20k and still managed to make it into the top 8 best sellers in the US for February. And that's a game that isn't on PlayStation yet.

This thread has so much bullshit, I cant believe some of you actually think before you type. The hate people spew outwards onto anything and everything these days is baffling, you'd be better off looking inward than coming on a forum to shit on something you pretend not to care about in the first place. I dont know why you you see a thread about a game you claim to not be interested in, and then think 'I know what, i'm gonna enter that thread and post shit just cos I literally have nothing else going on my life' as though your opinions are somehow important. Who cares if you hate Ubisoft or Asscreed or whatever the fuck, why cant you just scroll past instead of fucking up every thread on the site with hate and negative shit that nobody cares about.

I'll say it'll do ok, won't flop but also won't be a big success.
This was my guess as well. It likely won't catch the "gamer zeitgeist", but that doesn't matter so long as normal folks who play a few games a year buy it,

Guess we will find out.

(Ubi needs a smash hit to right their own ship…I don't think they get there with this).

Shut up. Context doesn't apply in culture wars.
context or moving the goalpost? as one of the OGs that have played AC2 since the day of xbox 360, I still remember people were hype about AC Japan ever since we saw the torii gate symbol in AC3, so 13 years

Steam numbers are a good reference point but some folks put way too much stock into them on GAF, I've noticed over time.

It's just one of a potential 5, 6 ways the game can be bought/played at the moment.

Charting #8 doesn't mean it sold well. It wasn't even mentioned in the Circana report.

It's more than one thing tho.

- Avowed's primary audience was mostly playing it on GP, that doesn't get tracked.
- Steam CCU for Pirate Yakuza reached higher peaks, *and* it was available on the PS5 too, but it still ended up selling less overall in the month than the Xbox/PC only Avowed.
- That shows that despite just Steam numbers *and* primarily being available on GP, it still ended up selling decent amount of unit sales that it ended up in the top 10 of the month.

Seems alright to me 🤷‍♂️

I can see why Carrie would say they were happy with the numbers.

Yep. CCU is only one piece of the puzzle. Wasn't that long ago that we (including myself in "we") were chiding Veilguard for not making it above 90k on the steam charts. Now......90k is looking pretty good. But we also know that Veilguard didn't do the numbers EA wanted. So how in the world do we gauge how well a game is performing based solely on CCU? I don't think we can.

Charting #8 doesn't mean it sold well. It wasn't even mentioned in the Circana report.

That's true. Rankings are relative. The point in posting that was to try and create a baseline for comparison. Shadows hasn't peaked yet and probably won't until this weekend. I don't think we can call it either a success or a flop at this point. Just that it seems to be doing better than Avowed.

I respect your optimism but I think it's misplaced. Avowed and Yakuza weren't a blip on the radar in February, which is why they weren't mentioned.

Well, yeah. MH Wilds and KCD2 were the breakout hits, I can see why more focus was on them instead of number 5 through 10.

Apparantly a lot of people care about it.

Peak passed at 41.4k or roughly 59 concords it seems, this ain't doing better than veilguard in terms of CCU

2 million is good, but it's not breakout hit for a multiplatform
I doubt Ubisoft would be anywhere close to break even for this with just 2million. Probably somewhere in the region of 3-5million needed at a guess.

Looks very high budget + long delayed development + big marketing budget + Western dev costs + Multiplatform.

A recipe for high expense.

Starfield was one of the biggest hyped games in recent years. From the creators of Skyrim?
...and Fallout 76?

But yes, Starfield had enormous hype.

But do you seriously think ACS has smaller budget than Starfield? I would say they are on par, and from the numbers it is obvious which one will be more financially successful. Even if Starfield actually kinda sucked too as a game.

It will probably hit a new peak tonight or over the weekend, but since it already seems to have plateaued for the time being, I find it interesting to compare it to these games.
AC Odyssey was the last Assassin's Creed before Shadows that came out day one on Steam.
Ghost of Tsushima is another samurai game with a similar formula to Assassin's Creed, which was ported to PC four years after its console release.
Veilguard was one of the most recent AAA commercial failures.

I'm not sure if it's a legit thing, but there is a video online with AC Shadows end credits that are... 2 hours long. There are also 13 studios listed as co-developers on the game's Steam page. It's safe to assume that budget of this game wasn't small

Played a couple hours last night and I seemed to be having a good time, will be looking forward to playing some more when I get home. The game looks pretty good when you have most of the graphic settings cranked up, 4K and all the raytracing stuff enabled (on PC). I had a few cases of stutters here and there but nothing egregious. I think it was mostly during cutscenes but gameplay was generally unmolested and around 60fps with occasional drops into the 50's with fps now and then. 3080TI.

Was a last minute purchase for me after heavy mental gymnastics on if I purchase or not. I was at first a little reserved about the game focusing on a black protagonist and a little girl in Fuedal Japan when there was plenty of opportunity to have a Ninja Gaiden like bro to play as but the more I thought about it, it's kind of a unintentional comedy that Ubisoft would let us play as a black man and go around murdering and sacking Japan. Maybe this is untrue or I heard wrong but I thought Japan was traditionally a bit racist and Ubisoft explicitly picking this character of all people is kind of a slap to Japanese no?

Because like you said, they are pathetic losers who need to spread hate in order to feel seen.

Found the publisher employee who wants SteamDB to be banned.

Did a quick research, Ubi's exclusive deal with Epic started 2019 with The Division 2. So Odyssey was a day one launch on Steam, and that explains why it has the highest CCU in the franchise.
Ah that's right, I was misremembering. It was that the Steam versions all were barebones releases (no Steam achievements, required Ubisoft Connect launcher, etc.) then yeah Valhalla wasn't put there at all at first.
