Bam Margera, after suffering a spate of legal and health issues over the course of the last several years, had been omitted from the trailer, fuelling speculation that he’d been cut from the remakes altogether.

This was apparently the case until Tony Hawk himself intervened, demanding that Margera be reinstated as a playable skater in the game.

This prompted a last minute change of plans which saw Activision fly the former Jackass and Viva La Bam star to their studio for a full body scan to have him added to the game. This news comes via skating podcast The Nine Club where host Roger Bagley detailed the back-and-forth between Hawk and Activision which ultimately led to the change.

“The game was already done,” explained Bagley. “Tony called up Activision and was like ‘hey, we’re putting Bam in the thing’, and they were like ‘hey, we can’t’. Ultimately, Hawk put his foot down and the rest is, seemingly, history. Obviously, there’s no official word out of Activision as yet, so take this with a grain of salt.

Well there you have it. Even though we won't be getting the open world Career for THPS4 (which sucks ass and cements me waiting for a sale), we will be getting Bam Margera.

he's Tony Hawk. sure there are contracts and shit but they are making money off his name. They might want to make future games. Maybe we'll get Underground Remakes after 3+4. I doubt this is big enough of an issue to cause any problems but what I'm trying to say is I'm sure Tony has a fair say in the games and Activision will want to keep him happy.

I just don't think he "put his foot down" as per the article's suggestion. I think he probably more likely "diplomatically asked if it was possible." That's no shade on anyone, it's nice that he spoke up for a friend (and doubtlessly secured him some royalty fees that he'd have missed out on), but I'm not sure that outside the agreed and signed contracts (and shit) that this isn't just diplomacy rather than him having weight to throw around. What's he going to do if Bam's excluded and sales go well, so they want to make another game? Refuse? Unlikely - I imagine there's little to no chance that he can use his own name to make a game with someone else, that'll have been signed away as part of a competing product clause.

I had to look up Bam's 2025 photos, and that was my first though exactly. He looks like shit for being 45, close to 60 is more like it.

Don't get me wrong. I don't take issue with Tony Hawk standing up for Bam's inclusion as a thing in and of itself. Good on Tony for looking out for his old friend if they were boys once upon a time. I don't recall if Bam was in the game, so if he was, good on Tony for wanting to honor that.

I took issue with the other user's bleeding heart sentiment about nobody being a saint. With money and privilege, people should be held just as accountable, if not more so. No one is perfect, but the rest of us nobodies who actually keep the world moving have to be accountable and keep it together with no wealth and privilege. I don't feel sorry for rich people who are the architects of their own demise. I watch a lot of sports and I lump pro athletes into that as well. I just can't feel sorry for the beautiful people and their manufactured problems. I'll stop ranting about it now lol.
