Assassin's Creed Shadows 💮|OT|💮 Play Stealthy for Me |づ ╸ . •́ )メ

lol I got yaya as summon companion
she's so stronk and power
but first nitpick is coming. these castles are too repetitive. there's 5 or 6 of them in this initial region. and there are a lot more regions beyond this. so I'm a bit overwhelmed
also Kabukimono. this is horrible. I spoke to a NPC, he mentioned what they're about. and suddenly objective board shows clues about 5 of them. it ruins the immersion immensely

Am surprise expert mode is actually hard. Naoe really cant fight more than 3 dudes at once. Have to be a real shinobi and fight dirty throwing kunais and smoke bombs. Honor gets you dead faster than Ned Stark. And stealth is challenging now light and shadow plays a big part and enemies can look up and see Naoe ninja ass trying to be sneaky.

see rofif rofif u get triggered ocd with pc graphics settings or when too many graphics options on console games
i get triggered ocd with placements of buildings in this hideout modification menu
we're not the same !

Damn. The "Twisted Tree" quest line was wild. I tried to assassinate one target, and turned out two others were in the same vicinity. Bless up on the ball and chain AoE weapon for Naoe.

Finally.

13~ hours and yasuke and naoe finally meet.

I've also encountered some things in the world that only Yasuke can do, so I guess the switch point is coming.

Although it's fucking weird that Naoe can't lift up an oil jar.

I wondered why the twitch drop armour had the assassin logo for a belt, well I just got the actual in-game version of it is actually called "initiate assassin gear" along with the hood, and you get them from the assassin paths:

Wonder what the master gear is gonna look like 🤔

The combat here is really taking a while to sync with me. Not sure I dig this color coded QTE stuff.
I'm ok with the combat right now, I never cared for the whole "its red" thus can't parry type thing lol I feel i never notice in time and would prefer another type of cue

For sword combat I'd rank as follows

Sekiro
Onimusha
Ghost Of Tsushima
Shadows

for gameplay in general

Shadows
Sekiro
Ghost Of Tsushima
Onimusha

The thing that's throwing me is that it changes it up. One enemy seems to have one red attack and another will have three.

I don't think Yasuke likes a white guy like me pushing his buttons.

I knew it

Yeah, I think you might have been at the same cave/place where you clearly have to throw the oil jar to explode the wall but Naoe can't lift it up lol, I had to resort to google to see how to get across and apparently those kind of places are Yasuke only.

I was also a bit stuck in one of the Kofun's with a collapsed wall at the exit and had to throw a kunai at the oil jar to explode it.

I know exactly what your talking about. Shit had me laughing. Gave me a Shadow of Mordor moment for a minute lol

Approached a "naoe" marked quest as yasuke and it actually triggered and changed the dialogue a bit, that was pretty cool.

The way dirt ever so slightly deforms when you walk on it, and that deformation becoming stronger when it's wet, is the kind of detail that's borderline psychotic lol, most people will never see it.

We assassin's creed now forreal 👀

Really blindsided by this game. I was expecting to not even like it and it feels like it could become one of my favorite games ever.

It also represents to me the importance of having good defaults, which this game doesn't really have. Watching videos/streams of other people playing I feel like I am having significantly better experience than most other people just having gotten lucky/experimenting in a lot of my settings. From someone who absolutely loves the game here is what I recommend:

- Minimalistic customized HUD (I detail this in a previous post, NOT one of existing presets unfortunately)
- Immersive voice acting mode (the English dub is actually terrible)
- Guaranteed assassination - focus on stealth and charting a path to your target, you don't have to loot everything or kill everyone in a castle. You are a shinobi-assassin with an objective. I just take out the Daisho, and get the legendary chest/synchronization point. I never end up staying in a location too long to grow tired of it.
- Expert difficulty
- Never fast travel; this way you complete the side quests like killing bandits, finding items, etc. organically and in a balanced way instead of having to grind them all at once. I simply go wherever I am interested in for a quest and visit anything on the map that is in my path.
- Turn chromatic aberration off. If you play at >= 60fps turn off motion blur.

Love the weapon customization A LOT👍:messenger_grinning:

It's not your typical transmog system when you just choose a different skin with different colors and such, no, it's much better. You can change the handle and design of it, you can change the base of the blade and design of it too and then change the blade and its design as well, same goes for other weapons Naoe uses (probably same goes for Yasuke as well). And of course you can make it so that it would fit visually with the set of armor you're wearing.

I made myself a katana (and tanto) with black and gold motifs to fit with the armor set I'm wearing and then chose a dark red wood design for the saya. Man, it's fuckin' great:messenger_horns::messenger_sunglasses:

I did not even know you could do that, and i have logged about 20 hours in the game so far.

Gotta figure out if stats on a weapon only benefit said weapon or my overall stats. Didn't really spend a single second looking at the general picture there. Otherwise why would I fight with my tanto over my katana as Naoe?

Quite pleased with this game so far. It has very cool mechanics I hope get even more depth in the future. Especially implementing the benefits and downsides of the season and the mechanics to sneak even better like darkness (hopefully camouflage becomes a thing in the future, too. Like white clothing during winter).

Have only been running around in the first open area you get to explore as Naoe, so I should actually do at least a part of the main quests so I can progress further with upgrades and such. It gets challenging on expert without having any real tools and moves.

Alright, put in a little bit of time with Yasuke now and I definitely have a preference of the two.

- The game *feels* like it was made around Naoe with Yasuke being an "easy mode" for tough mandatory encounter segments where Naoe's stealth is not as useful.
- Naoe gets all the classic stealth tools, proper assassinations etc and feels more akin to playing an Assassin's Creed character.
-Yasuke, comparatively, is a brawler, his primary thing is head-on physical combat, which might be good for players looking to do that, but not as good for the more stealth oriented approaches.

The one thing that's catching me surprisingly off-guard is just how much story there is, definitely way more cut-scenes than any previous AC games.

I'm not that good with Photo Modes in general so I just take pictures of land-scapes and golden hour lighting areas that look aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.

The draw distances are fuckin' incredible.

And way better directed cutscenes than what we usually get in other games, even for sidequests.

The cutscene direction in Odyssey was mediocre for instance.

I'm having some issues with the game randomly not letting me change equipment in scenarios. I either have to go somewhere else or do some horse riding until the game then lets me change equipment.

What is the bloat like in this game? Is it similar to Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla? Those games were too big and a slog to play (the grind was terrible). I know its a big game, but is it more condensed than those two? I want to grab it when it is on sale, but I am not going to waste my time if it is the standard Ubi open world from the last 5-6 years. The last Ubi open world game I truly enjoyed was Immortals, which was a much more focused open world (still trying to get through Outlaws).

its obvious some people here did not play odyssey and valhalla

this game is like 100x better than those games in almost all aspects

those games... I played them to completion but it was so arcade, and so generic

this game tries something with cutscenes at least

Did ya'll enable canon and immersive mode?

I went with Japanese voices anyway, so what's the difference with that and enabling/disabling immersive mode?

With the immersive mode turned on, you'll get Portuguese VA as well as Japanese VA just like it was meant to be played cuz it's accurate to time period - 16th century.

Ah yes, and otherwise the Portuguese would be Japanese?

And canon mode is how Ubi devs intended it to be? I do want my own choices though, so I'm going with off.

Yeah I might try to make a comparison vid myself but it would be some work with my current setup

Keep in mind that this feature only unlocks after you recruit the blacksmith and build the forge in your hideout.

It's one of the first missions you get but it feels like a super unimportant sidequest so it's easily missable.

When do you unlock this? I can only change the whole look of the weapon, IIRC

Yasuke with the 2h hammer and with those abilities... my god its a fucking terminator. So much fun to play, you feel like a badass.

Also this fucking quest board just keeps expanding with circles :D

Got Yasuke after 20 hours and omg this guy is fucking amazing. Not only was his intro badass but his combat is fucking awesome. the guy hits like a tank. He runs through doors. Literally lifts people while assassinating them with his sword. Kicks them like a mile away sending them to the shadow realm. His Adrenaline abilities recharge in seconds. He's like Abby in that they gave him all the best moves because they knew there would be a backlash but i dont care, he's so much more likeable than that cunt Abby.

No offense to GoT. I love that game, but this is what I wanted from a samurai. Just a walking killing machine. Badass, Awesome, Cool, and just a cold calm terminator.

This game quickly went from a 7 to an 8 just with his introduction. What a fantastic way to spice things up after 20 hours. Also poor Manabyte, i got the Act 1 trophy pop up as soon as he finally becomes playable so he was right about something for once in his life, and got perma'd for it. lmao.

Honestly my favorite part of the game. gives me brotherhood vibes. Its been so long since we had a game focused on assassinations.

Last night i assassinated a guy in Kyoto (gorgeous city btw) and immediately after 3 of his kids showed up at his residence forcing me to take them on almost immediately with no rations. Thankfully Fat Abby was not a cool down and fully upgrade so she spartan kicked the shit out of one of them while i took out the rest of his kids ending that lineage of samurai once in for all. Just awesome stuff.

Remember the guy yesterday that presumably got his "friend account" to play the game (more like he watched a playthrough in youtube) saying that Yasuke has the worst character control in a videogame? Lol

As soon as I started the game the other day and controlled him, it felt great and tight. And the combat with him was really good

The hate towards this game is starting to be a joke and stupid if you ask me

Is this part of the story or what? :messenger_open_mouth:

I'm noticing some clear black level raise in HDR though, it isn't nearly as bad as some other games but the temple bit with Naoe in prologue just doesn't look great, that area should look inky black, and I bet it does in SDR, sigh. Noticing the same outside during night.

Changing exposure doesn't do anything here either.

Idk if you even need to unlock this, I just go to customize and all of the options are there, you can do this in open world while exploring, no need to go to Blackstmith.

I wish we could customize different pieces of armor and headgear as well.

Wait did you actually kill all of them? Because two of them can be spared, you find letters around the city detailing the story and you can find those two and either kill or spare them; if you never run into them you automatically spare them as shown on the objectives board.

It's so weird to pick up quest items for quests you haven't actually started yet, especially when Naoe comments on it and you're "wtf are you talking about".

Also the objective board is unhinged. It's an absolute mess to keep track of things and very unintuitive to use. It just keeps expanding and adding new circles, and you're just supposed to keep track of how you got all those quests and what the connections are and the backstory is. There is no summarize function for anything so at some point you're just so overwhelmed and lose interest in the story of any of the side quests especially.

yep it really takes out of the experience :(

I tried SDR and jesus, there is even black level raise in there.

I guess I'm going to have to accept this or lower TV black level setting. I don't get this though. Because in some cutscenes it's fine and then during gameplay it's not.
