Can we realistically annex Canada?

I've started this thread in order to discuss realistic possibilities for the United States to annex Canada, or any Canadian provinces at all.

The earliest I can think of is during the Revolution. Have the invasion of Quebec be successful and you could see some Canadian territory taken by the United States. However, how realistic is this? The expedition didn't make an attempt on Quebec City until late December, and the U.S. volunteers service times were about to run out. So, what does anyone have to say about this possibility?

There is always the war of 1812. Of course in order to get that you need to have the British completely ignore the Americas in exchange for trying to gain more control in continental Europe.

I will admit, being American, I don't know much Canadian history (which I am trying to rectify). I heard of the rebellions of 1837-38 in Canada by those who wanted reform and or preferred a Republican style government. This I don't know much about. Could this rebellion have grown large enough to the point where they gain independence from Britain and then join the U.S.?

I'm sure there are more that I am not aware of. So let's have at it.

Plus, we as the US need to claim the great golden resource that is John Marston John Marston

No. Don't believe the rhetoric.

Beware this thread going deep into politics, but things aren't as bad as the media makes it look.

The bigger issue for Americans would be the Commonwealth recruiting it's billions of 3rd world men to go and fight against the US with the full knowledge that they'd all just flood into America and vanish becoming a drain from the inside rather than an opposing force.

We will get you all with our maple syrup!

But in all honesty, why would you want to invade Canada when we can just continue being best friends who share everything and go to bat for one another?

Seriously though, Canada s probably too big to properly hold by arms with out millions of soldiers.

All of Canada's major cities are on the border with the United States. If, suddenly, the major cities were no longer on the border, and instead became part of the middle of the unified country's interior, and Canadians had freedom of movement/work in the United States, then Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal would basically all crash economically and lose much of their skilled population to the major US cities.

Beyond that, we should consider how we get to a scenario where Canada capitulates its sovereignty. There isn't much hope of that without intentionally bankrupting Canada or annexing it by force. In either case, most Canadians would absolutely despise America.

We should aim to have a great relationship with Canada instead.

Europe fighting the US over Canada? That's not going to happen. The US would be sanctioned by the EU, whereas the UK wouldn't know what to do and experience a political brain freeze.

Its always the nice guy that turns into your worst enemy when provoked, and no one is nicer than Canadians. Beware. They punch each other in the face on solid ice with blades on their feet for fun.

In the next 50 to 100 years you will see some form of north America superpact like organisation similar to the EU.

You see a fictionalised version of this in the game series front mission. Specifically front mission 4.
I think so, too. NAFTA / USMCA was a small step in this direction.

A united north America would probably make economic sense in the near future.

The amount of fallout from the action would be unprecedented- it would set a precedent that has been massively frowned upon since WW2.

I’d bet any serious talk about legit action would be known by intelligence services and would drive some nuclear submarines and jets into Canadian territory for obvious reasons.

Depends whether it's through violence or words. Canada would surrender within a few hours if the US fire bombed Toronto and Vancouver
Just wait until.the end of hockey season. Vancouver is going to firebombed themselves over the Canucks season. I am surprised it didn't happen the other night, up 3-0 in thr first and lose 7-6 in a shoot out. Maybe they'll just set tochett in fire at the annual Canucks Witch Hunt...

Edited to also add the f'ing 5-0 loss to the Kraken. Canucks' goalie save percentage i think was .6 or .7 something...

The US should be focusing on themselves and addressing their own domestic discontent. Guess that's way harder to do than simply threatening a longstanding friendly and stable ally.

They can try but it will be a centuries long disaster. Why even entertain this is my question? It’s like kidnapping your quiet nice neighbor, happy with their life, who got along with everyone into your dysfuntional family, never to leave again. It’s stupid.

This thread is a Canada-ate of in before lock.

20 points to the op for the sincerity.

Award yourself 5 points if you are Canadian and participating.

10 points if you are an American hoping for some empire building.

Can you yes, should you, no. Any country that wins a war can force their will on the losers. That has been traditional annex of land method. Canadians and Americans are best when they work together. But Canada has a great benefit of defense through proximity. They should allow free trade and not silly tariffs on each others products.

The US can easily conquer Canada. It would also signal the permanent decline of the United States as the world becomes a more unstable and violent place.

Thankfully, anyone who believes in this 51st state nonsense is an incompetent coward.

It would add 40 million mostly democrat voters. It would need to be multiple states which would probably add 6 to 8 democrat senators and probably 80 democrat congress members. There might be a few that would go republican but they would be few and far between. The republicans would need move far left or be left powerless for a long time.

Anex Canada? What are you talking about? Do you have some kind of Hitler or Putin around there? This are the kind of people that like to anex other countries.

Open Google Earth satellite and have a real good close look at Canada.

That should answer any questions you have on America conquering Canada.

I recall this being considered 30 years ago when Quebec was talking about seceding from Canada.

If global warming is a real thing that actually thaws the arctic and suddenly A. the southern latitudes are largely inhospitable and B. the northern ones are actually survivable, than ONE HUNDRED PERCENT the US will take Canada to get access to all that territory, minerals, oil, and most importantly, access to the arctic sea and all the trade and resources therein.

It is ludicrous to think Canada could, in any capability, resist a US takeover.

Though I think in reality you would see the US breaking up with an East/West split and the south getting shed as weather and immigration make that area culturally incompatible. Parts of Canada would be included in such a division.

The United States that invades and annexes Canada would not be democratic or lawful so these considerations wouldn’t matter. We’d be looking at a US that’s more like Russia at that point.

Here's a couple reaction channels you can use to get links (in the description) to various videos about Canada. Watch their own commentary, or not.

I remember seeing that in a vid the other day, quite amusing.

Another thing the US would have to deal with is a the Québécois. They can be pissed enough about being in Canada, sounds reasonable they'd be even more so under the US.

Edit: There are the Heritage Minutes which give bite sized bits of Canadian history. The classic ones from the 90's would be engrained in the brains of any of us who grew up watching Canadian TV at that time.

Of course it can, Canada barely has a military and has a weak national identity. You can't really build a nation on hockey, maple syrup, and shitty health care, and we see that today.

The question is should it, and the answer is no.

The idea that NATO would intervene against the USA is HILARIOUS.

NATO is the US. Anyone who doesn't understand this isn't in the game. That's all it is and that is all it ever will be. NATO is the US' vehicle for maintaining hegemony over Europe. It's totally irrelevant without the US, as we see today with Europe's idiotic and empty rhetoric in response to Trump.

The bigger issue for Americans would be the Commonwealth recruiting it's billions of 3rd world men to go and fight against the US with the full knowledge that they'd all just flood into America and vanish becoming a drain from the inside rather than an opposing force.
This already happened to Canada though.

I think the U.S can but it will cause all kinds of mess with other countries like China immediately going after Taiwan, Nepal and Mangolia. Russia will invade all the Baltic countries. Pakistan will go after Kashmir probably causing a nuclear war with India. India themselves have issues with Nepal so you might see an IndiavChinavPakistan war there. Europe will go back into Africa and that will cause issues with China who have essentially bought half of the trade routes into several african countries.

All of this is retarded of course, but we live in retarded times. I fully expect Greenland to be annexed because the Americans incharge believe the rest of the world wont stop them, and while that might be true, it would also throw the world into chaos.

America can hardly keep goat herders in lock down..

You don’t want to hold a country that doesn’t want to be taken over. Unless you’re ready to kill us all..
